[SPOILER THREAD] X-Men: Apocalypse

He's very Clark Kent-y. Not too Nightcrawler-y. But still really likeable. Honestly, it's a toss-up as to whether Singer is more enamored with his powerset or Quicksilver's.

Fuck, Nightcrawler was pretty much the only reason I wanted to see this. I guess I could still end up liking that interpretation of him.

Nah. Synopsis has a lot of correct stuff in it, but a lot of stuff that isn't. Looks like its from an earlier draft of the script. Things like Scott's demeanor, a while subplot with Stryker and Mystique, that shit aint in there. Scenes are rearranged quite a bit, too.

But there are whole chunks of stuff that are pretty accurate in there. Its just that they're surrounded by a whole bunch of outdated/deleted stuff that doesn't apply anymore

Thats what I thought considering there was no mention of Magneto and Auschwitz

They're not at the mall very long.

Does Jean have any 1-on-1 moments against any of the Horseman, or is her involvement in that battle limited to that one team-up move with Cyke?

She does.

That moment with Cyclops (grabbing his head and aiming for him) doesn't happen. At least I don't remember seeing it. I did go to the bathroom, once. Maybe it happened then. But they were hiding in a helicopter and talking about their feelings at that point already, so I doubt that's when she did it.

Disappointing to hear it's not as good as it could have been. First Class and DOFP were really enjoyable. I will probably still enjoy it though and at least it's nothing like Fantastic 4 levels of bad.

Okay, this movie was already on my radar, but hearing about some of the info in here has intensified the hype.

So, I'm in.

Will never understand how they used apocalypse and not have cable. Cable is literally the coolest guy in the x men franchise yet they left him out.

Cool, thanks :-)

Apocalypse wasn't introduced Co-currently with Cable in the comics either...he butted heads with X-Factor a few times before he even infected baby Nathan with the T-O virus...besides, Cable takes some considerable explanation to be implemented

What "they?" are you talking about? That whatever site you read that coughed up the quote about Storm being less memorable than the Dora Milaje in Civil War?

You should already know not to trust that horseshit.

Actually, Iceman is literally the coolest guy in the franchise.

Damn it. You are completely right. I'm really disappointed about apocalypse being meh because he was so great in other adaptations. Just a powerful dude who has to come accept he rules the world and struggles to understand why people resist this logical outcome.

You and me both. No Cable, no real utilization of Psylocke, Jubilee, and some of the high tier X-Men. Just Wolverine, Mystique, and the same people we saw in the original Fox trilogy.

Are there any large fight scenes in this, like in DoFP where they had to hold off the sentinels and Magneto disassembles the jet to make shrapnel and storm blows up the engine?

For those wondering about the Wolverine's fashion choice:

"He is basically wearing ^^^ . And of course a lot of man hair. Doesn't fully cover his eyes, but definitely a helmet thing."

EDIT: Good point, re: spoilers

You see his bare arm popping claws in the trailer, how could it be anything else?

Saw it today. I'm an old X-men fan, like from 25 years ago. Apocalypse brought loads of warm memories. I really liked it. Good fan service for a guy like me. 4/5

One thing was strange. What the hell happened to Angel in the end? He was all bloodied up and then Singer just forgot he was even there. What happened? :)

Bobby Roberts do they give a good reason Mags would join Apocalypse?

Being a holocaust suvior and his vow "Never again" would be at odds with blue lips "Survival of the fittest, everyone into the genepool"?

It's less about Apocalypse talking Magneto into it and more like Apocalypse taking advantage of Magneto's total lack of fucks for any aspect of humanity at that point in his life.

Like, he's already pretty low, he's interrupted mid-mass murder, and then Apocalypse is "come with me, let me show you something"

And then Magneto's basically like "Fine. Fuck everything."

I got the sense he'd died? That's what I thought.

Sounds like Morrison's Magneto that was doing human ovens for "Reasons"

Kinda. Basically, Kinberg/Singer make him a family man, he saves a dude with his powers, other dudes rat him out like "scary mutant!" so police show up, start some shit, his daughter causes a mutant disturbance, it freaks out one of the cops, who kills both his wife and kid at the same time on accident with a stray shot. So Magneto's like "you're all dead now" and goes back to his job like "one of you ratted on me, and now all of you are going to end today." And that's when Apocalypse shows up.

It only works based on whether you buy Fassbender's performance. It's pretty much the point at which he starts coasting for the rest of the movie, too. He gets all his acting done right up front, Apocalypse comes in, and he just layyyyys back for the rest of the way.

Read the (apparently outdated) synopsis linked above, and it sounded dire. I could only hope that the final movie isn't as terrible.

...please tell me that Jubilee lives, at least. ;_;

Yeah, that synopsis is way outdated. The version of Magneto losing his family is way better than what's in that early version.

Jubilee doesn't die. She doesn't really do anything.
