The Light of El Cantare
Space Bros 02:

So, so very good. Mutta is wonderfully human and his outlook, aspirations, and quirks permeate his behavior believably and consistently. He's an actual character, which has been so important to making the show feel convincingly grounded in real life and populated by (relatively) normal people. It's only been two episodes, and already Mutta's journey has been incredibly touching. Mutta's brushes with his own lost childhood (such as
hearing the recording of himself playing Danny Boy on the trumpet
) surprise me in how much I'm able to empathize with his nostalgia. They seem to tap into every adult's wish to relive the optimism of their youth.

My one very small criticism with this episode was the revelation that
the loose screw in the interview chair was intentionally placed there as a test by one of the JAXA officials
. I thought that Mutta's fear and insecurity over
realizing that he had fidgeted with the screw fro the entire interview
was really relatable, and I didn't like that it suddenly became something positive that
actually increased Mutta's chances of acceptance
. I would have preferred that it remained an offhand thought that Mutta dwells on due to his fear of rejection.

The facial expressions the characters make in this show are so damn hilarious. I love how Nobuko can hate on Kotobuki for being cute but instantly becomes buddies with her the moment she's complimented on her bracelet. Ha!

You better act fast Koizumi!

kuroko's Basketball 2

Oooh some nice details in animations.

So I guess this won't just be your typical slideshow sports anime.

And the soundtrack is addicting.

where else but the darkest depths of humanity.
I actually added it to my backlog when icarus was watching it. I just waited for the right time to strike.

Heck, icarus was late to the party. We all suffered through it months ago!

Yeah, that was quite silly, in retrospect, cause, tbch, I didn't at all notice them missing when watching through it the first time, lol. I was caught up in the moment, completely. But, kind of like I touched on in the the reply to Jex though, I do think the next major arc is going to be the MASSIVE one we're all hoping for. Just by it being Takasugi and Kamui in the helm, and what was done in T4D arc, I'm thinking some of that ever elusive history will probably be probed, at the least, and not just for Gin, but Kagura--who hasn't seen any exploring since Yoshiwara.
I dunno, there are really two massive arcs that they can do - the White Yaksha and the final battle. I'm sure this will be big, but I can't imagine it'll involve every single cast member...

Is there any talk of a 3rd season?
Naw. Then again, once you have the main couple together, I'm sure interest has dried up. Certainly you'd have to be more hardcore to want to see what happens to the other characters.

Four seasons? Sign me up!

My backlog is crying. Isn't Marimite like 5 seasons long?
Actually, it's 3 seasons and one OVA season!

Lupin the 3rd: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine 1:
Hot.

This show has style like nothing else, and the characters are both familiar, but new. I love seeing these characters when they're meeting for the first time, and it's a very different take on the Lupin franchise than anything in the past 30 years. The cat and mouse games were excellent, and I look forward to seeing much more of these antics over the next few months.

I agree.

I should've known something was up with Kotobuki! Otoni seemed so distraught when the shirt was off lol. At least this gave Koizumi the courage to be more open with herself, hopefully this will lead to some solid development over the next few eps.

Ricks Bread 01

Everybody wants a piece of Rick's Bread.
Except Alvin. I bet he has bread envy.

Elves are known for their petite, rather underwhelming bread. Why do you think Alvin's sister wanted Rick's bread inside of her the second she saw him? Her body was literally crying out for it.

Same here.

I was also a bit annoyed by
the good old "oh, Mutta is interacting with two new characters! I don't know those two, but somehow I don't expect them to be rejected at this stage! call it a gut feeling!"
... Especially considering the JAXA guy explains the screw was a test, and wouldn't you know: as it happens, three applicants noticed it! Gee, I wonder who those were!

Not a big deal (yet?), of course. I guess it bothered me all the more because I like what I'm seeing so far, and I kinda wish the show were above that kind of stuff...

I dunno, going from the 'Thorn & Rose' arc, the shinsengumi will be involved, heavily, and Takasugi being in pretty much means that they're going to play past-parallels and bring Zura in--as they did in the Benizakura, maybe even Sakamoto. I'd put money on the cast being huge.

Simply knowing the basic premise of the latest manga arc is getting me hyped for it. I have to hold myself back from looking in any greater detail.

For those interested, it is called the
Shogun Assassination
arc. The long wait to see what Sorachi has in store continues (and no doubt the treat of glorious
Wakamoto
).

Oh shit. Wow. Yeah, this is going to be huge. I'm so hyped.

I dropped it and wrote those huge writeups as to why I think it's not good and why I don't enjoy it at all.

However, we are saved by our savior New Spring Anime in the year A.D. 2012, who has come to redeem anime for all humanity. Ammmeeennnuuuu!

It certainly seemed pretty clumsy. Way to telegraph future developments in the most obvious of manners!

I'm not sure what you wanted instead, unless it was for Mutta to remain completely alone at JAXA. I thought it was a pretty good way to introduce new recurring characters.
I liked the connection the screw bit drew between Mutta and his childhood hero Mouri - it's a nice continuation of the theme of "destiny" that was introduced at their one meeting.

So I'm not alone in my like of Moeretsu Pirates? Yay!It's the only show I've carried over from last season.

Of course you aren't alone. the show is excellent. It has Chiaki Okigawa AND Kana Hanazawa in it. My God.

Yes. Acchi Kocchi and Tsuritama will save anime this season.

The other thing I love about Lovely Complex are the constant wardrobe changes. It's almost like they are actually characters!

Casual anime watchers killing anime.

Tomodachi wa Mahou
Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou wa Mahou 20

This episode focuses on the two ponies I like the least, Fluttershy and Rarity which would normally be a recipe for disaster but the episode is salvaged by the hilarious antics of both Twilight and Pinkie Pie, combining to give some pretty enjoyable moments FOREVER.

Rarity gets so salty when she's under stress. She is going to develop some nasty wrinkles. Poor Spike doesn't know what's in store for him and the cat is finally out of the bag that he has a crush on Rarity (lol). Twilight is such an adorable gossip girl. She really can't keep a secret but she was trying her hardest mainly because Pinkie Pie was going to eat her head off if she didn't.

The rest of the episode outside I didn't really enjoy. I really don't find the fashion model stuff interesting at all, and they've been going with that theme for way too many episodes with Hoity Toity and now Photo Finish.

Upotte! 2

The amount of research that went into this is impressive. I'm learning a lot more about guns than I expected to. This makes me want to play Valkyria Chronicles.

Eru needs to stop sucking.

Waiting for doomed's review before deciding if I'll look at Upotte!! Episode 2 or not.

Hopefully, there'll be more to read through it than bias towards Eru's antics!

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
You know what I want?

A diorama featuring the dream cityscape from MGX with Urabe and Tsubaki figures on top of one of the buildings.

I think it could be really good if done right.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito 01:

KlfNc.jpg

Wha? Maybe if you fried him...

Yuri = good.

Shaky cam = bad.

Random timeskips, dorama,
rejected confessions
,
surprise freakouts at seeing your yuri lover in the bath
, and
really meaningful sign language
= lol.

I feel kind of cheated that the yuri
only lasted a few minutes
, but this bizarre new world of
trains and bombs and poorly-disguised spies
will hopefully be a fertile ground from which many incomprehensible things will spring.

I expect great things from the guy with the twitchy eye after
tearing a girl's clothes off just because. A FEMALE DIPLOMAT DRESSING IN A NOT-ENTIRELY-FEMININE WAY? IMMA STRIP YOU BITCH
.

All I really want to know at this point is how the fuck I'm supposed to endure looking at that hat for the next 12 episodes. I woke up with a sore neck today and looking at that monstrosity is making it worse.

This is the story of sisterly love, a motherfucking hat, and a train.

THE MOTHERFUCKING HAT

The screenshaking in the first half of the episode was really annoying, I hope it won't appear again.

QaRtf.jpg

Deen art was on maximum, but I must say, the setting so far... isn't really that bad. And that one girl has some delicious sarashi, which is always a plus.

aeOoW.jpg

Stop stealing my favorite cheesy lines, dammit.

A few too many characters were introduced in this episode, so there really wasn't much time to figure out anything about them other than that some of them want to blow up the train, some want to protect it, and Yami is on a mission to find her beloved onee-chan~
