Hey - I have a pretty pressing question for anyone who might know the answer.

Are you able to have multiple characters on the same save file? My sister and I are going to be playing, just, so much Splatoon all summer, but we each want our own characters and the ability to track our own individual stats. Quitting the game, logging into the other person's Wii U profile, and booting up the game for their save file when we're taking turns with Turf Wars would be an astronomical pain - especially since during the demo, we switched off after every match.

I'm really hoping the developers accounted for this and addressed it - any insight would be very appreciated.

But the New Leaf development team was organized as a 50/50 gender team. My impression is that the Splatoon team is a mostly-male development team.

And? That doesn't mean the members of this team that worked on New Leaf wouldn't learn from it. Why would they just get rid of a good thing?

it is always hard to guess how these things work for each game

I mean the only way I see to save your own stats is to login the Hardware with a different NNID account

how does it work for Mario Kart 8 though?

I assume it'll be that separate NNID accounts have their own save files. I'm not sure if they addressed this yet.

I believe this is how MK8 works, too. Separate NNID accounts have their own save files.

That's not always the case though. Smash 4 has 1 shared savefile for all accounts on the system.

Prepare yourself for the worst.

But honestly, I think you can manage with 30 seconds. Just plan for it and don't agree to switch after every round lol. Say everyone does 30min or so.

All I know is that I'd like my own Inkling and my sister to have her own rather than us sharing one, lol.
Yeah, exactly. Customization is such a huge part of the game - and I also want the satisfaction of leveling my own inkling up and watching my stats evolve.

If there is no way to switch characters within a single save file, I guess my sister and I will have to have a third, shared file along with our two personal ones. But again, that would be a hassle.

Are those 30 seconds or so really that bothersome every 15-30 minutes?

That's not always the case though. Smash 4 has 1 shared savefile for all accounts on the system.

Which is terrible. I don't think any of the EAD games have a system-wide save file, but Smash (Sora/Namco Bandai) and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (HAL) have it.

There are other alternatives: Wii Fit U has a system where guest accounts can play as visitors on another user. IMO, that could be a good approach for Splatoon (
although I assume it will work as in Mario Kart 8
).

You're right. Is Smash the only game like this?

NSMBU and Nintendoland.

Basically it's only used for games with a major local focus. It wouldn't surprise me if MP10 also sets it up that way but I don't have it myself to test.

Just tried the demo at Nintendo World. Basically, it's a timed demo that sends you through the tutorial and into single player. I didn't time it but I'm guessing it's 10 or 15 minutes of playtime. I got halfway through level 1-2 before it ended, and I was all happy I had found the sunken sea scrolls up till then...

NSMBU has multiple save slots and Nintendo Land uses Miis to store individual achievements like unlocked stamps.

I'm sure this was asked, but if it was answered, I missed it. Was curious if anyone whose gotten early amiibos know if the fucntions in Splatoon are read-only or is a write function. Think I've finally talked a friend of mine into getting the game, was wondering if he can just scan in my amiibos for the missions and minigames.

You're not saving anything. All they do is unlock stuff.

Still a 7 days to go.

Is there a midnight digital launch? For MK8 I went digital but I was so excited I still bought it at midnight so I have a digital and unopened physical copy of MK8

You know today I played again and kinda missed the Gyro controls for a second. Then I got used to the sticks again though. I can see the appeal now.
Well if you're familiar with the advantages of KB/M over dual sticks (or most control methods besides dual analog) then you should be able to see the appeal. While not 1-1, gyro does provide a similar aiming experience compared to a mouse and the same goes for IR pointer or PS Move aiming. And those advantages definitely affected developers' decision to implement cross-platform play last gen.

Just came back from paying my preorder. Found something that might be interesting: Splatoon has premium pricing here at México.

- 60dlls games last gen used to cost $1000MXN (TAX included; roughly 77dlls back then, 65.5dlls with the current dollar/MXN ratio)
- With the new generation, games started to cost $1100 MXN (roughly 72dlls with the current dollar/MXN ratio). This is also the price of Atlus' 3DS games.
- Splatoon is the first and only game to date to cost $1200 MXN (roughly 78.50dlls)

Why Splatoon? that surely won't help the sales of a new IP. Unless preorders have been very good for the game, I think it would've been better to pick another to increase the prices...

What do you guys think?

A demo of Splatoon is available to play at the Nintendo World store.

I work a block away so I'll be heading over there. After stalking this thread and watching all the videos, im excited to give it a try, lol.

Copy should arrive tomorrow, found the cheapest deal online and they already sent it out..
Come on royal mail, you've never let me down before.

It'd be pretty awesome if you could actually wear a skirt as a boy Inkling.

Gender progressiveness in a game that many kids will play.
Yeah, I was hoping this would be a thing in Splatoon from the moment I heard Animal Crossing people were working on this.

But is it confirmed the boys can wear girl stuff and vice-versa? If so, that is really awesome.
