Okay, so I'm nearly done with both Acchi Kocchi and Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb. Once I finish them, I'm thinking about going for A-Channel and GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class. Because apparently I have to watch everything adapted from a Manga Time Kirara yonkoma. Or something.

Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on those two shows?
They're both fine. GA is more focused on the actual art though and A-Channel is your generic 4 girl anime thing.

A channel is pretty cute and pointless like GJ BU.

This is even funnier imagining the animated scene in my head.

oh hey welcome back!

Hmmm...I was afraid of that, with GA. I tried watching the first few minutes of the first episode a month or two ago and thought it was a bit boring. Hrm. Maybe I'll go for something else instead. Not like I don't have a huge backlog of stuff I want to watch, plus the Spring season stuff too.

I'm in.

Really enjoying GJ Bu. I'll roll this and Polar Bear as my 'relax' animes while I cycle through some story animez.

GJ-Bu was my surprise of the Winter season. So good.

One thing that's making me a bit sad lately is that there's almost assuredly not going to be another full Hidamari Sketch series until 2014. I'm actually going to miss these characters. =/ That's why I've been purposely going through these last few episodes of Honeycomb really slowly, instead of one a day like I'd planned. Sure, we'll probably get the Sae/Hiro thing this year, but I'll be shocked if that's anything more than an OVA, or MAYBE two episodes like SP was.

I'm almost certain that Hidamari won't stop until Yuno and Miyako graduate, though, so I'm sure we'll get another full season eventually (again, probably in 2014). How they handle Nori and Nazuna's story from there, though, I'm not sure. Maybe a flash-forward?

Stupid funimation. Got my hopes up that they had a bunch of their stuff on their youtube channel for free (that I couldn't find on CR) but it's all either region locked or rental stuff. Blargh!

That's because the connotation of the actual meaning of technobabble is negative. The wording itself is loaded and is inherently a negative.

Dunno, I think you're getting away from your initial assertion. It's a portmanteau, it only has the connotations of its associations.

Can it be manipulated into being a positive by somehow reflecting that the characters inside the work don't understand what is going on as well as the readers themselves? Sure

And there we go. I don't think it's restricted to such usage, though.

but then it borders on parody or satire, either way there is a heavy element of self-awareness.

I guess this is where the disagreement then shifts to. I don't think it needs to dip into pastiche or irony for it to be used successfully - I'd say it depends on intent, which would at least tie into self-awareness.

Actually, are you sure it's not jargon they're using compared to technobabble?

A glance at the text might suggest so, but the things they deal with - and the way it's employed - certainly suggests 'technobabble' more than anything else. Jargon implies understanding from the characters.

The thing is that the Star Trek: TNG writers used "technobabble" as shorthand for "bullshit". Their drafts literally had "insert technobabble here" in between real lines of dialog. That's probably where its negative connotations come from.

Shit A Live 2

I literally thought this show couldn't get worse but apparently it's possible. It's unfathomable how something like this can fucking exist. Firehawk12 calls SAO the worst anime show on the planet or w/e but this show makes SAO look like a fucking godsend. There's pandering. Then there's insulting the intelligence of the audience. This shittastic of a fucking show takes that to another level by making you so dropdead brainless in watching this show you have to wonder if you actually wasted time watching it or not. Oh wait. I did waste it. Fuck this show.

EDIT: The only redeeming elements in this show are the character designs for the heterochromia girl and the main girl and the fight scene in the OP. That's fucking it.

Sorry, this show is better than SAO.

No way. How is this show better than SAO. I can't see any redeeming element in the show other than what I posted above. It's a horrendous show that has horrible characters who does horrible shit with a premise that isn't even remotely interesting and a problem/solution that is laughable AT BEST.

Because it doesn't trawl the depths of human sadness and pathos for profit. I suppose it is relative. Date A Live reminds me that humanity is doomed. SAO makes me wish humanity never existed.

Date A Live makes me wish humanity never existed. It's fucking vitriol and vile shit. It must've spawned from the deepest pits of anime hell. Something that spawns once in a century or some shit. SAO makes me realize that online games are cool but crazy shit is always bound to happen. In this show it makes me realize what people's perception of dating are and how other save the world shenanigans are absolutely viable in doing so. Fuck it all.

[kayos]What?[/kayos]

Maybe not life threatening problems but there are always technical problems in games. That's what I'm referring to. The stupid haxor powers that Kirito has aside, it's a simple quest of a hero trying to save people. Date A Live is similar except it completely shits on an aspect of many youth's life: dating.

You might as well add: "the love sick harem, incestuous cousin, creepy raper dude/revenge fantasy and generally improbable premise aside" and just excuse everything else wrong with the show.

Putting aside the silly light show at the start, this was really good, and having a Sugitabot is cheating in terms of keeping my interest.

I'll give you the rape part but the harem was practically non-existent since they focused on one pairing. Not only that but the other girls didn't even bother showing up ever after their introduction. I guess if we're talking about improbable premise then you can just discount almost all anime shows. It's not a matter of probability but if it's interesting or not.

EDIT: I'm going to give this show one more episode. One more since I assume that's when this arc will wrap up. Plus the three-episode rule.

Well, it reads as though Date A Live is fairly similar, except not set in online games.

Love sick harem = multiple girls that the lead has to make fall in love with him
Incestuous cousin = (presumably) incestuous foster sister (why else would the lead HAVE a foster sister? It's a light novel adaptation!)
Creepy raper dude/revenge fantasy = too soon to tell...
Generally improbable premise = anime, duh

I can't comment on anyone's distaste for either story as I've seen one episode of SAO and none of Date A Live. They seem fairly similar in premise, though.

Whoa dude, seriously?

SAO tries to take itself seriously while trying to be deep and philosophical all the while sandwiching coma rape, tentacle porn, cousincest, sympathizing with a mass murderer etc etc inbetween.

SAO's premise is not based around a harem, Date a Live is.

I feel like I've written and expended all the energy I ever could on SAO and it's terribleness.

This is a start, but there's the fact that SAO basically empowers nerd fantasies to the point that it really is despicable. It's the equivalent of trying to trick people to smoke by having pretty models smoking cigarettes on those old ads. Never mind the fact that they cause cancer.

At least in every other harem, the dude has to talk to a physical girl in order to make her drop her pantsu on sight. In SAO, all that happens over their version of Xbox Live.

It was actually pushing 1USD = 99.21JPY shortly ago.

I don't even have time to be mad about SAO hate right now.

For the first time in almost four years, one U.S. cent could be worth more than one yen.

Yep, even the weak ass British Pound Sterling is doing better against it. Good thing to as I have an order coming up at the end of this month.

If the people can see, hear, and feel each other, can't leave when its convenient, communicate exactly as they would in reality, and die when they are killed, how are relationships formed in SAO's virtual world different from those formed in reality?

I mean, at this point I'm pretty sure I'm not going to convince you of anything, but I don't see how SAO's panderfest is any different from any other panderfest. A fairly significant portion of the anime industry is built around creating these cute nerd fantasy girls who can exist in the minds of viewers as 'safe' objects of desire who will never hurt them. I don't see how SAO is any more egregious just because it's primarily set in an in-fiction virtual space.

It aggravates my escapism-idealism nerves for some reason, and I've only seen the first episode

Bodacious Space Pirates 04

Finally! Some hardcore space ACTION! Detailed discussions about radar scanning, IFF transponders and gravity wave signals is what I crave! Also cute schoolgirls running battleships, that's good too.

Lol their computer has enough memory to make a spoof system to redirect hacking attacks to. That's insane.

Awesome 2nd half, but I want to throw up at the 1st half.. The CGI are fucking horrible, Its certainly the worst so far unless Valvrave gonna outdoes it at ugliness.

And its certainly deliver at :chet department. dayum.

I need to hunt the chara designer previous "work".

I have to say, I fucking love Bodacious Space Pirate's OP. But fucking crunchyroll is lagging like a shitcan on 720p for some goddamn reason.

Damn this is like moe FTL. Also a little like Girls und Panzer just because of the massive schoolgirl cast. A hell of a lot longer to get the point though, but now that we're there it's really hella exciting!

God damn, this is the most exciting hacking I've ever seen.
