LS² ... Luke Skywalker Simulation!

LOL

Only a real genius could come up with that.

I see no genius here. Shoulda hired Kojima.

My buddy I was just talking to had a theory that Rey is for sure Lukes daughter. The reason she is on Jakku is because Luke wanted her to have the same surroundings growing up as him so that she turned to the light side the same way he did. Her finding the lightsaber and returning it to him was all part of his plan and part of her training.

He said the Force always will find balance so the reason Kylo turned to the dark side was because Luke had destroyed Vader and Palpatine so the dark side found Kylo to restore that balance. He isolated himself so that the light would guide Rey to him...

I can buy it I suppose.

Remember that part in ANH where Luke grew up without anyone and had to work all day to get a few measly rations, without friends or family, only with the desperate hope that his family would return?
If Luke did that, then fuck him.

Maybe twins, maybe not but theyre brother and sister.

And yes Han knows he has a daughter, as seeing his reaction when she tolds her her name.

Honestly, nothing in the post-Jedi canon EU looks that interesting. I read Shattered Empire but that was pretty much Forrest Gump, Mr and Mrs Dameron Edition.

Its so unbelievably obvious that Ray is Luke's daughter, i'd put good money on Luke having a lover at his jedi temple who was pregnant, and/or recently gave birth and that when fact Ben/Kylo Ren killed all at the temple (it did say killed or did it say wiped out i foget) Luke assumed his family was gone and left.
His lover and child may have been perused by the first order so the mother left Rey on Jacku to be 'safer' and escaped - possibly actually killed by Ren OR she was the one who made the map to Luke

can't believe people think she's going to be a Solo

Yeah, I sort of forgot that after a few minutes.

Another thing I really liked was how dorky Rey and Finn were at times. Also really enjoyed the melee fight between that enhanced Stormtrooper and Finn. He be like: " Come at me, bro."

Absolutely badass.

Stormtroopers were definitely shown to be a more credible threat and to be feared more in this movie. Maybe because it is PG-13?

I like that

Still waiting on BB going "AHHH SENPAI!" on R2 fanart

And didn't realize it has a higher PG rating, that explains the copious amounts of blood.

Lost Stars is the better book but I still enjoyed Aftermath. Don't expect it to have anything to do with the film characters though. Wedge has a small role and there's a brief interlude with Han and Chewie but it's focused on a new set of characters. Same with Lost Stars really but it's an excellent Star Wars book,

How does Luke understand R2-D2?

I might need to watch the other movies again (it's been years), but I always took those scenes to be kind of like how someone talks to their dog. Really, you're talking to yourself and maybe picking up a few context clues, but not really understanding it like a language.

In this movie I kept wondering how the fuck people were actually understanding the robot's language. It seemed very different from how it's been portrayed before.

Speaking of the troopers, I chuckled at when Ren pretty much says the equivalent of "Christ, why aren't we using Clones again?"

Why do we have to assume every Star Wars movie has to be an adventure about a Skywalker?

Rey just as well might be one of the force sensitive students Luke trained. Who knows how young they were when he started training them. Might as well be him who dropped her off.

Imo,
Rey's not a Solo. Leia regretted sending Kylo off to training and wanted him home, they wouldn't have reacted to Rey the way they did if she was their daughter.
Rey's probably not a Kenobi but could be. She seemed younger than Kylo, and I don't think Kenobi's offspring could be younger than Kylo. Hell, having them around the same age is iffy. But I don't know too much about the Star Wars universe, and it's not too impossible, so maybe.
Rey probably was previously raised by Luke. Either as his kid or as a trainee. It's the most obvious answer. This was a very obvious movie. My only problem is his logic behind sending off his kid. If sending their kid off somewhere else fucked up his nephew so much, he'd probably not want to do the exact same thing.

One of the little things that I thought was funny was how everyone else was allowed to be British but John Boyega had to put on an American accent for some strange reason.

Damn it. I need more post OT stuff with the new characters :/..I really like them.

Is someone from Germany reading this? If so did you watch it in German? Today I watched it in English but next week most viewings will be dubbed only..how is the dub?

Excited to see it again tonight. The first time was such a blur. Like I wasn't ready for that vision flashback thingy and it took me off guard. I always love rewatches more as you can digest things better, pay attention to more details and generally get a better grasp on what you think overall.

So funny you say that.

I bough star wars shirts for everyone in my family and mine was kylo ren.

After I found out what he did to han Solo I put the shirt back in the Walmart bag and I'm returning it tomorrow lol

Don't forget to tell Walmart that you return it because he kill Han Solo!

lol

On the Graham Norton show last night, he said they tried it with his British accent first but it just wasn't working.

That trooper knew who he was. He called him a traitor. I would have liked a scene before Finn goes to save Poe where he's talking to this trooper he winds up fighting, expressing doubt of being a Stormtrooper. This dude would be all "nah" and then want to fight him later for being a traitor.

Agree.

The movie needed a bit more breathing room and adding some scenes like that would've helped.

Han's tragic mind set should've had a scene dedicated to it to make the outcome way more tragic. Something like Solo finding on the Falcon an old photo of him, Leia and Ben in happier times to contrast his fall back into doing mercenary work trying to survive day to day. It felt too straight forward. Especially with Han wanting Rey by his side to fill the void Ben left.

Also, I know the Death Star was just a Macguffin to help drive the story but showing how dangerous and terrifying it is instead of relying on the audience knowing about the other ones. There was just one reaction shot of the people on that planet to emotionally cling on to. That and the tension of it being ready to fire. It was missing a few beats here and there for the momentum of the climax to reach its peak.

But I guess they wanted to put emphasis on Solo's final moment.

Really well done but there's some problems with the story here and there that are missing some beats to make them fully work.

Rey should be from a new family and was given to Luke to train as she was strong with the force. When Kylo went on his rampage at Luke's academy, Luke or someone took her there to hide her from Kylo and co.

I really liked the dub, although a few minor things (like the Kessel run) always sound a bit funny in German. I think others from DeutschGAF were less enthusiastic about it though.

Captain Phasma was turned into the Johnny Sasaki of Star Wars in this movie. They might as well have a scene in the next movie where she goes to confront the heroes but flees because she has explosive diarrhea.

I love it. They deliberately fucked with the fools who line up to buy toys for a film they haven't seen; who turn characters they know nothing about into their forum avatars. Because these fools sat their in their bedrooms with the toys, playing out stories in which Phasma is some sort of bad ass, they're broken by the fact that she's a stupid silver stormtrooper.

I imagine that with the amount of droids in that universe, they all share some basic rudimentary programmed language that everyone knows. Really, it's not something that needs to be explained. It's something you just accept cause it makes the droids cooler in this swashbuckling space fantasy.

Because they already confirmed Star Wars is a generational story about the Skywalkers. So Rey being one fits too well.

I got a feeling that when Luke was training Ben, that when they turned to the dark side, that Kylo killed Luke's wife among others and that's what lead him to dropping off Rey because he feared that Kylo would try and find her and kill her as well.

Yeah HOW DARE THEY like an interesting character design?!

Ew gross fuck no kill it with FIRE. Ford's expressions were plenty as well as the conversations with Leia. More than that would have felt like a Lifetime family drama. Nah the actors sold that enough IMO. I know what you're trying to say and it was a quick example, but I'm glad it wasn't overdone.
