Great episode! I foresee more converts to Team Ohana today.

You can really see that the strength of this show is gonna be the characterization. While I didn't really like the main story for the episode, the side touches with the characters and how Ohana is getting to know everyone was great.

I posted more detailed impressions in the OT. I'm not sure how this works, really. I've technically double posted on the same episode with 2 writeups. But whatever, this is HanaIro. I'd write more if I could/would.

Q didn't say that he was going to rewrite the laws of physics with magic, he said he was going to create energy (which is impossible within the laws of physics, but understandable because MAGIC!). It's what he needed the energy for that was stupid. The universe doesn't "LOSE" energy in entropy, energy cannot be lost! And yet, the death of the universe is coming because the universe is losing energy in entropy. This is bad science. This is bad science without any magic being involved. It's not "oh, we need to use magic to create the energy that the magical space vortex is eating up" it's just "matter in the universe is degrading and energy is being lost so we're using magic to fix that".

Scale doesn't matter, neither does magic, because that's its own, fully fluid narrative system and comes AFTER the "problem". It's just hack writing, and it's not very hard to see why it sucks.

Didn't like it at all. Was struggling to stay interested after 6 minutes or so. The premise is unappealing to me, and the designs look kinda bad. I don't think there's anything wrong with the direction or the writing, it just doesn't keep me interested in the subject and I find Menma very annoying. Will not watch more.

Wow, I'm looking at the chart for Winter 2010/11 and I have yet to finish any of the TV shows. I'll definitely finish Madoka Magica when they release the final eps, and maybe make it through Gosick, Level E and Freezing.. but for now I'm addicted to the Black Jack OVAs. I always meant to check them out after being a longtime AWO listener and was not disappointed.

I can see lots of unnecessary innuendo, sex joke teases, accidental perversion and fanservice awkward moments ending in either TRU LUV END(tm) or ridiculous reverse harem of silliness if they want to be fresh and not have that predictable end. Tsunderes make it SO easy to predict the plot.

Another strong episode. The concept of messing up at a new job and wanting to prove yourself is pretty universal, so I feel like this can speak to a lot of people's personal experiences. We also get more insight into Ohana's family life and why she acts the way that she does. I'm definitely interested in seeing where the show goes from here.

So I watched a bit of We, Without Wings - Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai episode 1 on crunchyroll just to see if it's really as gross as has been said, and it is, and I've decided that I can't take anymore than about ten minutes borderline animated child (? I'm sure they're really 18 year olds hrrrrr) pornography even for "irony's sake," besides that I feel gross just for typing that out. This kind of shit is, rather unbelievably, picked up for streaming, while no one in the US will ever touch something like Dennou Coil or Mononoke or what have you. These are the times that anime and its audience makes me want to throw up a little.

I just thought they were exaggerating on the ANN cast, but I guess not? Holy crap.

Apparently the actual beginning is rushed through quickly at the end of the first episode and the rest of it is made up. The living with semen thing is brushed over quickly and it becomes more of a family comedy thing with a bit of fan service.
