Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

All I want from this Direct is for it to go SCHWING at the end after the screen turns black and the Smash Bros. cross appears on the screen.
I would love it if they lead in to the "Inkling in Smash" trailer in the same way they did the Duck Hunt trailer in last year's Direct.

"Splatoon releases in stores and on the Nintendo eShop on May 29. That same day, you will be able to also purchase the Inkling line of amiibo featuring Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and the triple pack with Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid. Also available that day is the next wave of Smash Bros. amiibo, featuring eight new figurines for your collection... and speaking of Smash Bros..."

*SCHWING*

Maaaaaaan if this were to happen, I think my heart would stop. Literally.

I don't think that we had a game direct (other than SSB's obviously) with a SSB character announcement, so I don't know why would you expect that?

There's about a 12% chance of this happening, but...

I'd say zero chance, at least for now.

On the other hand, next MK8 dlc, 2 new characters, multiple colors like shy guy, yoshi. Splatoon themed stages with many ink traps that work like Blooper but different colors.
Plus this could be the dlc to add old school battle and some new modes inspired from splatoon.

I recall the 2nd Mario Kart 8 DLC pack being the last one, though I may be wrong.

It's the last one announced but I have hope. I mean why not, it's not like there will be another one coming till next console, having a dlc every 6 months is a great way to keep the game alive, have a constant revenue and entice new customers to get in.

For me this is the perfect model for games like this and Smash and much better than having a new release every 2-3 years like other publishers do. Same goes for Splatoon.

Two reasons why there will "only" be 2 DLC packs for MK8:
1. In late April 2014, Nintendo announced that the marketing campaign for MK8 would last a year.
2. The official MK8 OST was released in Japan just recently, containing material from both the DLC packs.

IMO, if 48 fun racing tracks with great graphics and music + 200cc don't entice new customers, nothing will. :-)

The Smash DLCs available so far has been over-priced and not at all the same gameplay value as MK8 or Pikmin 3.

OTOH, Splatoon has been promised post-release content, but we'll probably not get any announcement on major DLCs until some time after the game release. Since the single-player campaign in Splatoon is basically a 3D platformer game, I'm personally hoping they will also add more single-player 3D platforming campaigns for a good price.

5$ for a new character considering the original game had 50+ characters seems overpriced to me. But yeah the mii outfits were even worst, didn't expect that from Nintendo or at least, they could allow them to also be unlocked from amiibos.

I wanna say they said last year at e3. I can't remember if it was during the treehouse stream or another sites but they interviewed some of the developers and I swear they mentioned the composer.

Edit: Looking it up might help XD. Wiki says its Toru Minegishi

Coincidentally (or not), Mario Artist: Talent Studio on the N64 DD has several pieces of music which has a somewhat similar style as Splatoon's music.

Have a new IP related Nintendo Direct, people are talking about DLCs for the big franchises. The Wii U drama in one thread, practically.

regarding post Wii U release of Splatton, I really hope EAD Kyoto has the game already running in every conceivable Nintendo hardware platforms for the next decade, so they can expand when is the right time and there's business case for it.
Necessarily it must be the case for Mario Kart 8 code, and DLC and stuff too.

Especially as it launches in the same slot, I'm expecting Nintendo to have a virtually identical DLC strategy with Splatoon as they did with Mario Kart. Assuming that the Mario Kart DLC worked for them financially.

This is what I expected to happen in the TW101 Direct.

Needless to say I was heartbroken and I'd hate for that to happen again ;__;

Has a game specific Direct ever made an announcement for another game even if it is related to the current Direct? Don't expect Smash.

If the inklings were coming as Smash characters soon the direct would be the perfect opprtunity to announce, I just don't think they are coming any time soon.

I still remember those time that people expected to see Wonder Red to be announced for Smash Bros during Wonderful 101 Direct. People were so disappointed that they didn't get any trailers.

You guys are deflating my hype with all this Smash-talk. Please, keep this crap out of the Splatoon Direct
+ the E3 presentation
!

There wasn't any MK8/SSB DLC or SSB character announced for any new upcoming game from Nintendo. Even the MK8 DLC was not linked with any new game.

There are more chances of having a Splatoon coverplates for the new 3ds in NA than Splatoon DLCs for MK8 and SSB 4.

Game specific Direct focus on the game and its features ergo those interested in the game watch them. An announcement for Smash (even if related to Splatoon) makes sense in a Direct with a more general audience.

You're getting Smash at E3 whether you like it or not.

I know, I know...it's just that for a person who thinks that Smash is simply a good game, it's getting kind of annoying. I'd rather prefer them focusing on the unreleased games instead and keep everything Smash-related to Smash-specific presentations.

But enough Smash-talk for me.

Can't wait to play the demo tomorrow! :P

Think they could reveal more local multiplayer modes at this point, or is it too late? The lack of local MP is my biggest disappointment with this game... I would've liked it to be the new Goldeneye / Timesplitters 2...
