Neon Genesis Evangelion 23-26 END

Evangelion is a series that I've been trying to watch for literally years, but never seemed to actually reach the end of. Immediately after catching up on the ~Monogataris, I finally got around to watching these last three episodes. I already had a fairly clear picture of how the series ended due to internet osmosis, so it was something of a surreal experience (well, more surreal than it would be anyway) actually watching these last few episodes at last - they felt at once incredibly familiar and yet new at the same time. But at least now I know where the "Omedetou" meme comes from!

On a side note, I still haven't got around to watching End of Eva (or the Rebuild movies, lol). I should probably do that at some point.

Jex is right. watch End of Evangelion. Then rebuild.

Also, congratulations!

I was aware of some of these links, but not of others, so thank you for pointing them out. The Acephalous blog is insanely detailed.

Yeah, he's pretty great. His post on Nausicaa can be found here.

He even looks beyond film and explains how the language of comic books work as well his Watchmen stuff is excellent, see here.

For fuck's sake people...

DO NOT WATCH MAX HEART. PRETEND IT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST.

Enough people have suffered. Don't add yourself to the body count.

Hey peeps.

So I grabbed RE: Cyborg 009 on BD today. I ended up getting the super nice set because it wasn't that much more expensive than the barebones, awful looking standard BD.

I've heard some really weird stuff about this movie, so I'm looking forward to checking it out. The 2 production books it comes with are filled with cool concept art and interviews too. It's a really nice set.

Not enough.

....He should like... do a simulwatch or something with someone who has already watched it at least.

It feels so unnatural to see a new person in the thread who already knows about THE LIST. It's a reminder that people are always out there, silently watching our every move, waiting, taking notes, biding their time.

Well, the view count for this thread has always, always been far higher than the number of replies. I don't actually know that means in real terms but it seems to suggest that there are plenty of lurkers who follow the thread as well (although I do wonder how that's possible considering the pace at which it moves).

Incidentally, on the List I note that you mention Baoh, but not specifically the dub. It must be the dub.

I didn't even bother taking screencaps. That's how enthusiastic I am about
Shiny Luminous' grand debut.

Granted, half of those views are probably just from cajunator and kirbyguy refreshing the thread every sixty seconds.

You know, I don't like Xellos as much as I do Gourry or Zel, but Xellos is such a comical character its hard not to enjoy him. The way he pops up and vanishes at just the right moments, always being cheerful while being completely useless and straightforward about how awful the situation is. Xellos is the character that Fire Emblem Awakening's Henry tries to be, and fails miserably. Okay probably not, but I can't resist telling you all how much I hate Henry's rat bastard guts.

Anyway, Xellos is a funny guy. And Martina develops a crush on Gourry this episode, while Lina angsts over cup size.

So about the latest Valvrave...

Did I just witness L-elf
launch in one of those cool-but-useless ARUS fighers and proceed to be cool and not useless in it?

That's like putting Amuro in a Ball!

I'm also hoping that Saki doesn't turn into a punching bag (to be rescued by Haruto/new Valvrave pilot of the week) every episode that there's a Dorssian attack. Saki in a Valvrave is simply glorious - it's like putting Flay Allster in Strike Rouge, or Sheryl becoming an ace that one time she flies in a VF.

I was reading his Mad Men entries this afternoon (especially ones heavily regarding editing). It's always insightful reading new perspectives on Don's destitution in defining traits of humanity.

Attack on Titan 4:
Much stronger episode this time, as the characterizations for everyone felt strong, and we also saw people progressing in a believable manner. Anne is awesome, and Reiner is a true bro. Their instructor also acts with the typical drill sergeant bluster, but internally is being extremely analytical about everything. I thought that was a nice touch.

Eren is able to also reflect on how obnoxious he was a couple of episodes ago, and
takes down his adversary rather than getting drawn into a shouting match
, although then he goes and gives a kind of over the top speech later on. Still, we see more maturity from him here, and the ending to this episode sets us up for some new traumas for everyone to experience.

Every thread has more views than replies.

I don't think views quite work that way, but I know quite a few times I check the thread and don't post anything for whatever reason.

Oh yes, his post about a recent episode of Game of Thrones is pretty great. Maybe firehawk would be interested in some of the discussion.

Being thrown under the bus isn't very pleasent.

It's just more accurate terminology!

I know it's shit but still. Not something I want to say for something I did in 2 days

Context from which to enjoy all the Shiny Luminous derivative material, maybe!

Maybe. Although it's not like we take time to throw dirt at her when we please.

This needs to replace 'marathoning'. We need to bring poopsocking back to the people.

I have technical questions about this term but I quickly realized that I really don't want answers to these questions so let's simply leave it at that.

Subete no aware
Definitely. This is some next-gen level of clouds/scenery porn. I don't know the exact wizardy for it, but I want more anime to look like that.
I think if all anime looked like this, anime seasons would be reduced to like 1 episode a season. lol

Garden of Words

It didn't really hit the emotional high of 5cm/s, but it was still great.
The music montage in this one was way weaker, don't think I will even bother with listening to the song that much again. Also regarding the final scene, I'm not really a fan of the execution or all the nonsense the MC was yelling about. I still cried in the end so I guess it all worked out?

I don't really remember 5cm/s, but I want to say it's a lot more subtle rather than less emotional. I can see why the climax wouldn't hit as hard, but I would say that's why it feels more realistic.

You mean the after-credits scene? What was he saying there, actually?

cnet is the new A Black Falcon.

So jealous that you got to watch Utena and Eva for the first time, btw.
You could watch Utena for me!

This needs to replace 'marathoning'. We need to bring poopsocking back to the people.
Whatever happened to poopsocking anyway?

Because that would be too easy.

It's not like they remember they can go places either.

The cast is pretty much Yes! 5 but dumber and yet much better at the same time.

Anyway, surprisingly I did not think of that myself. It's weird.

Yeah, that library to anywhere kind of killed some tension in 2 particular episodes. The April Fools one, and Beauty's kickass fight episode. But did the writers even REMEMBER the library existed after their super trip around the world?

Mars of Destruction
I'm not sure why I never watched this before, but it was quality entertainment. It definitely has earned its spot on the list. We need more parodies like this.

I actually had a very similar experience with Eva! As others have said, to drive the point home, watch End of Evangelion. It's the beautiful bow that wraps the whole present together. I'd like to know how you feel about the series after that.

ZZ Gundam 24

It's sort of depressing to know that even in the future bigger powers are using Africa as their own personal stomping grounds. It makes sense, but is still depressing.

Also, can anyone who knows UC Gundam explain: After Zeta Gundam, did the Titans just collapse altogether, or are they just a severely weakened force? If the former, does that mean the AEUG took control of the Earth?

You know, every woman/girl who met Kamille fell in love with him. Dude had a girlfriend on every colony. JUDAU, on the other hand, has a little sister everywhere he goes. Anna's what, his third? Fourth?

I totally have no idea what is coming next. None at all. This is so unlike a previous Precure series. Yup.
