Yep, theres paint splashes that go on the gamepad too. Looks pretty sweet.

Wait, what? Oh my... what will this retail for in Canada?

Can you play this game with the pro controller? I know it's meant to be played on a gamepad but if I had the option I would probably do better with the pro.

No, Gamepad only. The only other time an output can get used is the local 1v1 mulitplayer, where one player uses the pad and the other uses the Pro.

Seeing these videos I start thinking the multiplayer focus of this game is almost a waste. You can have so much more interesting situations in single player with Splatoon's mechanics.

I honestly don't get the lack of Pro Controller support for single player. The GamePad could easily be used on the side as a view for the map and Super Jumping. For those who don't prefer gyro controls, it's hardly necessary.

Seeing that the Pro is usable for 1v1 multiplayer kinda upsets me.

I support that. Force people to get used to the superior controls. No escape. See the light.

The only problem is the lack of Off-TV Play apparently.

Well for this type of game Gamepad with gyro controls is objectively better, but I do think that Pro Controller should be there. Maybe in a future patch?

I don't understand it being the only way to play just because it's objectively the best way to play. Second player is forced to use a "lesser" control scheme, so what's wrong with first player using it because they actually want to.

Nothing wrong with options. If someone wants the option to be "worse off" than everyone else in multiplayer then that's their choice.

The map would actually be easier to use if you had it in front of you or next to you. Having it on a stand and just tapping a teammates name to jump to them should work just fine.

I'll personally be using gyro myself though, feel good man.

Man, that Reddit post is full of awesome stuff. Single player looks great.

I had to miss the Test Fire as I had family up and I kinda hate life a wee bit. Keep the videos coming!

Probably been discussed to death but what's our chances of another Test Fire? 0%?

Impossible to tell. They removed the client from the eShop but that could just as well be to stop confusion until they announce a second round. Or they got enough data and that's just it until launch. Nobody knows.

The Testfire was fun while it lasted, and I see why Nintendo did it this way... it's a clever way to make you anticipate the game without letting you play it too much up front. That said, I think you not getting to play it might be a blessing in disguise if you were going to get the game anyway... I was "on the fence" before it, played it, and now the wait is real suffering.

As far as chance of new testfire, I'd say chance is pretty much 0% yeah. They removed the ability to download the client from the eShop as well.

Such a messy painter, my ocd was kicking in.

well it makes sense, no point in painting every square inch perfectly when it's much more effective to move on to areas that are mostly covered in enemy ink. That's a "noob" mistake that I saw in a lot of the stress test videos

So, that 4chan says there's a cameo of a
ape with a peculiar visage...

I guess that means Donkey Kong since he sort of has the same "mask eyes" the Inklings have?

Some good abilities here. If it is too spoilerish, tell me quick. Rollers will chose the bomb sniffer, defense up for sure.

Looks like you have to restart the Wii U to get out of online play?

An oversight/glitch it sounds like. It seems like the game doesn't boot you out of an unsuccessful search for a round which would probably be solved easy by adding a timeout check. I don't think it'll be a problem people will face since the online ought to be populated but this sounds a bit cumbersome regardless that you have to commit to a search.

An important thing to note that was mentioned in that link is that in the main game, weapons, sub weapons and special weapons are pre-set like they were in the demo. you can't use the roller with the bubbler special, for example. Or at least you can't customize it like that.

Each main weapon has it's own pre-set sub and special weapon, but it seems that different presets can be unlocked in single player

that's potentially a rather big drawback for ninja squid
depending on how noticeable the bonus is damage up seems to be an auto-lock

This was known for a while I believe and I think it makes a lot more sense after the demo.

The sub weapons/special weapons seem like they were designed to be balanced around the main weapon. Rollers only really get weapons that allow them to kill a little better because their ink coverage is already unparalleled yet they don't have many good kill options, hence why something like the Charger gets superior grenades to use against them.

That's nod to the Wii Classic Controller prototype that never was btw. IGN made a mock up of what was described to them using a GameCube controller into which a Wii Remote would be inserted kinda like that right there.

Huh, interesting. Learn something new every day.

So apparently it's set in our far future after the fall of man. I take it pollution went too far and sea life mutated or we did dark, secret, and horrifying experiments to them. After they gained true sentience they rebelled and got revenge for what we did to them and/or the planet. After which they took control of the planet and let it heal until they started making the same mistakes as us (industrialization and such), and now war is breaking out with the Octopi. Such is the endless cycle of sentient creatures. They feel it is their right to own everything instead of sharing. Even warring among their own kind for territory.

Deep ass lore.

Pretty dark for a Nintendo game
