Spider-Man: Miles Morales is NOT an expansion to a PS5 remaster or a sequel; it's a standalone game like Uncharted: Lost Legacy

I'm surprised it's coming out this year, but Insomniac is known for being quite efficient at making their games.
Um. Remember the last Spider-Man game that took most of the lifecycle of the PS4 to come out?

But ya it's another Spider-Man game. Miles, not Peter. I don't get the speculation on length or anything. You have nothing viable to go off of

Insomniac has been around for a long long time, and judging them on the basis on one game seems disingenuous.

The first infamous took a long time too. Once they have a system to work from they move more quickly because it seems to be more about content and tweaks.

Wow, way to confuse the fuck out of everyone Sony :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You just revealed something that you yourselves didn't appear to even understand. Well that sounds a little bit better than a paid enhancement patch plus some DLC missions.

Nice! I was worried they would toss away our dude Peter.

And this opens some interesting possibilities. They could use the spin-offs to make games for other members of the Spider-Man family: Venon, Spider-Man 2099, Scarlet Spider Spider-Woman, etc...

Just think about it. One team is involved with Ratchet and Clank. That would mean the other team is involved in this Spiderman expansion. So if its a full blown stand alone game, that means there is no Spiderman 2 coming out for a very, very long time.

Good to know, I thought it was a DLC, but wondered why they didn't announce Spider man remake or enhanced version. Sony took a page from Nintendo's WiiU reveal on that one.

If they wanted to win this next console sales race in a dominant fashion they wouldn't have created the console they're about to put out.

They are the current market leader and let their arrogance get the best of them. That much is obvious.

The console is going to be expensive, the accessories are going to be expensive, and they are going to price gouge on software wherever they can at least out of the gate to try and make up what margin they have to eat on the over-engineered console.

In a perfect world they would have figured out a much better form factor for all the awesome tech being put into the PS5 and done so with better pricing in mind but at this point they think everyone is just going to gobble it up without question because it has a PS logo on the front.

If you go out and look at social media right now it really does seem like this has backfired on Sony. Lots of people even Sony die-hards are not happy.

In the long run they will be fine and most likely "win" next gen but i think they're going to have a much bigger battle on their hands this time than they were anticipating.

Meh, just have to agree to disagree there as well. The design is wonky for sure, but I don't think it's due to greed. I think they got too fancy in focusing on cooling and airflow after all the flack they got over jet engine sounding PS4s, and then got too artsy in the visual design after engineering the cooling/airflow needs.

Otherwise, I think it will be $500 as rumored. I'd be very surprised if the Xbox Series X comes in under that. Maybe they'll take more loss to undercut them by $50 and hope to make it back through Live/Gamepass subs from a bigger base. But it doesn't seem like the Xbox division is exactly flush with cash so they may not have the leeway to do that given there always seem to be reports of higher ups at MS, investors etc. not being thrilled with the Xbox division.

In any case, that's all I'll say about that. I have zero loyalty to Sony, MS or Nintendo as corporations. I just happen to love many games made by Sony and Nintendo owned studios. In a perfect world for me gaming would be like movies or music with no exclusive content and us having the freedom to buy whatever hardware we want to play all games just like I can buy any device with a Bluray drive to play any Bluray disc. That will never happen of course, but is always something that's bothered me about gaming and has always made game forums miserable with the fanboyism that results from having walled garden consoles with their own exclusives.

Good, i hope that means he won't even appear in Spiderman 2

Pretty much Zero chance of that given how the first game ended and that this spinoff is coming out. I imagine the sequel will have you playing as both with Miles and Peter working together against Venom or the Sinister Six or whatever.

Um. Remember the last Spider-Man game that took most of the lifecycle of the PS4 to come out?
Um. Remember last gen when Insomniac Games was still a third party studio and they released 14 games, including Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank AND the most kickass Spider-Man game ever?

I love the complaint that it's going to be the same map. I fucking expected that, it's New York. The next one was hardly in Budapest.

Dang, i might be in the minority but i was hopeing this would be an expansion with the original game included all enhanced and rebuilt for PS5. I have selfishly been holding of on buying the first one to get some kinda deal on the PS5. Oh well atleast i can still play both on PS5 if i want the full experience.

? Spider-man was also a new IP (as in new mechanics, having to build assets etc)

While they did Spider man, they also did Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet remake etc So this being made on the SAME ENGINE as Spiderman, it makes sense why they have a version coming out on PS5 this soon. So don't just talk about this whole "took most of the lifecycle of the PS4 to come out" and then ignore WHY it took them that long.

New engine, mechanics, assets, working on OTHER IP, hardware etc.

Don't just compare the damn time, compare and bring up what they where doing too. Be fair about this man.

Usually studios have alot easier time with sequels as opposed to new IPs. Alot of this is time saving in the pre-production phase. Another time save is asset development, especially when you are moving to a higher end piece of equipment, all the higher end models and assets already exists. Its more work to port them down than it is up.

SCOURCES: "Trust me bro!"

Seems rushed for the console launch. Only 2 years in between games.

? maybe you don't know Insomniac. Someone listed their cycle with turnarounds and when they make an engine to a game, they are wildly efficient. Like able to make a AAA sequel in 2 years efficient.... Any other game developer I might consider it rushed, but Insomniac isn't the norm.

Wasn't insomniac dropping a game every year during the ps3 era?
Resistance 1 06
Ratchet future 07
Resistance 2 08
Ratchet crack 09
Resistance 3 10
Ratchet all 4 one 11

Sooooooooo theses guys know what they are doing. Now that they are owned by Sony, it means they are also not working on other hardware and other IP.

So notice their releases and consider they are no longer working on ios, PC etc. So if they can do what Leo listed before Sony bought them, they are going to be EVEN MORE efficient now only working on 1 system, vs 3 or 4 etc.

And spider-man (2018) was their biggest game by a wide margin, right? You can't compare all their games because they didn't take the same amount of time and work.

Yea and this is working on the existing engine right? So yes, we actually can compare this to their other titles as they are treating it JUST like they do with their other work. Make the engine and take more years the normal, then start doing 2 year releases. Thats not unusual for this team. The fact that they are doing it NOW is showing its not really unusual for them.

First it is an expansion...then it's not.
Sounds like Microsoft at beginning of this gen.

P.S. I love Shitstain Schreier coming in on his white horse to protect Sony's honor. 😒

P.S.S. Call it what you want, but it's using all assets from the 2018 game with some next gen upgrades. We use to call that DLC or if you're really old....an expansion. Feel same way about Lost Legacy.

Regardless, sounds cool, I'm in. But it shouldn't be a full price $60 game....which we all know it will be.

nah lol NOTHING like MS at the beginning of this gen.

Its 1 executive trying to answer a question and just butchering it and Sony correcting him.......thats it. I see no reason to call it "DLC" based on using the same engine or assets, thats like calling AC Odyssey or RE3 remake DLC....

Plus this game is actually running on new enhancements that they made to the engine and reworked assets so its nothing like "DLC". Many side games or games not numbered in a series and we didn't just call them DLC man. Thats like saying GTAVC and GTASA are "DLC", as "Call it what you want, but it's using all assets"

Sony or their fans can't admit to any of that after shitting on Microsoft for cross generation games on the series x. They will dance and dance around it then use mental gymnastics around the truth as you said it. If Jack Ryan did not open his big yap it be no big deal. All new generations are starved for content and this glorified dlc is great if you did not shit on Microsoft for only cross generation at the start. It's like karma bit the guy in the ass and the other games are not ready lol.

I agree.

I dont mind adding the content like this, especially at the beginning of a gen. Spiderman was a great game from an awesome dev. Boost up the graphics for PS5 and add some fresh story. All good.

Just dont pass it off as something more than it is (clearly an expansion - as admitted to by a Sony exec)...and then charge me $60.

I do think MS has the right strategy: Smart Delivery & free upgrades. Im excited to play Gears 5 in 4k / 120fps with upgraded graphics.....FOR FREE. 😎

I see absolutely no chance it will be more than $40

Well do we have any idea how big or long the game is going to be? Seems pretty crazy to say it will be full price or not until we get more details. It could be the first or a Miles trilogy and just as big as the first game for all we know

Agreed. For all we know this game is just as long and with just as much stuff as the first. The team is known for a fast turn around, it would be like saying if Resistance Fall Of Man 2 should be less money cause 1 released in 2006 and 2 released in 2008.

So they do AAA games wildly efficiently so who knows. We'll have to wait for the details.

My post was when there were people saying it was smaller in scope and akin to Uncharted Lost Legacy.

If those comments are bogus, then I of course agree it could end up longer and full priced.

Just remembered that Uncharted: Lost Legacy had an initial retail price of $39.99

Anyone think that Insomniac/Sony will sell Miles Morales at $39.99 as it seems like a similar standalone/expansion type game? Or they'll try to capitalize on the hype and new PS5 launch and sell it for full price?

Still trying to figure out if this is the original Spider Man 2018 game + DLC + Miles Morales content or just a standalone Miles Morales content? Anyone know?

It's a stand alone game. Comparisons to Uncharted Lost Legacy can be made on the basis that it's a spin off that happens after the previous games.

Expect the game to be the same size as Marvel Spiderman. So I expect it to be fully priced.

Some will try to convince you that because it doesn't say Spiderman 2 or because it's set in New York (I mean really? Where the fuck would Spiderman take place?????), it's not a full standalone game and it's some sort of expanded DLC. Don't listen to the trolls, listen to the developers.
