[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

So.... A few questions

What was the squads actual mission supposed to be before Enchantress went crazy and attacked those people in the subway? Like why did Waller assemble them? She kept saying it was 'need to know'

Why did Joker try to kill Harley then change his mind and dive after her? I didn't understand their relationship at all

The squad doesn't really have a mission prior to that. Amanda Waller just wanted to get the permission and paperworks done to assemble them and send them to do any dirty job if there is any.

Wild to read they filmed and then took out the abusive relationship angle with Joker and Harley.

This is a corporate product marketed to as many ages as possible, including kids.

That wouldn't have worked, but it would've given it more identity and some of it was kind of intriguing, but Leto's performance was highly distracting from any of the positive parts. They leave interesting hints in there like Harley going off on Diablo and her dream sequence.

Edit: was anyone else put off by the fact that Deadshot is casually discussing killing for money with his daughter as part of a math lesson?

Was that supposed to be like...cute? Because it's actually disturbing as hell, though the performances save it from being completely stupid.

Yes he did. The movie would've been even worse without him.

I disagree. I thought he was needless filler. He doesn't even meet the squad, what's the point? They could have established him by just keeping Harley's flashback origin scene and the final scene where he breaks into the prison to rescue Harley.

The movie is already too dragged down and long now so they should have cut as much as fat as possible. Katana should be cut out of the film too.

I agree that he's not integrated well, but man the movie need something.

Also I never wanna see the hula dance ever again. Everybody must've been on drugs when Cara did that.

His heist with all the masks is the best action sequence in the film. It's also the shortest.

I thought the movie was good until the first action scene against the plant people, or whatever the fuck they were, that Enchantress was making. The movie nosedives off a cliff after that point.

Leto's Joker was whatever to me. I didn't hate it but the entire time he felt like Alien from Spring Breakers cosplaying as the Joker.

Watching the trailers again to see what else is cut out. Noticed Katana fighting Harley with a green tendril connected to her, then Croc attacking Katana. My guess is originally she's possessed and fights the team.

Just got back. Good characters in a bad movie.

When you make an action movie and there isn't a single good action scene you fucked up. Editing felt all over the place, and the music was just annoying. I like these characters and I want to see them on an interesting mission, not this Enchantress bullshit with really stupid looking cannon fodder.

Worse than BvS, which wasn't even that good. Major disappointment.

Yeah, I agree. I mean Suicide Squad was probably the movie I was looking forward to the most in 2016. And it's just crushing to feel so disappointed. That heist looked really fun, but it's so short.

He should've been properly integrated by making him the target of the Squad or something or reduce his role.

LMAO they cut the whole sequence in the bar where they were ordering their favorite drinks.

Man I totally buy that there were two different cuts in this movie and that there were reshoots.

This movie is a big mess up. Like BvS level mess up. It's too bad because I think the characters were cool enough, just stuck in a mess of a movie.

Why was Deadshot walking towards that big monster at the end? He's supposed to be a great shot, he doesn't need to get close and he wasn't out of bullets. It didn't make any sense.

No lie, they should've brought in Snyder to film the action scenes.

I wouldn't have minded that. At least those scene would be kind of entertaining and so much more memorable.

I think unlike BVS which I could easily write off as a fucking mess, i wound up frustrated by this movie because you can easily see how this could be much better. I went in with low expectations but wanting to walk out surprised, and instead I just walked out with my expectations met.

Will Smith and Viola Davis killed it, I liked Margot Robbie more than I thought I would. Leto though is awful as the Joker, and all of the marketing about what he did to get into the role just puts a huge spotlight on that. The few seconds he's gleefully spraying gunfire in a tux from the chopper right before the climax was the only time I felt he truly embodied the character.

I think it would be much better for Captain Boomerang's characterization if he just bolted and never came back. It's not like he did anything noteworthy during the final sequence.

I was so disappointed when he quietly just shuffled back into the squad. Would've been a GOAT exit. Was also disappointed that Dr Moon just somehow came back after the enchantress died

The thing that confused me was the callback to his daughter. Was she telling him not to kill Enchantress? But then he shot anyway? But Enchantress lived?

IMO this movie makes BvS look like Schindler's List. Granted I don't think BvS is nearly as bad as people think.

This movie was bad. Like wow, it had to have been cut to shreds. I wonder if there was ever a good movie at one point and WB just took it out. I liked Harley and the Joker but that was about it. El Diablo was badass but then died a few seconds later.

A mess.

And I agree with a poster above me, even though I liked him Joker didn't even need to be in this movie.

Enchantress was screwing with his mind to try and make him not shoot her.

Also, WTF was with Batman kissing Harley?

BVS Ultimate Cut is better than this. This was 2 hours long and still felt like a slog. That's a feat to accomplish.

I think a lot of the performances were great.

Margot was great as Harley. She sold what was given to her which to be honest wasn't much.

Will Smith was a great Will Smith... I mean Deadshot. Which is fine because I love me some Will Smith.

Viola Davis was perfect as Amanda Waller.

Jai Courtney was perfect as Boomerang.

Everyone else did their part decent enough. Honestly I was most disappointed in the Leto's Joker. Just did not gel with me, hard to point at the right aspect of it. Maybe if he wasn't so luvy duvy over Harley the entire movie we could've seen more range from this Joker. I want to see his interaction with the Batfleck.

But that editing though... like wut. Seriously what the hell was that?

mouth to mouth resuscitation is my best guess. but it's weird that he didn't do anything and he couldn't tell she was alive? Like the Batman couldn't tell? weird scene.

That was clearly supposed to be a CPR scene but it was shot/acted very strangely and looked more like Batman was kissing Harley.

He even checked her pulse and he didn't notice she was alive.

He checked her pulse then tried mouth to mouth. Harley played Batman like Squints played Wendy.

Ropeguy was on screen for like a total of 2 minutes. Comes out of nowhere, barely says anything, and dies. They showed literally all of his screen time (barring like two lines of dialogue) in the trailers.

To top it all off their description of his ability is that "he can climb anything" and that's it. Amazing.

And he was the only one that didn't get a little introduction montage?

Not a single second, I think that was the joke.

It was basically like "here's the Squad. Oh and this guy we just brought in."

If I were Adam Beach I would've demanded a Will Smith sized paycheck to let them do me that dirty.

I THINK he was supposed to be giving her CPR, except that's not how you fucking apply CPR to a person at all. He literally just sucked her mouth
Yeah, afterward from online conversation I figured it was meant to be CPR, but it looks nothing like CPR, so in the theatre that didn't register at all. I was confused about why Batman was suddenly a pervert.

Ropeguy was there just to show that Amanda's Waller explosive device wasn't a hoax.

I hope he got paid for being such a blatant "plot device". I laughed when the boomerang guy started giving him his little spiel. I knew he was gonna be dead within 2 minutes.

What really bothers me is why Enchantress waited until that moment to go get Incubus to start their mayhem. She could have done that before the film even took place, but she didn't. It's not like there was anything stopping her after all.

Right, but seeing in context that that's the only reason he's there is pretty hilarious

His total screen time had to be under 2 minutes

Still more than Common, I thought he'd have a bigger role for some reason.

And the statue wasn't even protected or anything. Just standing on a shelf with some other books and shit.

Her powers were all over the place and completely broke the plot. She can instantly steal classified documents on the other side of the world, but has plot convenient restrictions when needed.

She could've grabbed that statue and her heart too. Was never clear on how exactly that works; her brother saved her but they still needed her heart for some reason? Why couldn't Waller just have killed her right then ?

She would've shredded the Squad if they didn't have plot armor

Was he the gang leader or whatever on the club? Didn't even know he was in this till the credits. He got higher billing than Karen Fukuhara for goodness sake

Yeah, he was the guy who talked with Joker for a minute and then was offered Harley or something. I forgot what happened to him. Did Joker shoot him?

Did she know that Waller had her brother? Felt like she randomly stumbled upon him.

Wait did she release her brother, then try to help Flagg stop him, then join him? It was so stupid I can't remember lol

The bad editing made that scene confusing. Yes, I think so, but I have no idea why because he basically said "I'm not touching your girl".

I think they were trying to tempt him and do a "what she's not good enough for you?" damned if you do damned if you don't thing, but it was....not well presented

You might be on to something here...

Weren't Flagg and Enchantress send to the subway to blow up the brother? But she teleported from the subway to Waller's room right?

So needlessly confusing haha

I can't even figure out if she knew he was there or not, but given the fact that she was definitely trying to get her heart back as well, the question is still "why didn't she do this already?"

I didn't even realize that she released him and then went to help Flagg until you mentioned it and holy shit that's amazingly bad

Waller freely told everyone that she's got her brother during the introductions.

And it goes like this:

*Enchantress frees Incubus*

Enchantress: Recover your strength, brotherrr.

*Enchantress waits a day as Incubus go on a killing spree to recover strength*

Waller: Help us blow your brother up or I stab your heart.

Enchantess: Frick that I'll just ask my now powerful brother to give me a makeshift heart.
