I am really, really impressed with the art in Gargantia, Attack on Titan and Aku no Hana (backgrounds). Oreimo 2 pales in comparison though it is just fine.

Have you watched Fullmetal Alchemist The Sacred Star of Milos? It's by the director of Gargantia, and the art is also pretty stunning. Really nice fire/smoke effects, city layouts, etc.

The studio working on the backgrounds for Aku no Hana is Studio Pablo, and they previously worked on Sengoku Collection and Penguindrum. You can check out their background art selection here: http://studio-pablo.com/garelly.html

It's the part no one cares about! I blame the adult fans and their need to be pandered to. Can't just have a monster of a week, nope, gotta have rape and incest.

Well that might be the case but considering how offensive it is I don't want to just hand-waive it away.

Also, maybe this is one of the best arguments against the OVA format. Perhaps sometimes animators need to be retrained!

Hmm. It reminds me of some YA novels I've read in how painfully sincere the characters are about their nihilism.
I think that what sets Aku no Hana apart is that it acknowledges that Kasuga isn't deep or intelligent, he's just a reject --
like that part where he admits he doesn't understand what he reads, he's just intoxicated by the act of reading it.

No I haven't watched that.

Checking out the gallery, thanks.

Eh, I'm with you on that. TV series had this charm to it derived from its purity that's lost in the OVAs.

I don't think Milos was really "different" though. It's definitely a story which tackles all the same themes which FMA generally does. There were some interesting political parallels to certain things in the world today, but unfortunately I don't think any of those plot points got a satisfactory treatment because in the end it has to be an action packed shounen fight movie to please the fans.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, but I hated the ending.

Yeah, you're completely right. Hahaha. It actually does a good job of playing within the the rules and world of FMA. I think it's just the overall aesthetic and animation style that kind of threw me off, in a good way though.

I also agree that the ending is pretty "what."

Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride - 02

Kayos' reasons to rage at Date a Live ain't got shit on this.

Attack on Titan - 02

This just seals Misaki as my fave character right now, keeping that shounen heart disease in check.

How are the scores for the rest of the anime on Nico?
Idolm@ster got crazy numbers back in the days, like 98% for option 1.
Now that I think about it, a site that archives that sort of thing would be really handy.
There was one. It's probably still around.
This one, isn't it? In the case of THE IDOLM@STER, for the individual/back-to-back episodes ranking of emissions only its 25 one is among the top 10 (http://nikonikoranking.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-7250.html#_tuujou).

Miki/Iori is cute. Actually, fuck the haters. Miki makes for some of the best IM@S yuri.
Dunno, Chihaya needs someone more aggressive to take the lead.
Plz don't try and yurize mai true sad life waifu ;_;
Hey, the fans have spoken! And if she is shown happy like that I don't see the problem. ;-)

Anyway, I'm normally partial to the Chihaya & Yayoi pairing because I find it so sweetly awkward or unbalanced, and consequently more heartwarming but also funny. However, the Haruka × Chihaya × Yayoi triangle is a preferred option, in my opinion, and Lyot really knows best:

Oh, neat. I love when I get real answers.
Don't forget to mention the contribution to this of former GAiNAX member Kikuko Sadakata, that as always is very cool!

Forgive me Studio Pablo, but this show has the most impressive background art of the season.
Well, it is Studio Bihō after all! One of Production I.G preferred ones, and justly so, to the point of immediately trusting the new ventures of previous staff on it (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49049163&postcount=8912) because of the sure talent that generates.

Attack on Titans 2

Dupstep bullshit. The thing with the dream doesnt even make sense. Spoilers everywhere. And the outro sucks as hell. Everywhere blood but you will NEVER see how a titan will eat a human. Its everytime offscreen or something is in the way. I already dont like this anime. It went from wow to fucking piece of shit in 2 episodes.

The episode is that bad compared to the source material? It started with such huge potential. Still need to see this episode

Valvrave - 01

I... have no f'in idea what happened. I think Sunrise decided to just Geass it up and use some ideas they had lying around and made a show out of it.

The character animations are nothing short of terrible and it felt like watching a powerpoint slideshow at times but the mecha action was pretty great. I really dislike CG but if its CG done like this where it makes sense in the world and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, I don't mind as much.

Did you have a bad day? Thats an extreme reaction and comparison, at no times during the episode did valvrave look like powerpoint slideshows (like the ones widely prevalent in sword art online)

Newish gaffer here that was weened on Melody of Oblivion and Final Fantasy Unlimited (a.k.a. the golden age of anime) and was wondering what I should watch next: Casshern Sins, Project ARMS or Romeo x Juleit?

Out of those 3 Casshern Sins easily.

Give Baccano! a shot.

Project ARMS is pretty interesting and probably the only thing I enjoyed out of the three you listed. It's pretty long though.

Gargantia 2

Well, this show has sunk its claws in me.

What a wonderful second episode, with some great character moments and a lot of neat world building. I love the bright colors, and the score has been fantastic thus far. The whole thing definitely feels like a Murata production. Especially the sequence where
the pirates spread their wings and launched into the air.

A lot of great mechanical design here, and the finale was
pretty damn grisly too. The way the pirates were just completely annihilated by Ledo's beam weapon is probably not going to win our hero any fans.

Give me more. Now.

Man, you aren't kidding. This show sucked me in big time.

bad gameplay lol
I know I've said this before, but damn I'm blown away by how good this season is in comparison to the Winter season. I'm enjoying every single show I've picked up for this season far more than anything from the previous (with the possible exception of OreGairu...might end up dropping that one, not sure yet).

Oh yeah, also:

Muromi-san 2

This show is so ridiculous. I love it.

Please support the various anime OTs. We can do this together. Stop dumping everything in this thread! We can promote change for a better world!

If we all posted in the OTs then they'd be swept into OT Community where the anime filth belongs.
Aren't they for the people that fear us anyway? Why would they want direct post contact with someone from AnimeGAF?
Only OT I use is the Jojo OT because none of you people give a shit about good anime.

Given those exact choices I would probably have to for Casshern Sins.

Gargantia is so ridiculously good. Like fuck. That was one crazy ending.

Really curious as to where the story goes now.

Definitely the show of the season (from what I've watched so far anyway) with Aku no Hana as #2.

Well people posting in ots would be helpful as posts and impressions get lost quickly here and its difficult to go back and find posts if one is late watching an episode/waiting for the episode to actually air on tv/ or curious to go back and evaluate if peoples speculation turned out to be true or not.(well I like to keep track of whose good at predicting things).

duckroll is just doing is part to destroy this thread. First he secludes us in Community, the he ensures that the discussions about all the best shows happen elsewhere. He's playing the long game!

Although, in reality, it's generally better to have all the posts about a particular show in one place.

I usually avoid OTs because posters have a tendency to blatantly disregard any potential spoilers and they happily start dropping hints or outright plot developments left and right. The Titan thread, for instance, has already fallen victim to this so I doubt I'll ever go back there again.
