[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

Was captain boomarang caught in central city because they never stated where? I would assume it was cause the flash stopped him.

Secondly, I didnt watch any of the trailers except for the very first teaser and man, Harley had so many great moments. She killed it in every scene. i havent seen an actor command a room like this since Heath Ledger. Will Smith was great too. he really humanized these villains and had great chemistry with Margot Robbie and that Spec Ops guy from House of Cards,

lucky you, they spoiled damn near every cool Harley and Joker scene through the trailers. ugh.

The only thing I laughed at was Killer Croc's ridiculous looking crawl into the water at the end. It was so dumb looking.

Anyone else bothered by how empty the city was? There were hardly people running or laying around and if they had been turned into monsters why were there so few of them?

One of the gloss over things, it was 3 days since the attack started so made sense most of the city was empty.

Also... poor Ropeguy didn't even make it into an action sequence.

Why was Enchantress making those weird moves when she gave her evil villain monologue at the end? Reminded me of this:

Also, where was Flash during all this? Does it take place during Justice League?

Got home a little while ago and really enjoyed the film a lot. As did my sister. I was really happy to see how diverse the audience was as well in my showing. Plenty of laughs throughout the film too. There could have been more Joker though. However it's not his film but I want to see a cut with him in more scenes. The use of Batman was good and even though he's in the film overall for a short amount of time he was used effectively I think.

I really like that Harley's classic jester costume was in the film and with her in it. I wasn't at all expecting that and it was a direct shot of that picture with her and Joker. The biggest surprise for me was The Flash. Didn't expect him to show up but was really happy he did.

I assumed it was because she was casting magic. Wasn't surprised by that. I've read and seen other things where people casting magic or just doing things mystical would move in weird ways. Why that's a thing I'm not sure. She's also ancient and could be ties to tribal origins and movement.

The Flash shows up when Waller explaining the different characters in her meeting. When she gets to Boomerrang and is explaining who he is we see a flashback to his capture and see he was captured by Flash.

No, I meant where was Flash during the events of this film? It is supposed to take place over 3 days and it is happening in his city, right? Midway?

yeh, i cringed at this. and most of the dialogue tbh. hardly any of the jokes landed, too.

the one thing that did get a solid chuckle out of me was cap'n boomerang bolting as soon as flagg said they were freed. but then they ruined it because he's in the very next scene still with them for some reason.

Haha yea that was great.

I had no idea what was going on with that dance or whatever

It looked so bad

So was amanda waller responsible for all this shit? It was her meta human who caused all the destruction after all.

I don't know much about the character. I was expecting a badass likable woman. But by the end of the movie i thought she was an idiot asshole.

She's always an idiot asshole.

She is a badass. And an asshole.

Waller causing her own problems is nothing new but as others have said it not good for a first movie.

Here's how a Suicide Squad story goes

An ill-advised group is put together by Waller
She sends them on a mission
Shit goes bad or she tries to fuck them over, either way it's always her fucking fault
They skate by on the skin of their teeth
She gets off scot-free

Brief flashes during the flashback, this is that scene we saw them shooting on the street, wish we got the whole thing.

That visual of her in straight up jester costume dancing with Joker during that flashback exposition whatever-you-want-to-call-it is easily my favorite image in the entire movie.
Legitimately freaked out when they showed that. Wasn't expecting to see a recreation of Alex Ross's Harley and Joker.

It's always Waller's fault because she has a mission then she has a mission

And never let's them in on the 2nd one which eventually ends up biting everyone in the arse.

I mean it's a movie of bad vs evil, and ultimately Waller is the "Evil" in this film.Should have pushed it more.

Really glad I stayed for the post-credits stinger.

"You believe in friends. I believe in leverage."
"Pack it up. Let my friends handle it."

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Wayne and Waller.

I took it as it was implied it was Central City. They talk about how he moved from Australia to the US to rob more banks. Then he's caught by The Flash. He's shipped to Belle Reve as he's not housed there.

Waller causing her own problems is nothing new but as others have said it not good for a first movie.

Superheroes having to fix their own problems instead of being proactive and fixing problems that other people create is a big problem with superhero movies.

I think it has a lot to do with Hollywood's need to tie everything together, going back to linking Batman and Joker's origins in Batman 89.

She murders her own staff in cold blood and is directly responsible for the deaths of thousands? Millions? She is evil alright. Worst of the worst.

The only bad part about Waller is how she kept the statue which traps the dangerous and powerful soul, in a room thats not guarded nor hidden at all from a dangerous witch who can teleport and stuffs. Its literally up on a shelf for grab.

Pretty meh, I feel like Deadshot and to a lesser extent Harley would be better in a different movie. The Joker felt like Leto doing a Jack Sparrow impersonation, complete with costumes. And Flagg was the worst in my opinion, some of his stuff was sooo cringeworthy. I can't believe it was almost Tom Hardy. Waller was fine, and everyone else was just kind of there. That third act was awful though.

Yup. He was probably at Iron Heights before being shipped.

I feel like Flag is... just a kind of there character

Even in the comics. He is the straight man to a bunch of loons. Not much to work with really. Guess could have gone full on patriotic

Just got back from seeing this and thought it was a bad movie. Jared Leto's Joker is atrocious and the worst I've ever seen. I really hope we don't have to deal with him too much in future DC movies.

Margot Robbie was good, and I liked the parts with Batman. I really don't like what they did with Killer Croc, though. I'm surprised, as I went in expecting to enjoy it and like it more than most people.

I didn't have a problem with some of the stuff in the middle when he was being an ass but some of his lines were awful. I guess that's not really the actors fault. But even Big Willy couldn't sell some of that.

I think it would be much better for Captain Boomerang's characterization if he just bolted and never came back. It's not like he did anything noteworthy during the final sequence.

Said this in the other thread, but most of the team felt irrelevant at they end because they weren't meta humans which the movie kept harping on the importance of. Good characters overall but so little to do. Harley fighting a demon witch with a bat? Come on now.

Plot should've been smaller scale- city wide destruction not worldwide. Terror attack that turns citizens into creatures of sorts or something, Squad has to go in and sort it.

Making it a worldwide cataclysm with demon gods was laughable; another sky beam of all things too?

They should have made Katana be part of the special ops team Flagg was running to keep tabs on Enchantress. So she wouldn't feel so forced in. Then at least they would have a sort of history together.

I also can't believe Waller would keep this ancient dangerous artifact unprotected in her house.

Also, the worst use of Sympathy for the Devil I can think of. A little bit of subtlety could go a long way.

I think whether it's a small scale threat or otherwise is less important compared to making it feels like the Squad is truly in over their head fighting truly dangerous adversaries, which the film doesn't manage to do even with the doomsday scenario.

So.... A few questions

What was the squads actual mission supposed to be before Enchantress went crazy and attacked those people in the subway? Like why did Waller assemble them? She kept saying it was 'need to know'

Why did Joker try to kill Harley then change his mind and dive after her? I didn't understand their relationship at all

They had no mission before, it was probably just defend people against any metahuman threat.

That's how it is for them. Joker is like, "poor fool", but then changes his mind realizing he grew to like her and dives with her. He sometimes love her and sometimes doesn't.

It was an okay film. But then again, I think the Transformers films are okay as well, but Suicide Squad wasn't nearly as fun to watch. Will Smith as Deadshot pretty much carried the film for me, Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller were good as well. But the rest of the characters were just "there". They didn't do anything worth mentioning and Slipknot was killed off like KGBeast in Assault on Arkham without doing anything noteworthy. Katana also barely had a character and felt like she didn't have to be in the movie at all. Same with the Joker's involvement in the main plot, which was a minor distraction at best.
