Oh man oh man Mayaa is the most adorable kitty and Sakaki being a mommy is just so daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw. And then Sakaki was all "I like cute things, because I've never been cute." and Chiyo was all "No! You're cute!" And it was so DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Betterman 16

Okay, so Betterman is fighting some guy and they're doing all this cryptic mumbojumbo talk. Meanwhile, SHO THE COOL GUY WITH AN ACTUAL GIRLFRIEND! is fighting three other robots along with his ACTUAL GIRLFRIEND! Beats the living hell out of them and we learn that his brother's ghost, which has been haunting him since the Ajaunta Caves, is in fact the psychic emission of whatever is left of his brother in a tube the size of a fire extinguisher hooked up to one of these mechs. He kills it, and then we're left wondering if Betterman has (obviously) survived his battle with the other guy.

The Vision of Escaflowne 15

I SAID GAT DAYUMMM. Merl totally shut Hitomi down and called her out for her crap about liking Van AND Beautiful Sephiroth, which is ironic because Hitomi JUST pointed out to Milurna that Beautiful Sephiroth HAS A KID HE KEPT SECRET FROM ERRYONE and all. Wait, isn't this show about giant robots and not five way love triangles? WHY YES IT IS. And to prove it, two sexy cat ladies show up in robots with long flowin' hair. Oh and Van is tryin' to figure out how to fight in a giant robot and not kill anyone. We need a name for this common affliction of Mecha Protagonists. I want to call it Kira Syndrome, but Kira is hardly the first example, so I'm seeking candidates for a name for the thing that Mechatagonists get when they can't straight up kill people with their OP giant robots no more.

Azumanga is turning you :cajun lol.
its kind of adorable.
also nice to see you enjoying anime rather than suffering.
watch Kiddy Grade next.

Mahoromatic 2
Hey, listen up, Mahoro's got something important to say to you deprived perverts

So there you have it. Also, this show can sure alternate fast between cute and lewd. And what's with the depressing countdown at the end of each episode? Lot of conflicting emotions here..

Mahoro is an ultra cutie.
this show is best gainax (in my opinion)

So what have I been missing for the past year starting, AnimeGAF? Currently watching Gargantia, Hataraku Maou-sama, Chihayafuru S2, Date A Live, Hentai Ouji, OreGairu, and Devil Survivor 2.

I second Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2012). I think Girls und Panzer also counts.

Well the best show you aren't watching this season are Attack on Titan and Valvrave. Jojo's is also great.

When Sakaki was rollin' on the floor with Mayaa I was just gushing. So adorable.

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!! 11

And now let me wax philosophic 'bout a rom-com. This is the Social Science episode where everyone has to go and flirt to get people to get the new club room. Kaname explains flirting to Sousuke as "basically you have to act like Kurz." But the best part is that Kaname notes, at the end of the episode, that this is the first time Sousuke has complemented her appearance. This is the resolution of one of her problems from earlier episodes (namely beach episodes where clueless Sousuke never notices Kaname's new swim suits etc.) and draws attention to a pattern in the series: that basically every step of physical intimacy, no matter how basic, is something of a significant milestone for the series
given that Sousuke and Kaname do not ever kiss or tell each other how they feel in the anime (all though there is this whole hair cut thing), and that in the manga they hold hands just prior to Leonard starting a damn war in Japan to get Kaname, and only admit that they love each other after Sousuke returns the favor by launching an assault on Leonard's pad. And that as of this writing, Sousuke's promise to kiss Kaname when next they meet is still unfulfilled.

Another enjoyable part of the episode is that a member of the Model Club flips out on an ugly chick, and Kaname notes that said member of the Model Club is also a member of the Student Council (which is humorous because while we're used to seeing Ren, Hayashimizu, Kaname and Sousuke, we've only ever seen this kid in the Council Room once.)

Episodes 92-103

103 episodes down, 103 episodes to go

The crew has finally arrived at Alabasta. What a place. Filled with sand, a three year drought, sand, giant shrimp scorpions, bird thieves, sand, desert pirates & desert bandits, sand sledding, ruined towns, hallucinogenic cacti. Did I mention sand already, cause there's a lot of it. Makes sense for a desert country.

And look who just happened to be in Alabasta....Capt. Smoker! Glad to see him again. The Kuina knockoff....not so much, but I'm sure I'll change my opinion of her eventually. Maybe they'll aid in Luffy's attempt to bring down Crocodile once they find out what's really going on.

But clearly more attention was focused on Ace, Luffy's older brother, who is way more smarter and wiser than Luffy. It's only fitting that with his flame/fire Devil Fruit powers that he would voiced by the same guy who does the dub voice for Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist on FMA. Shame he couldn't stick around with the others after finding out Black Beard was in Alabasta. I do wonder what the blank paper is all about. Probably will be a while before that's fully explained.

I'm also curious about the ancient ruins discovered by Luffy, Zoro and Chopper. That will probably be explained as well in a couple of episodes.

And then there's the reveal of the other major Baroque Works agents: Mr. Four, Miss Merry Xmas, Mr. One and Miss Doublefinger (does she enjoy sticking two fingers up someone's butt or something?). I already like Mr. Two and his Devil Fruit power is pretty cool so I hope the crew go easy on him (and I really don't think Zoro's bandage plan will work). And Mr. Three is still at large (no doubt he brought Golden Week, Five and Valentine with him to Alabasta).

As for the Rebel soldiers and their leader Koza, I get the strange feeling he won't be so generous to Vivi once they finally see other again. Things are clearly gonna get messy as the attack by the rebels approaches. And with the crew so far away from the actual rebel camp, I wonder how will they to Katorea in time before it's too late. Maybe blend in with other rebels in a close enough town? Or just head for the kingdom itself to stop the rebels from taking control and overthrowing the king? In any case, the shit will be hitting the fan very soon. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Karoo has been captured or will be captured soon. Just a question of who will nab him first.

Remind me again, how long should I wait to see the 3rd OP so I won't be spoiled by something major?

shingeki no kyojin / attack on titan - 05

Man, I was looking forward to this ep, too.

The constant interludes rob tension out of any scene. And those interludes were shit--no one gives a fuck about the primitive politicking they attempted to show here, when it's all just stereotypes being expounded on, the rich man screwing over the poor. Then you have the titan-lesson time that probably should have ended up in one of the two training-arc episodes.

There's no build-up, no progression to the narrative arc within the episode. It comes in stutters and the viewer is supposed to appreciate it for the sheer shock value, but then, I was too busy laughing to be truly affected. From the hilarious titan designs to the almost sarcastic (not sadistic) way with which the characters are dispatched, it's like, what's the fucking point?

uguu said:

And goddamn, it's only episode five and already they can barely animate anything. The best cuts were all the in trailer they showed weeks ago! The action has no sense of place or progress to it, either, outside of those 'good' cuts. People seemingly teleport from one place to another with the vague assumption being that they must have gotten there somehow.

Hmm, these last two episodes may have looked cheaper than usual but there was first year that kinda sounded like Omigawa and that's good enough for me. A shame there's still no site of the red=headed girl in the OP.

Smile Precure 1-5 Recap

So yeah, Doing this because I just watched episode 6 in order to leave off two potential scenarios in the near future. Since it's 48 episodes, I wanted to make sure I can end this evenly, so in case someone is watching it around the same time I'm watching this when I finish Suite, I'll do maybe 4 episodes, so I'd only have to watch 2 more. Otherwise it'll be about 6 a day.

Anywho, as I stated before, this has the worst start of any Precure that isn't Max Heart, because it is literally infuriating seeing them being incompetent in battle because they don't think. The characters themselves are pretty simple, and their personality traits were established right off the bat, and some of their aspects could've been condensed. Cure March's was probably the least aggravating episode since it wasn't mindnumbingly incompetent. Anyway, The Bad End dudes are trying to gather Bad Energy so that way they can revive Studio Pierrot to send everyone into a bad end. That is a fate worse than death. But what about the Pretty Cure? Why are they here? It's answered in..

Smile VNcure 6

Intro has spoilers for Precure Allstars New Stage. Smile group and everyone up to GoGo! gets shown. What about the rest of them? Fuck them. Probably a good thing since I really don't want to see what Cure Muse looks like in the intro yet.

The group asks Candy questions on everything, Candy atttempts to say "they're legendary warriors" to everything and fails miserably. Then LIONO appears with answers, and revealing that
they have a magic book case that can take them anywhere.
. Miyuki wants to create a catchphrase since everyone is here.

Akane and Nao: Who cares? With cold stares in their eyes. I might grow to like these two. Yayoi embraces it and Reika is like why not.

And then trouble
AHAHAHAAHA, Miyuki fucked up the teleport by yelling PENGY! Sending her to Antarctica. No one transform because Miyuki isn't there, so they can't come up with a catchphrase. Speaking of which, she's in the fucking south pole, with no suitable clothing, how the fuck did she not freeze immediately? Is wanting to see pengies that strong? Is such a thing even possible? Yes it is. But everything is alright. They got their catchphrase, now then can fig-- NOPE, shot immediately. And we fai-- HOLY SHIT TRANSFORMING LION AND THE DAY IS SAVED

In anycase, despite the rough start, that was actually a fun episode, and quite humorous to boot! Holy shit is it colorful though. Like slightly more subdued than Heartcatch's very bright colors but damn.

Even the 'bad' guys become somewhat sympathetic

Maho is amazing indeed, I love the romance between her and Koyuki, nothing cliche.

Momoko the teacher is pretty hot too, wearing a miniskirt at school

Yep, an all round great show. One of my favourites. Only thing that disappointed was the ending.

I haven't even watched 1.11 yet! Heck I didn't know about what they did to Asuka in 2 until I saw it on a Newtype cover :(

Maybe I'll just pretend these versions don't exist and rewatch the TV series, it's been like 15 years since I watched it on TV.

Not really entirely accurate. There were already signs that 3.0 was not meeting expectations.

When 1.0 opened in Japan, I think it was on 50 screens or something like that. It made about $20 million. For 2.0, they expanded it to over 100 screens, and it made $40 million. 3.0 opened on over 200 screens, the widest opening for Eva ever, and had tons of hype behind it, and yet it only managed a little over $50 million. It made more than 2.0, but I think a lot more was expected of it considering how much more money they were spending on the marketing and distribution this time.

(I'm using 1 billion yen = $10 million for the examples here for simplicity's sake. Eva 3.0 ended its run with about 5.2 billion yen iirc.)

So bad word of mouth after a massive fuckton of hype led to to this 32% reduction in opening week sales? Will be interesting to see what 4.0 does....

I think there was definitely a HUGE ton of hype at first, which we can see from the massive opening, but the legs after that got considerably worse. The word of mouth must have been really bad.

Fuck all three then, I only give my love to Kaworu and Touji's sistah.

And seriously this Asuka are horrible, the worse of 3.. that saying a lot. Have dat chin the most too.

Seems like Newtype is gonna be a day late or something. Imaishipocalypse delayed :(
Well, Newtype magazine is releasing on its marked day, isn't it? Thing is determined people didn't it get early this time (or so it seems).

But even before that maybe we have get a possible confirmation of additional upcoming information:

I think that translation gives the wrong idea. The Japanese wording is pretty clear that he'll be giving a talk about the animation industry - its current state and where it could go in the future. It's an education lecture, not a PR event. :p
