Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

New map comes out. Forced to play on Urchin Underpass twice as often. This is so much better than picking what I want to play.

With that said, Kelp Dome is a nice addition to the lineup. Its definitely a Charger map. So many long open spaces and if anyone goes on the scaffolding they're a free shot.

Is it? You can kind of just walk out of their way. The map is so big if you see a charger you can just back up a little out of their range. Then taunt them for good measure.

also, imagine that you're a squid/kid. you have just got back to the Booyah Base after an exciting round of Turfwar. You talked with Spyke, ordered a shirt. Then went to do some shopping.

but near the vending machine, you find something that will change your whole small inkling life forever.

Oh my god. We need to set up an anonymous graffiti gang that always uses the same tag alluding to some mystery.

Kelp Dome is too big for Turf Wars (I had the bizarre experience of running around with a roller for about a minute rolling through enemy colors and not seeing a single enemy squid), but it's an interesting map for Splat Zone. Lots of different entry points into the main central area, and the walkway grates create a very unique dynamic as people go for the zone. It's a lot of area to control, so it's tough to attack, but that can make for some exciting comebacks.

I ran off an 11 match win streak tonight. Almost went from high B- all the way to B+.

I will say this, the one thing I really disliked about this game is that I cannot remap the buttons. I don't want to press X to jump. I want to press B, dammit.

And a minor complaint, I don't like how much of a dice roll the Chargers are. It seems to be an all or nothing weapon. Either you are really good with it, or you suck big time. I literally had a group of people with a Charger so terrible that they only score 200 points (not counting win bonus) per game. Seriously, might as well have only three people on the team. I want to get much better so I can carry a team when stuff like that happens.

I only dabble with it. It's a good weapon overall, but I wasn't clicking. Maybe I should give it another shot after I went through a few guns so I can get a fresher feel for it. Although, I am not a fan of the sub-weapons. I like the sticky bombs better.
I actually haven't played with Suction Bombs a lot, now that you mentioned it. I quite like the Burst Bomb personally, since I can adjust how far I want them to go by jumping or rolling them at my feet.

I thought so. Do you have to complete the entire single player? I already did the first boss and got the scrolls from those levels.
Each single player boss drops weapon blueprints when you finish them off. More detailed info spoilered.
I believe the third boss drops the blueprints for both aerosprays. The RG requires level 13 or 14 and around 9k money. The MG has a lower level requirement and about half the cost.

Kelp turf wars are so stupid yet so amazing at the same time.

Everyone is getting consistent 700+ scores without the bonus. You have to keep looking at the gamepad because it's hard to get a read from on screen visuals.

Yesterday I was on like a 15 game winning streak, today only 3 wins out of like 15 games.

So much for consistency. I need a good strategy for Kelp Dome, there's so many areas of approach and vantage points to be aware of. I'm not even going to try a ranked match in that map until I get a full understanding of it.

I like the Kelp Dome, but it's way too big for it's own good. It isn't something you can get lost in by any means, but you're going to spend a lot of time inking more than anything else without much strategy involved. You can spend a small portion of the map inking territory just to get your meter charged and rinse and repeat.

Is it? You can kind of just walk out of their way. The map is so big if you see a charger you can just back up a little out of their range. Then taunt them for good measure.
Then you're giving ground to them? I guess you could avoid them and head in the other direction, just keep going in circles. What I mean is there's lots of wide open spaces with not much to hide behind, so in a confrontation where you're both out in the open the Charger will have the range advantage.

OMG.
Imagine my dismay when we start the game (A-Rank) and there are three Paint Brushes on my team.

And, we end up winning that shit! Aha!
I cannot believe it.

Was super salty about the previous game where two A+ jokesters wanted to use the Paint Brush and the Rapid Blaster and we lost horribly. And, to see that.. that made my night.

Also.. I've won only once on Kelp Dome.

'____________'

On two separate occasions I saw all of my teammates meandering in the upper left corner of Kelp Dome doing nothing. I was exasperated.

Oh my god. We need to set up an anonymous graffiti gang that always uses the same tag alluding to some mystery.

Haha, yesss. We'll set it up using the lore behind the sunken scrolls, add secret messages with all sorts of ciphers and watch as people go nuts to solve the mystery

but the real mystery is...
there's no mystery

Judd is not what he seems
GravitInk Falls

Really, I support this idea. I actually think it'd be a bit priceless.

I'm imagining Judd's face done Andre the Giant/OBEY style.

But that's too obvious. It needs to be something original. haha.

Kelp Dome is basically run around like an idiot painting overly large areas, turn around when you see someone with a long range weapon in front of you, go paint other overly large area.

It's too big
.

No it isn't. Honestly, this game needs more big maps like this one.

And it is apparently a great map for chargers/snipers if you know what you're doing.

3 map rotation incoming (we all knew it)

hooray! no more mall every 3hours with 50 chance

This one shot from the roller is fucking retarded

If anything the broken part of rollers is the secondary splatter feature, esp. on skate park
roller to point, Throw paint, throw paint, throw paint, hide, throw paint, throw paint, throw paint, turn into kraken, 100% ink back, repeat

It's so big that you're unlikely to ever have an opponent in both directions, so just turning around and avoiding combat is always a viable option. I've gone rounds with like 1 kill but over 1200 points.

I hope you feel real good about yourself GWX for picking on someone who just got to play that stage wondering what the actual fuck Palutena's Temple is doing in Splatoon.

Asshole.

The new stage, Kelp Dome is very big !

No wonder Nintendo didn't release it at launch.

You have to use "Super Jumping", not get killed, have inkstrike, have rollers down low, snipers up high.

yeah, yeah. The whole 'mystery' thing just brought that up to mind. Gotta put Callie and Marie as part of the
deepest
lore.

deepest as in they're sea creatures

Seriously, I'd be all up for it. I think I gtg now but let's try to make this happen heh.

I agree there's definitely less killing going on since it's so big. As a Charger though you can control the center and you have access to more areas with the scaffolding, you can definitely command a good chunk of the map while teammates clean up the outer areas.

Yeah, kinda, you gotta go into "Join Friends." If enough people join the same friend (or people linked in the same room), the room will fill with people from the same site. That's how the GAF rooms have been getting setup.

It still randomizes teams, though.

Thanks. I'm an idiot. For some reason, I thought the whole Friend thing was entirely separate from the regular game. Not sure why I thought that, since it would mean you'd need 8 friends to fill a lobby.

I don't have 8 friends :(

Okay, gonna do this and go to sleep:
Does anyone have easy access to the Splatty Avatar Things and can Splat my Avatar? I think I'm gonna keep this one but I want to change it since I'm all about Ink now.

I'll give you my gratitude
(and 1 yeah in a Miiverse post).
the yeah is not guaranteed

Man I just played like 10 matches with a friend and we were only on the same team twice. Kind of annoying

Also going head on against a charger and winning is so satisfying
