Well the problem is that they bill it in that nature and they make lots of important deliberate connections to the old material which forces you to make that comparison even though it's not really appropriate.

I try to think of it as a sequel or successor to FLCL. Except without the memorable music. Except in those scenes where they borrow the Gunbuster score.

When I watched it earlier in the year, I couldn't help feeling like how much of a sequel it was given how it sort of fetishized the original in the same vein as the original did anime culture stuff.

I actually thought better of Gurren Lagann after the fact as it seemed more spiritual sequel to Gunbuster whereas Diebuster was a literal one .

Completely on board with Gintama now after a few more episodes.

The way they went from a sad story about a dude being out of his daughter's life for 13 years to having to chase down and capture a purple alien octopus is what sold me. This can truly be about anything, and I like that.

The tone shifts. Sorachi is a master of them.

And it felt like Diebuster was more or less FLCL and Gurren Lagaan combined.

I'm actually in a class about human sexuality, gender identity, etc and I have a couple of questions that I want to ask for class. Am I allowed to ask without getting banned?

I think the whole need for a Gunbuster vs. Diebuster argument is pretty silly. Both have their ups and downs, but they're entertaining in their own ways and very digestible, short OVAs.

And yet, there can only be one.

In my quest to run through Gainax works, Gurren is next up after Die.

Yes.

Just don't ask GAF to do your homework or you'll get tar and feathered.

Ultimately neither are really that good.

This is the truth. Once you get past the nice visual designs, iconic music, and memorable endings, there's not a lot of substance there. Also, both series take an interminable amount of time to actually kickstart the plot for some reason, even though they both only have six episodes.

Just make sure to bring SAO into this, then not only will it be on topic, it'll be par for the course.

I really wouldn't recommend asking the wider GAF audience for these things unless you want a strong undercurrent of LBGT indifference and MRA bullshit. Limit your focus and you'll get better answers.

Kirito makes everyone feel like a girl compared to his awesome manliness.

You are talking to nerds. Lists and "my anime is better than your anime" arguments come with the description.

Well yeah. This is the internet.

The focus is actually on AnimeGAF since the research has to do with anime. I would only be asking this community. I'll have the questions posted up a bit later today. After my nap. And Class.

What about pillar men?"

I'm in desperate need of Anime/Manga that's like Welcome to the NHK. Dramatic Slice-of-Life with an obvious purpose to project oneself into the character or situation.

I love some futa assuming no ballsack. Traps are aptly named. That said, since they're fictional characters, the only limit is your imagination. Screw 'Word of God'. As for bodyswitching, depends on the personalities of the parties involved.

Also, I know this is basically a common trope in SOL/CGDCT shows, but none of the characters in K-On! have parents, do they? :lol It just strikes me as funny that they've only explained the absence of Yui and Ui's parents once ("they're in Germany for Christmas!"), and then they're evidently never mentioned again. :lol

You actually do get to see Yui's parents.

Like actually at home and talking to Yui.

Okay, I was messing with y'all last time. There is a real, legitimate answer.

I think it's pretty clear a case of what Diebuster represents. It's old vs new anime. 80's anime fans vs 2000's anime fans. Old Gainax vs New Gainax. Mecha vs Moe. Cells vs digital. Tradition vs experimentation. Hideaki Anno vs Kazuya Tsurumaki. Gunbuster vs Diebuster.

It allows you to fight all the proxy wars about anime that you could ever possibly want to fight. What it represents may be more tempting to fight over than what it actually is.

A better question would be: in what world wouldn't there be arguing about this? The stakes are pretty high!

Back cover for Dusk Maiden of Amnesia has been posted.

It appears to be 1080p, with an extended version of episode 12, and includes Japanese commentaries subbed(?) for the 12 TV episodes and the OVA! Here's hoping that the 1080p is truly 1080p.

Dat wall of text.

That sounds like a long anime though.

But it's great. 70 episodes of pure awesome.

Besides, you can't actually be a real human being until you've watched Cardcaptor Sakura.

Anime is fucking saved.

I was hoping for something meatier.

Damn, I'm gonna have to finish Star Driver at some point, aren't I?

No, you really don't have to. If you've seen one Star Driver episode, you've seen them all. Save yourself further anguish.

Terrible opinion.

Who knew making text lines straight was so hard? Sentai is disgusting.

That is not my main concern. Sure the text positioning could be better, but I am mainly concerned about the video quality. For what's actually in this release is quite amazing, but if the Blu-ray video quality is downgraded like some of Sentai's past releases I may as well just get the DVD.

Really want those soundtracks, and hope other NA anime companies start putting soundtracks in initial releases.

Sometimes yuri can be the best only good part of a show, like say Ga-rei Zero.

Ask for all the answers to be returned as PM's.

All that ugly art, now in 1080p. I guess this will be the time to give this another shot.

Terrible opinion.

People who don't like Chitanda by the end have no soul. Or appreciation of its writing.
