Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Red was letting me have it with the Splat Roller earlier. God damn.

I should just stay in ranked. Anytime I venture out to play Turf Wars I get thrashed.

I am absolutely tearing up the scoreboard with the Splash-o-matic.
Maybe it's the suction bomb rush.

I also tried bubbling a roller and running with them TF2 uber style.
It ran out too fast and we both ended up getting splatted. Ah well, once more unto the breach.

This was my third day with Splatoon. I got home from work early and started racking up a bunch of 1200-point matches. I thought I was figuring things out. Jumped back on a half hour ago and got humiliated in match after match. Guess I was playing the after school crowd before.

Any general tips for a beginner?

i'm pretty sure you can hit with paint falling from the sky like in an arc, but i'm not sure if that's shot damage or dot from the ink on the ground that results

the invincibility powers are strong during use they're really focused powers, kraken needs a good steerer and bubble is still subject to movement/ink restrictions so you can work around them

This game has the worst matchmaking I've ever seen. Hai guis... Let's put a bunch of lvl 5s vs lvl 20s... Good luck!

Unranked is really just random matchmaking I think.

I actually enjoy that the game isn't constantly super hard now that I've leveled up.

Never stop, paint everything (just not walls unless you want to climb) and find a weapon you're comfortable with.

Why isn't regional matchmaking an option tho

To ensure everyone can find a match.

You can ask people here. When Japan started Splatfest, there were times when it was very difficult for non-Japanese to find a match. Sure, we were playing late US time but still.

I'm level 8 and I'm only get matched with lvl 20 players. Is this due to not many new players, or is there some sort of behind the scenes skill matching system?

If it's a skill matching system, I don't think it's working right, cause I'm constantly getting demolished.

Took the plunge. Decided I like dogs and cats equally, so I joined Team Cat to appease our Great and Generous Overlord, Judd.

Are they planning on raising the level cap from 20 (soon or if ever?) I've tried getting into ranked, it's just not for me. Too much depends on having a good team and luck to truly feel "ranked."

So I just got this game a week ago, and it's amazing so far. I decided to really give the gyro controls a chance, and I have to say it feels great. I think I might prefer it over the standard dual stick controls that console shooters normally have. I had my boyfriend give the game a try. He started out on the first level of the single player campaign, and maaaaan it was a struggle. I think maybe he was just too set in the way he's always controlled shooters because he was just doing awful. He kept looking at the ground twisting his body around and just couldn't aim and hit anything. I've had several family members try out the gyro controls, and they all seem to get the hang of it pretty well. I kinda wonder if the gyro controls is easier to grasp if you're a beginner to video games because they don't have their own expectations of how a shooter should control. It's kinda like how some people say it's harder to train someone to squat properly when they have to unlearn the way they originally squatted.

I think raising the level cap would be detrimental as people would complain about the even greater level gap. The only thing raising the level cap does is let people fill bars anyways.

The first couple of hours of Splatoon were definitely a struggle for me but it was great once I finally got the hang of it. I might have given up on them if I hadn't read about how great they were on GAF. I might have lucked out a bit cause the only shooters I've played for the last couple of years were on PC, so it might have reduced the amount of unlearning I had to do.

The only thing leveling up does for you past 10 is unlock new weapons. They'll be releasing new weapons anyway, so I'm not sure what you're asking for other than to watch an arbitrary counter increase.

Yea I think this is the case as well. The only shooter I've ever invested large amounts of time into is TF2 on PC, but since that has kb/m controls I adapted to gyro easily. A handful of people I know who play console shooters more often can't get the hang of it though and just stay with dual stick.

You'd think there was a zap fish up there the way everyone wanted to get up top

Now that the aroes have fallen from grace turf war has a nice mix of weapons.

Rank has a lot of gals, duel Squelchers and krakon rollers

So does anyone have a feel for what the most popular weapons are? I'm currently level 13 and have stuck with the 52. gal deco for a while - for me, nothing else seems to come close. Great damage often gives the edge in close up battles, the seeker gives excellent mobility and opportunity for long range kills, and the ink strike can be crucial in deciding moments.

Mind you, these impressions are mainly for ranked battles.

Holy hyperbole man, what the heck is a charger going to do as a kraken into enemy territory by himself. It's a defensive tool, not an offensive one.

but it's so hard to resist the temptation. If you time it just right you can make a detour through the enemy territory and the special will end right when you get back to your team. Dem triple kills

also, it's a pretty effective siege breaker for maps like Port or Saltspray
