Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Holy shit. Last night, I had a ranked match on Saltspray Rig. My team jelled pretty well, and we got to where we only had 1 second left on our clock pretty quickly. At this point, the opposing team had about 80 seconds on theirs. And I'll be damned if those guys didn't wake up and hold us off for the rest of the match until they got a knockout -- we couldn't get that 1 second of control in to save our lives.

I love this game.

You're doing it wrong, your team failed you. They're all failures.

Just had 3 super close games in a row. First 1 on Port Mackerel noone scored any time until 30 seconds to go. It was intense but frickin awesome.

2nd match was an extra time victory for my team.

Had the stupidest idea for a #TeamCat art earlier after looking at the Zone of The Enders box art for a bit. Figured I'd pitch the idea to SplatGAF looking for some suggestions. The basic idea is simple:

- "Zone of the Enders" gets replaced with "Capture All Turf"
- "Z.O.E" gets changed to "C.A.T"
- The triangular icon showing the map of the solar system there is changed to either a graphic depicting a cat's face or a cat's eye. I might even keep the planetary orbits as a touch using paw prints instead
- (Hard/Try Hard Mode) doodle out the silhouette of a cat behind the logo

Any thoughts?
I'd say just go for it. Cat eye might be better than cat face if you don't have the space. Then again, cat paws would probably be a bit easier.

Hi everyone, I'm quite into Splatoon at this point (been a lvl 20 for a while, although I never went above B+) but would like to play with the most active members here.. Who should I add? I added a few people from the spreadsheet but it's rather hit and miss (nothing wrong with that but I'm a bit jealous of you all playing and chatting here).

I asked this before. The Google docs is too large to really add everyone and it's impossible to tell who is still active.

So if anyone wants to add someone who plans to be active on the game for a while yet add me - Zemmes

I will add you when I get back home, I won't be playing much Turf War until I claw my way back to the A Rank.

Again, add me. NNID: Narett EST/EDT player.

I play with friends sometimes, but never GAF folks yet despite 80% of the thread consisting of these folks chatting.

follow the thread to check who is playing regularly, it's probably the easiest way to get into GAF room
if anyone wants to add me, I have a terrible connection just a fair warning

Wonderful game. Got it last Monday. Bought the amiibo three pack and got that on Saturday. Basically... beat the single player four times. Fun times.

Me and a buddy have been playing together, either with or against, in normals. I'm 17 and he's 18. Some days we get wrecked and other days we do really well like yesterday. We'd probably get wrecked in ranks though, easily. =p

I noticed that the amiibo costumes you get only have three abilities while costumes you can get in the shop have four attributes. The samurai costume, for instance, has three abilities for head/torso/feet. Is there a way I can get four abilities for that set since my character looks way better in the samurai costume than the other stuff I have right now?

Once you hit 20 you can buy super sea snails from Spyke to give your equipment another slot.

What's the best abilities to play the N-Zap 85?

Atm I've got

Special charge up

Quick respawn

Quick super jump

Swim speed up

Defense up

Ink recovery up

And run speed up

I like it a lot, but is the N-Zap a smelly weapon? I don't see it used often despite me feeling like it's pretty kickass

Tenacity
- Special Charge Up
- Special Duration Up
- Special Gauge Saver

Ninja Squid
- Swim Speed Up
- Inkling Speed Up
- Quick Super Jump

Ink Resistance Up
- Ink Saver
- Sub Ink Saver
- Ink Charge Up

I feel like I have some PRETTY good gear. A- right now. Using .96 Gal and wrecking.

To ensure everyone can find a match.

You can ask people here. When Japan started Splatfest, there were times when it was very difficult for non-Japanese to find a match. Sure, we were playing late US time but still.

Region lock doesn't have to be forced; plenty of games provide an option for it. I'd be happy to wait a bit longer in lobbies if it meant I'd stop being splatted by players who died three seconds ago.

Why tenacity? I rather use gear that always has an effect instead of a rare situation.

That's almost identical to the gear I used to get to A-. Used the same weapon, too!

Main difference is, I hated the hat options available for Tenacity, so I used opening gambit instead. Getting into a nice position early on with the .96 gal was very handy, and helped compensate for my complete lack of skill.

1- Start up Splatoon after a hard day work. B+42
2- Loose 3 matches in a row. Good teammates, close to winning but lost them all. B+12
3- Communication error while winning 8 vs 100. B+02
4- Win a match against 3 players from the beginning, unfair but a easy win. B+12.
5- Communication error in the middle of a good match. B+02
6- Communication Error after like 5 fucking seconds in the match. B70
7- Two games in a row versus OP asians. B50

Yesterday i was fucking B+92 before loosing a few matches. I feel like crying.

I find myself to be a great player, not OP at all, i make dumb move a lot, but i can own and carry my teammates kinda easily most of the time. I accept loosing points for a loss, even if and i did great and ad a bad team or whatever.... but those FUCKING communication errors piss me off really bad.

I can play like 15 match in a row and not even get a single trace of lag, But then just to piss me off while i'm so close to A- i get a shitload of communication error. 3 today, 4 yesterday. thats 70 fucking precious points. and they fucking make you loose 30 points by going from B+00 to B70.

I hope Nintendo find a way to fix that with a patches.

Great weapon, my primary weapon in Turf War. Not the best range but it outranges the Aerospray which is very common and the damage/rate of fire is quite nice for charging in on anything that does outrange you.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about abilities too much, but just try and stay away from the Attack/Defense/Bomb Range as they would probably be a waste. And you can never go wrong with Ink (Main) Saver and Special Charge Up.

Yeah it's smelly as fuck

Why attack & defense abilities are supposed to be a waste? Honest question.

Thanks for the mixed reactions guys! I've been doing decently so even if the weapon is smelly I'll just compensate by not fucking up hahaha

I haven't used the nzap but based on the people playing against me using it it seems to be a pretty good close-range offensive weapon. Probably not great for spreading ink though

I haven't looked into it much detail (not sure if it more information has come out either) but people on Reddit/GameFAQs studied it a while back:

Generally for most weapons it won't reduce the amount of shots needed to kill. But there are a couple of occasions where it might be useful.

Man you opened up a world to me. Did not figure out to use the weapons testing facility for such scientific tests. Thank you!

This "study" is stupid and always was stupid. This person also did a useless "study" on special charge up as well. Disregard.

Attack up will never decrease the number of shots needed to kill another player. However, it does decrease the amount of charge with a charger to OHKO another player. It also negates the effect of defense up.

One main defense up increases the number of shots for some weapons to kill, and one main attack up negates that effect.

Attack up, then, is useful, as is defense up.

Bomb range up is very useful if you can take advantage of it -- one main increases your bomb range significantly (~16%). Special charge up, meanwhile, isn't very useful -- one main decreases the number of points you need to get a special by about 7%, which in the grand scheme of things is very few points.

Here are the numbers, don't use those studies: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bgcQxHCY-g3KXoGf2rnYExium9qeELagu3mF6AjoU4g/edit?usp=sharing

Well yeah it's going to differ for what weapon (and play style) you use but the advice was for a fellow N-Zap user

but I didn't realise there was more up to date information, good to know.

I've been busy the last week and haven't had time to keep up with Splatoon. Is Kelp Dome the most recent map? Any new maps announced? Has NoA said anything regarding Splat Fest on Saturday?

I went from B+ 80 to B 0 over the past few days. I feel you.

Not technically true. It increases the range at which one can OHKO with blaster.
Mentioned that, I specified that it doesn't decrease the number of shots, which is true for chargers -- a OHKO is a OHKO.

But it does decrease the number of shots to kill. At a given blaster range, 2-hit KOs become 1-hit KOs.
Oops sorry, I always read the words "charger" and "blaster" as the same (and I have no idea why I do this). Good to know, thanks for the correction.

At this point, I just want to unlock the sub abilities on my clothes. I'm gonna end up saving the Snails from SplatFest to reroll anything I might want to reroll and only use my money on adding extra slots.

I've been getting a lot of weird team compositions. Was the only Splattershot with 3 rollers recently, and then later was the only Splattershot with three chargers.

What do you guys think is your ideal team setup for Turf Wars or Ranked? Assuming a fairly neutral map like Blackbelly Skatepark.

I'm thinking something like,
1 Short-ranged gun (Splattershot Jr., Aerospray, Splash-O-Matic)
1 Roller (Krak-On or Dynamo)
1 Mid-ranged gun (Splattershot Pro, Squelchers, .96 Gal)
1 Charger weapon (Kelp Splatterscope, E-Liters)

You could probably get away with swapping a roller for another short-ranger, or possibly getting rid of the mid-ranged for something shorter-ranged (if you have a good sniper).

Maybe Splattershot Jr./Krak-On Roller/Dual Squelcher/Kelp Splatterscope? You'd get both the Bubbler and the Kraken, and then Echolocator for support, with some Sprinklers from the charger player. Maybe Dynamo Roller would be better for more range options and another Sprinkler/Echolocator.

Huh what are you talking about? The study is fine. You're saying what it is saying. It also says that the study doesn't apply to rollers and chargers.

Also 7% is nothing to sneeze about. That's usually how augmenting abilities work. You won't see one ability give you like 20% which is ridiculous.
