Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

Right (I Googled it before posting that), and it wasn't announced until the Nintendo Direct. Therefore, it was an intended to be announced in the Nintendo Direct. That's a leak.

That is true, but the rumor nailed the announcement timing (which was not specified in the Investor Meeting). You could chalk that one up to a guess, I grant. But in combination with hitting some of the other marks, there was an awful lot of smoke in one place just a few days before the Direct hit.

But I'm talking to a wall here.

Does anyone have a link to this previous "leak"? I'm having trouble finding it, and as much as I'd like to jump in and respond to this, I don't want to do so without first seeing that previous "leak."

For the record, I'm pretty much certain there is no chance that the Splatoon "leak" is real, though it'll be cool if some of those elements end up being part of Nintendo's plan. From this Direct, I'm thinking we'll just get a much better sense of what is in this game and how it all works, kind of like the 50-Fact Smash Direct. Unfortunately, it won't be as impressive as that one was, but it's almost certain there's still some stuff to show (stages, multiplayer modes, etc.).

EDIT: I apologize for all the quotes, but I don't really feel comfortable saying anything is a leak until the info is confirmed. The last real (and only?) Nintendo leak I can think of (not including retailer/ratings leaks, since those happen all the time for everyone and really only give us release dates and titles) is the Smash 3DS one. That was huge. Wonder what happened to that person, considering the rumors of a lawsuit...

I admit that the Rumble World classification was a leak, but it wasn't that Direct leak.
It's looking more likely the German rumor cribbed it from there, I will relent. But the end result is the same, content intended for the ND leaked prior to airing. Just not the content directly produced for the presentation.

As for Amiibo Tap, we actually had the timing from the investor meeting. It was for release in Q2 2015, so logically it would have been in that Direct.
Damn, I did just find that line in the Investor Meeting script. I kept reading past it for some reason.

Sarcastic quotation marks are sarcastic. (Edit: And then Kirby's edit made it clear that wasn't intended, so I feel like a jerk for saying even that.)

Don't bother responding, I don't feel like dying on this hill anymore.

I apologize for the wall comments and such, I shouldn't have trusted my memory on the contents of the rumor so readily.

Oh, yeah, sorry about the quotes. I realized how they might come across, but I couldn't think of a better way of writing it.

Looking at the reddit post, it seems like it was what I had previously stumbled upon. I won't say anything more if this is all done. :) Hopefully Paper Mario Wii U eventually becomes a reality though!

It is not a leak related to a ND. Devil's Third was classified for Australia long before that game, and Devil's Third has not been mentioned in the 2 general NDs that have appeared since then.

Leaks that hints on things to come and leaks that show the contents of a ND are 2 different things. Educated guesses of the contents of a ND based on the current buzz are the only "leaks" we have regarding the NDs.

I already know how this game "feels" from last year and what to expect from it, so I'm not too hyped for the Direct, but I hope they will release a demo on eshop because I'm sure this could tremendously help the sales for the game.

Yeah pretty much the same here.
I, as well as lots of people have had the opportunity to play this quite a bit at different events.

Tbh considering they have a demo game available for all these events, it seems pretty certain that they would have one.

Do you think you'll pick up the game when it comes out?

Since you played it, I'm curious if you're "sold" on it.

If I can: I've played the demo twice, and I loved what I've played. The visuals, the controls, the mood and the gameplay. But I'm not SO into the "online play" (in general), so I was happy with the single player mode trailer, and I'm looking forward for more details about the "story mode", and about the local multiplayer. Btw I REALLY liked what I've played (it was an 8 player 4VS4 "LAN" demo)

I have already preorder the pack with the squid amiibo, so yes.

I played it at last Gamescom (the E3 demo) and I like it so much that by the end of the day I went again into the long queue to have another go at it. And it was just one map and a regular gun. It really felt fun to play. It helped that my team won 3 out of 4 rounds and I was the best player in the last round. I think that the idea that this could be like MK8 for shooters is not just a marketing thing. Unfortunately it will be limited by the Wii U install base and Wii U owners trend of not buying anything not Mario or Zelda related.

But I really think that most of the people that will play this will like it a lot, that's why I hope for a demo.

That's great to hear. :-D

Nintendo should have done something like SEGA did with Sonic Boom last year: Release the game AND a cartoon show series on a big channel such as Nick or Cartoon Network... This could had expanded the franchise even more, plus tons of commercials of the Wii U game on each commercial break... Maybe if Splatoon was conceived on the Wii era that could have happened easily but right now a TV series seems too risky for a brand new Wii U exclusive. :(

Makes sense.

This might perform better than Nintendo expects, but they're probably not expecting much in the first place.

NoA did market research for Splatoon on the street in January, and NoE/NoA have shown the E3 demo at just about every gaming event imaginable during the past months. Why wouldn't they expect much?

I hope they clarify some of complaints people have been voicing regarding the online component, because I'm already worried that the competitive scene will be dead after a month.

I wonder how Nintendo would handle a demo for a online multi focused game

If you do offline 1 vs 1, everybody cant enjoy it if they dont have anyone to play with, if you do single player, thats not true to what the game is.

How about an early access online demo, where your saves carry over once you buy the game, either give a time limit or plays limit.

I don't think they expect much because it's a new IP on WiiU. That's why they're giving it their all, trying to help it do as well as it can under such circumstances.

Really hoping a demo is announced in the direct...

Don't get the hype

I want a demo as well. All this marketing and I love the design of the characters.
BUT a demo would push me into Day 1 if I like it. Since from what I have seen I can wait on getting the game so far.

Damnit, Nintendo. I hate when we have Directs about games we almost know everything about. Leave something to the imagination, sheesh.

It definitely FEELS like we know a lot, minus the inevitable variations on multiplayer and new arenas. But it's impossible to say that we know everything. For all we know, there could be entire squid parkour game built into this with time trials and whatnot, plus an eerie Metroid Prime-style campaign in the Octarian's home ocean, but we really have no idea until they show us every menu. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't at least one major surprise left, though it might just be a really cool multiplayer mode. However, I do agree: after this Direct, we'll probably know 95%-100% of what's included in this game.

If a demo is released it will be one they have been holding at events. I doubt they will release an eShop demo right away since they have been pushing events and other venues to get the game in the hands of people.

Splatoon is officially mainstream now

All I want from this Direct is for it to go SCHWING at the end after the screen turns black and the Smash Bros. cross appears on the screen.

since you track the meetings quite well, what was the QoL timeline for details? thinking the nx/mobile games announcement could be them trying to sweep it under the rug a little

Well we got details about the actual sleep part of QoL 6 months ago. I imagine as this is to be the general annual meeting, we'll get some form of details about it.

As it's not gaming related, it's hard to predict what they'll do
