It's pretty obvious that the Kizumonogatari movie will be the final entry of the Monogatari series.
And that's most likely more a decision of Aniplex/Kodansha than Shaft. You don't produce 41 episodes based on the other novels if you have any kind of production problems.

Yeah, I'm just poking fun at Shaft because of its reputation and because the Negima movie was (apparently) not very good and seemingly rushed. If Kizu is the last entry in the series, do you think the movie will start airing in Japan after the TV series is over? I think one of the anime charts I read said the new "second season" is two cours, so that would mean at least Winter 2014, right?

You should watch Naruto SD it has one of the best 10+ minutes in the whole franchise.

Ep 51 is still memorable to this day.

Wow, that's Naruto SD? They have put more effort into that sequence than several episodes of the main one, combined.

Well, yes, but you could pick one of the "good" sequences from mainstream Naruto (the infamous Norio Wakamoto ep, for one) and that would have more effort put into it than most eps of Naruto SD, surely?

I don't remember that fight from the Cowboy Bebop movie...

Can anyone think of any other examples of cloned animation? For some reason there's something in my head about Anno reusing animation from Nadia in Evangelion, but the only reference I can find to something similar is him reusing key animation from Macross in Otaku no Video as suggested here.

EDIT to avoid double-posting:

Thanks for the link - that's definitely a good cut, although you're right it's a pretty ridiculous idea...

I haven't watched any Naruto in years - I don't remember it looking so flat and dull back in the early 00s, although I guess it probably did.

Rewatching Utena right now, and then will watch the movie for the first time after.

Episode 1

A good episode. Did a decent enough job introducing the main set of characters and their personality quirks. One thing I am slightly confused about is Wakaya's love letter. I seem to recall that it is later revealed that Himemiya intentionally placed it on the wall. However, Saionji in this episode acts like it was his idea to post it. I'm guessing that was just Saionji being Saionji, or am I misremembering?
Anthy has nothing to do with the letter.

Funny thing is that when I searched up Naruto SD on youtube, the first thing that popped up was "Naruto SD Episode 51." I guess that episode is pretty memorable.

Also I found this scene with Pain. That scene makes me want to start watching it too lol.

EDIT: Holy crap this show is funnier then I thought. They have Orochimaru searching Google on here as well. Is this show supposed to be mainly poking fun at Naruto and its stereotypes about its characters or something? Forget about thinking about watching this, I am going to watch this.

I think it's completely unlikely to see two movies by Shaft in the same year.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kizumonogtari after S3 in 20XX.

Japanese navy witches wear school swimsuits (navy -> water -> swimsuits), so it would make sense if swimsuits are also part of the sailor fuku.
I mean, even the normal school she was on before! And I take it they don't bother explaining the later then.

Let me put it more this way:

Utena is successful at what it sets out to do. It might be crazy, but it's a deliberate and intentional crazy. List Shows more or less fail at what they set out to do but end up succeeding in an unintentional way. Arjuna isn't a good lecture on environmentalism. Garzey's Wing is not coherent or well acted. Happy Science isn't that inspirational. Code Geass doesn't actually have a believable story with its constant twists. In any other kind of work, it would detract from the experience, but in this case it helps make them entertaining in a new way.

I mean, I get where you're coming from, but it's kind of different from what we're going for.

Ah, I knew I was missing something. Thanks for clearing that up.

And guess who worked on those Outer Senshi bank transformation scenes? As a director and uncredited key animator, and apparently he was interested on doing it for free in exchange of illustrations of the protagonists made by the very same Shinya Hasegawa!

Ah, that's neat. Getting more familiar with different people it's interesting to find out who worked on what as far as some slightly older shows that I've actually seen.

I just found out about some OVA called Area 88 and thought it was based off of some old computer game I have. The game is actually called Zone 66 but from there I found out that Epic MegaGames, now known as the famous Epic Games, was the publisher. They're also the publisher for another game called One Must Fall which I played and apparently both games share the same composer.

I thought it was kind of interesting to find this stuff out anyway. Thanks for your information as always /XX/. :)

How I pity your type and their lack of an insatiable need to catalog and quantify every last detail of their hobby.

Thinking about it and I believe Anime is the only hobby where I've actually written down and kind of categorized what I've seen and what I would like to see.

I don't do that with other shows or anything. The only other thing would maybe be jotting down the odd video game to remind myself of it if it's a more niche title. With me more of the ones I'm interested in usually are.

Uncensored last episode of To Love-Ru Darkness is basically porn

It seems to think I'm Jexhius.

Haha, maybe. I was thinking maybe more Narag or EmmanuelMunoz with all the older and maybe more obscure shows they have gone through.

I'd say School Days and Blood C basically do exactly what they set out to do. I generally agree but I think it's a bit more than that.

Normally, I'd be concerned to see four young girls go on a trip with a mysterious man, but this is a kids show. Anyway, some pretty good world building and backstory, and hopefully, next episode will push the plot forward, seeing as
all the crystals are on the line

Yeah thats the episode I need to watch:

I know right I thought the show was for kids but its like a spoof of the Naruto series.

Wow if only the real Naruto was a quarter as good as that scene I might have still been watching it.

Most of the canon fights are better than that though I have to admit the Naruto fights were better animated.

Naruto vs Sasuke, and Rock Lee vs Gaara still are some of the best fights in anime.

Well it was the episode where they spent most of their leftover budget on and it shows.

Show's still pretty funny though.

No, you're right, and I was thinking about how to account for that but it wasn't entirely necessary to say why Utena is not such a show.

I'm envious of anyone that has that much time.

It's because I don't have all the time in the world or can't always be by a computer that I'm consistently 40-60 pages behind. The thread at times can go through about 20 pages in about 24 hours and if you're doing other things it's really easy to get behind really quickly.

I stopped reading every post, otherwise I'd probably be 200+ pages behind at this point, I do go through every page though just in case /XX/ has some interesting information, Articalys has posted some news that interests me or things like staff talk between 7Th and duckroll. Just different things like becoming aware of shows that might looks interesting that I wasn't aware of. 7Th posted a trailer to a recent Doraemon movie which looked like I might want to give a watch for example.

You haven't seen Jexhius pimping 20s/30s anime before? For shame!

I remember him posting impressions about a show called Marco or 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother which I believe is from the seventies and other maybe more famous works such as some Gundam and Legend of the Galactic Heroes and others from around that time period.

I must have forgotten about the earlier ones from the 20s and 30s though.

You still got to admit Arti, for someone who keeps on claiming to not wanting to have to deal with shit here you sure do have a tendency to keep coming back every time to keep on dealing with shit here.

You gotta do what you gotta do I guess. I do hope you're around to do the poll thing, mainly because the rest of us are lazy fucks who are unlikely to get any shit done.

Arti just cant quit us heehee.

Date a Live 10

Poor Tohka got snubbed in this ep :( she's still my favorite though. Oragami moved up the ranks a bit with her extended screen time and looks like they've setup some future conflict. How many episodes are left in this season? 2?

2 episodes :(
Really wish it was longer.

Why does Origami want the protags dick again?

I feel I like miss/forgot about somethign.

Because he is the harem protagonist.
its really that simple!

Gargantia should have looked like this instead.

Hey guys, I'm (obviously) new to the site, and I'm also fairly inexperienced with current anime. This thread doesn't seem to be a thread for recommendations, so I don't want to go off-topic, but I would like to know a good place to go for anime recommendations. Thank you in advance for any advice.

It's generally a good idea to check the Anime of the Year threads.

2010
2011
2012

If you could hit us up with the genres you like we can be more precise.

Nah you came to the right place for such a thing. There are, however, several good threads on Gaf designed to help with this.
What sorts of shows do you enjoy already?

Thank you for the response! My favorites are:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Serial Experiments: Lain
Ghost in the Shell (1 & 2)
Akira

I like shows/movies that are fairly serious in tone, along with being thought provoking.
