Instead of comparing it to Utena, let's use Imaishi's own words:

In Trigger terms, I think it will be a work that has Inferno Cop's soul and Little Witch Academia's attention to detail... I hope that doesn't bring misunderstanding... Well, let's just say it's Trigger at all-out war.

Nakashima doing the script is probably the best part of the announcement. I've seen way too many bad scripts derail a good show or movie.

Woah even though I said I did not like the premise the character with the red sword kinda looks cool. Though that is one hell of slutty school uniform. Not even Catholic school girls will dare to wear their shirts like that, but its anime so what am I saying. Her sword looks kinda lame though.

This is for you, cosmic:

Imaishi said:
We thought we'd go all out by taking the best elements from shonen manga. We decided to make this work one where the audience can feel strongly about the main character with a diversity of emotions.

I don't see why they can't do both. And as they continue to raid their competition stock of LNs, it'll probably depend on just how good they are. And others pointed out, Tamako probably seemed like an easy bet, and it was pretty good, to boot. Quality doesn't have to be independent of success--K-ON is one of the biggest merchandising hits of all time, for example.

They still have Takemoto, Yamada, etc. We've seen one bad show out of the last few years, in chuu2, directed by Ishihara of all people. It's not a trend. What's worrying is where they'll get their material from, but I doubt we'll see a complete transition just yet.
Tamako was a risk though. And original IP based on nothing, basically being sold as some kind of spiritual sequel to K-ON!! but not really.

I guess in a way doing adaptations of books they publish is still technically working on original IP, but I wonder if they will chase the idea of making a completely original anime any time soon (and putting their A-team on said property).

So much about manservice, they even created an anime version of it to try and grab the fujoishis!
Shit, I forgot the anime existed. lol

Supernatural seasons 1-5 were legit great. Arrow itself isn't turning out to be bad either. Yes there are manservice aspects to both, however the core parts of the shows are good. Supernatural in particular has no qualms about pointing this stuff out.
Oh yeah, I hear that Arrow is the new fangirl show nowadays. Of course, their whole "girl channel" thing doesn't seem to be working out these days, as far as I know.

So I actually decided to look at the art books in particular and Loran is going to turn out be Laura isn't he?

Some of those shots look so feminine. I do think the designs themselves might be fine but whoever adapted it due a horrendous job.

I think they look okay in the series. Everyone looks a little bit 'off' but you soon get used to it, or at least I did after a couple of episodes.

Hah, I didn't notice til now that Satsuki's uniform also has that "Eye" thing right under her collar too.

Wonder how all that's going to come into play in the show.

Maybe she'll summon the other half somehow. That fringe looks suspicious.

She lost the other half in battle; her character profile says she is looking for it. If you notice, her uniform is actually missing an eye and has a cross-shaped scar in its place...

I see. That's what I get for not reading up on things. A bad habit of mine...

Anyway, I'm certainly looking forward to what they'll make of the "character drama" part of the show. I hope Trigger can really do something interesting with that part.

I wish I brought my earphones with me so I could watch animu on my phone while I and ten others wait for our professor to show up for the final exam. Been a half hour now.

No wonder girls are so in love with this damn thing. lol

It really manages to balance well between the men being The Best Heterosexual Men ever and Haruka being enough of a doormat for the audience to self-insert, but not so much of a doormat that you can almost understand why every man wants to get into her pants.

Given how hard it is to achieve that balance - and the lack of success of any shoujo in the anime realm outside of say, Kimi ni Todoke - I guess I need to applaud how well this show manages to hit all those buttons. With a fucking reverse-harem of all things.

uQEqUbyl.jpg

I also find this :7th moment interesting (sorry SDBurton, 7th is the OG here lol), in that the best friend is basically a non-entity without being a shitty side-character like you'd see in a male-lead harem. The self-insert girl gets to have the homosocial bond of a close female friend, but without that friend being of any threat to her harem because she lives in her own world and presumably has her own reverse-harem that doesn't involve the self-insert character.

All shoujo does this, of course, but the fact that this girl is such a non-character is actually amazing to me. She provides the same support as the "BFF" girls in Neighbourly Monsters and Say I Love You and whatever, but she literally is the most paper-thin character ever written. She exists to trope, and - much to my chagrin - she is actually stronger because of that.

Man, I think I'm starting to unironically love this show because of its craft. I can't fucking believe it.

Little Busters!

First anime I actually watched simulcast. It's soooo Key. I feel like so many of the characters from their games spill over.. at least the protag wasn't half bad. =

Looking forward to Little Busters S2.

Some of my hype.

Though our fish eye moe otome lead has barely given much focus this season as well. Hell for two of her conquests, she was basically the magical thing that appeared and solved our pretty boy's problems.

With the amount of inserting they are doing, Mr. Tall, Dark and Royalty has pretty much taken over our normal otome lead's role!

You forgot to add it's the only idol show with 2D animated concerts hehe.

It's amazing how season two is such a shocking step up from season 1 even though it's retained the same blank self insert main girl, but added just enough onto her non character to not make it feel that way.

And ever since you mentioned Sawashiro (last episode?), I can't unhear it now lol.

I don't remember... even idolmaster resorted to CG concerts? lol

And it's fascinating because they went from pure emo healing girl (which is presumably the well that made the Twilight series so successful) to something that is essentially light comedy, complete with chibi/deformed character art. It's like they know that they "have" the audience that need the emotion porn, so now they're just giving them service/relationship porn. It's why this works so much better than Amnesia, for one.

Haruku is basically a shoujo'ed up version of Sawashiro's other characters. It's lovely to hear, because she isn't full anime girl by virtue of that slight bit of gravel she sneaks into her voice. And yeah, even though she barely talks in the anime, I can't help but know that it's her every time she speaks. lol

That's why it makes this season so amazing. She just says one small thing that makes the guy get all dokidoki and in her face. There's no real need for her to play the shrink this time around, solving all their childhood problems and insecurities.

When you watch this episode, you'll be amazed at how the problem solves itself and how little she actually needs to do to get the guy. lol

your story brought tears to my eyes. im glad you have great students with great taste.

Nichijou brings us all together. Well it tried to anyway.
Fuck everything :(

Yes!

Cant wait for this, was definitely the best thing KyoAni has done in a while. Looking forward to this and Free.

I thought you loved Tamako and Hyouka and hated Chuuni.

KILL-LA-KILL is also produced by Aniplex, the MAFIA OF ANIME.

Soon available to buy for the low low price of $249.99!

Infinite Stratos 04

So we get to PLOT and seemingly continue the harem antics. Gee I really can't stand the MC at all. I do like the EDs though and how they made one for each of the Waifus.

I still cant bleieve I bought the blurays. But thats how much I like Charles I guess.

[Pretty Soldier Sailor Venus R] 078

Sailor Moon excels at these comedy storylines. I know I harp on this a lot but this was very Goldfish Warning!-esque, down to the reaction gags. Best episode since the cat one in season one.

Minako is so moé omg (while Ami keeps on being a total cockblock). Although she does raise the question of just how
wrong it is that Mamoru is dating Usagi especially
when there are purer forms of love available.

tl;dr Makoto is still the best, but Minako is very close.

A show focusing on Minako would be my dream show.

Oh no you didn't..

Infinite Stratos 05

Look at those fujoshi eyes gleaming. How do you fall for the Charles thing anyway. Like seriously? LOL :SDBurton this show is beyond dumb but lol. :wonzo. I laughed so hard at this.
I feel for him in a way English food blows How can he be so thick.

Boob binding is a fascinating science. I think they hide them in hammerspace.

There's this scan now:

(If the size gets troublesome I can link it instead, it's ~2.5 MB)

hmm. still not feeling these designs

Infinite Stratos 06

This sums up every harem protag ever.
Well that was quick.. Char is pretty cute though. I don't know. It may be the catalyst that keeps me on board. Fuck me this whole thing is dumb though. Where was she hiding those.

Hnngh
:SDBurton
She'll be all over the MC's dick soon enough.

Welcome to the hnnnngh factor!
Also her song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ93r9AWK8E

The shorter girl has such range of expressions, she's great. The other one seems like she's never happy, poor her.

Cajun, do you still think they are meh? :(

I still don't like them. They are simple enough to work with sakuga scenes though which is probably the point. they just look plain to me.

It's like the 90s all over again!

I so wish! I would love the 90s to come back.

This show sounds interesting and I will probably check it out, but first I should watch Gurren Lagann shouldn't I?

Yes. Gurren Lagann is calling you. HEED THE CALL.

I have no idea how thatsort of logic is allowed to exist in anime but its probably the smallest affront to physics and reality that exists in haremshit compared to other stuff.

Infinite Stratos 07

:Hometown also featuring the magibra .This guy man. This guy. What's with harem protags. :lol
Dem fujoshis Also butts.

You will see!

Char is the only reason you are still watching isn't she? Its ok to admit because thats true for most.

Please stop doing this Japan.

Do not insult the almighty fang. DONT DO IT!
Even if this particular one is on a terrible character.
The fang is as ubiquitous to anime as the sweat drop and the nosebleed.
