Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

If you kill someone then that person is dead on their end too, regardless of lag.

Imagine if the opposite were true. You shoot directly at someone and they clearly should've taken enough shots to die, but aren't dead? You roller right over someone but they somehow live, because they were actually somewhere else and lag lied to you? Would be so frustrating. So, often with lag players will end up killing each other. I think that's a fine way to handle it IMO.

This is very true. Not saying that it's not fair, just seems a little off.

This has never happened to me. It's not the game, it's probably your internet connection.

Also possible, but I've had friends from all over with different internet connections have this happen to them too. I'll have to try the game with the hardwired connections, but these occurrences are few and far in between.

That is how lag works tho. Nothing baffling there.

Baffling was a poor choice of words, I suppose. I actually find it somewhat funny (and just a little frustrating) to see ink being rolled out by itself with no person behind it. I don't have a proper comparison for how this would work in a more "typical" online game.

My closest game in a while:

18235717150_21378ce564_k.jpg

A tenth of a percentage point!

Taking a break, though. At the moment my girlfriend's cousin is playing Turf Wars using my account. She's a beginner at TPSes (and video games) in general, but loves the roller. And I'm getting money/equipment experience!

A lot of talk on latency, weird that the only times i've had the lag-tastic experiences of beyond-the-gravekills and disappearing players, was when my own internet was hitting the shitter.

If I see someone else disconnect or obviously lag, they've basically just stood still or run straight without moving, until they disappear.

I find it hard to believe you don't notice the large amount of double kills which is down to latency.

In most modern PC games I've played either this strange behavior happens or the game itself is paused (SC2 or something like that) depending on the situation. I think the Wii U's questionable wifi capabilities combined with immature netcode and loose (in a global and ping filter sense) matchmaking lead to more noticeable lag though.

I was on a winstreak in ranked, but then I lost once and got scared. ):
I'm still only at C+. At least I levelled up to 19 relatively quickly due to getting 2500 points each win.

Are duders more durable when they're preparing an inkstrike? I swear I shot some guy twice point blank with the Blaster and he survived long enough to set off a strike and gun me down.

Getting increasingly frustrated with Ranked. Not that I'm doing so hot myself, but there are people sitting at the bottom with 0 kills and 7 deaths. Consistently. Also for some reason today's been the absolute worst for matchmaking. I ended up sitting in a completely full lobby waiting 3 minutes until the timer ran out for whatever reason. I keep trying because I just want to make it to level 18 for the E-Liter but at this rate it'd be better to just grind in Turf Wars for a bit. At least there it's not all-or-nothing based primarily on getting lucky with teammates. :/

Whine whine grumble grumble

So my experience with ranking up.
C- to C: Not too hard. Everyone is learning the mode. Some are playing like it's Turf War lol.
C to C+: Not too hard.
C+ to B-: Game, why are you giving me all of the C- players for my team?
B- to B: What are you doing team?
B to B+: Fun close games that could go either way with the occasional "what are you doing teammate".
B+ to A-: I love you team.

I only lost one game going from B+ to A- and that was a close game that we lost cause we pushed in too hard lol.

Splatoon got close to 100% sell-through in Japan, nice.

Then I pray RNGesus gives me you at some point as I am going back to C+ at this rate.

Ugh, B- at 10 Rank Only...might aswell get ready for the C+
Sorry, have to take a break for a couple days, no chance of that haha

Don't worry, i'll be waiting in the low ranks for you at this rate. :P

I mean, not that i'm that good at the game myself, but damn, I atleast try to play the damn objective even when I can't get kills!

Only massive levels of frustration.

Yup. I put off having a Bath until I was B rank when I was 80 points through B-...5 hours later and i'm 70 at C+ and I just give up.

Gonna take a bath and recharge.

Everytime I tried ranked mode, I was against B- players despite being C-, will wait a bit until all the good players are B+ or something to stand a chance x)

I wish people would be more patient on Splat Zones.

On Arowana Mall, it's a pretty common tactic to go down the side path. Now when I get to the end of the path, I can see a Charger's tracer line literally aiming at the opening of the corridor (I even turned the camera round to look at them). As long as the Charger's waiting for me, they're not shooting anyone else, so I thought I'll just wait there.

Now, I get the indicator that someone's going to super jump to me (some idiot who's already died once probably) and I'm just hoping he doesn't go forward right away.

Nope. He goes forward and gets blown away instantly. At least it meant I got the sniper but jeez, it was so fucking predictable.

Has anyone heard about any modding/hacking or anything going on in the game? Just curious, played a game in Turf War just now and a guy called in like 10 Inkstrikes within the time of the match, covering two matches. He was on my team both times, so it was easy wins and all, but I was like...there's no way that should be possible, right? I don't think I've seen more than 4 from a single person in a single match. He left that lobby after the two matches, though, so I was thankfully not on the receiving end of that.

Are there any sneakers that have the ninja ability? I have the sweater but want to use a different top
No. Ninja Squid is a clothes ability only.

There may have been more than one player with Inkstrike. That said, with the Aerospray, I have been known to get up to six in a match, so it isn't impossible if his gear was tailored for it.

I want to play so badly but I have so much homework to do before I go home for the weekend (and yes I'm bringing my Wii U of course lol)

Walls Don't Count is winning lmao.

It's only on Clothing. Here is the list of unique abilities.

Headgear: Opening Gambit, Last-Ditch Effort, Tenacity, Comeback
Clothing: Cold Blooded, Ninja Squid, Haunt, Recon
Shoes: Bomb Sniffer, Ink Resistance Up, Stealth Jump

Is Opening Gambit as sweet for Splat Zones as I think it could be? Because that first push is super important.

Man, Walls Don't Count is winning?
I'm voting for "I See An Orange Door and I Want It Painted Blue"
I feel like you could probably for the entire song, hahaha.

I find it hard to believe you don't notice the large amount of double kills which is down to latency.

That is not latency.

I think the game is designed that way plus the weapons are not hitscan, so obviously you can have double kills.

In cod, you can use your grenade launcher and an enemy at the same time and kill eachother.

Dude, are you comparing SC2, I am assuming starcraft to a shooter?

You want the game paused for everyone, until the net catches up? Really?

I am not sure what you mean by the above in bold. Lag happens no matter if it is wifi or ethernet.

Lag happens in BF/COD on pc alllllllll the time. Ever got shot and you go around a corner and die? that is lag.

Aerospray coupled with some equipment that boosts special gauge fill rate can let you call in an incredible number of inkstrikes per match as long as you're constantly painting (super easy if you stay on high ground in a contested area and keep inking over enemy ink). With just 2 players on a team using Aerospray I've been on the receiving end of a near constant stream of inkstrikes to try and clear up before.

Also, Nintendo Life has an interview up: Interview: Splatoon Producer Hisashi Nogami on Claiming New Territory for Wii U

Can you explain the reasoning for gradually rolling out additional stages, items and modes in the months after release?

There are two reasons for this:

First, we put a lot of effort into every inch of the online stages, so by playing them over and over again users can get a better feel for the terrain, giving the gameplay more breadth and depth. The characteristics of the weapons and the strategies for using them vary with each weapon, and of course these will vary depending on the stage you use them in and even what combination of equipment your teammates and opponents are using. We want users to enjoy each and every single piece of content we've prepared, so rather than provide a lot at once, we're going to be adding them a little at a time.

Second, is that while we've paid a lot of attention to the balancing the game, the flip-side of this is that we feel the game needs weapons with a lot of variety as well as stages with complex layouts to really expand the gameplay.

The problem there is that these can sometimes disrupt the overall balance of the game.

The real fun of Splatoon comes when players are comfortable with the game, and are able to play to their full potential with other players they meet in the online matches.

We'll be adding more stages and weapons as we see how the community matures. We'll also do something similar with further game modes too.

As long as he doesn't die (or dies after using the inkstrike), I think it should be possible. He could also have gear built around it. Tenacity helps quite a bit if your teammates are constantly dying.

I didn't say I wanted that stuff to happen, I quoted a guy who said he was unfamiliar with how lag was handled.

I've been super impressed with the balancing in the game-- with the sole exception of that damned Aerospray gun... I swear, 3/4 (if not more) of the times I get splatted, it's by someone using that weapon. People with that weapon are almost always at the top of the score sheet too.

Wow, really? So 10ish in one match is something that's legit doable? Damn, that's crazy. It was so quick between each strike that I thought something had to be up. Glad he was on my side those two times then, I guess.
