Alright settled on a few of my favorite OPs. Not necessarily my top favorites and I wrote up more than this but I've spent enough time on this so here goes:

Lodoss TV - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blICu7KsmyA

What can I say about this? It’s amazing as it combines some high class animation to the haunting “Sea of Miracles” sung by Maaya Sakamoto. It hits right notes with me as someone who watched the OVA with the appearances of Deedlit, Parn, Kashue, etc such that I feel like I’m invited back into the world of Lodoss for another adventure. I haven’t even seen this show yet I could watch this OP all day. The solo shots of Parn and Deedlit are such hair porn.

Bleach OP1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVaKesaMDkA

Stylish as hell and captures the youth of the cast. It certainly fit the feel of the show in those early episodes. Rewatching it for the sake of refreshing myself on it was a surprise too as it was actually better than I remembered.

Fate/Stay Night TV Reproduction - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu7n2IDDx_Q
First, I should note this might be spoilers for the TV series given how the OP itself is something of a highlight reel of events. Anyhow, it's ag uilty pleasure since it’s a better version of the TV’s OP, touches upon Master/Servant relationships, Rin’s isolation and loneliness, and Servant battles. I don't think the premise is entirely without merit despite the god awful TV adaptation and I do hope ufotable gets a shot of their own to make things right.

Gundam AGE OP 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAVcFXFcFKg

This was a nice treat in what was otherwise a deeply flawed show. Masami Obari directed it and consequently it’s pretty damn Obari. Even better, it’s evocative of older mecha shows what with the strong action sequences and posing. Its greatest flaw was leaving me wanting Obari animated Gundam but thankfully I got that in the final epsode of Gundam AGE and it was awesome. Of note, it’s also adaptive and obscured elements begin to be revealed in accordance with reveals in the plot itself.

To be fair,he draws on his previous work to make this in what I assume is a “If it isn’t broken..” approach. So much so it was remade by using clips of his older OPs.
AGE3 OP remade via Obari OPs: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17705961
Bonus: SRW The Inspector OP remade via Obari OPs: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm14192825

Galactic Cyclone Bryger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG5DaDCeEN8

Awesome song set to Yoshinari Kanada animation? Yes, please! It’s stylish, exciting, dynamic, and unfortunately has better action than the rest of the show combined but that doesn’t take away from its merits or influence. According to the Vanishingtrooper blog series about Masami Obari, he’d have never become an animator if not for that OP.

Gundam 00 OP2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xChqT5_o50o

I’m not sure why I’m partial to this one as much as I am. I think a lot of it has to do with the song selection on top of the “You are now here.” visuals given where it started in the series
Of course there’s the badass action part to sell me on it but I like how the misgivings of each member is briefly touched upon visually, how each is paired with their respective rival in the main bit of action, and how the Throne Gundam stuff is introduced
and the ensuing conflict with them foreshadowed
. Another nice touch is the sense of speed in Ali’s introduction @ 0:47. He’s accelerating then and by 0:48 he’s long since gone. Always nice when that feels right.

Armored Trooper VOTOMS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8hwDQJRU7E

Great song for a great OP that captures just how Chirico can’t escape conflict. 0:14-:0:29 is a great sequence where despite the destruction left behind, Chirico soldiers on. Sequence after that with the helmet and goggles makes him look inhuman, almost like an impassive machine and even when he rejects it, it finds him again. He’s the only enduring element in all this which represents the series well as he bounces from conflict to conflict.

Great Teacher Onizuka - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVmXPv-gwgo

Beautiful black & white animation that grasps Onizuka’s character perfectly. Shading & shadows in it is just great stuff.

Witch Hunter Robin - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsP6EIIcaLY

Just a really personal OP even if it does borrow liberally from Madonna’s Take a Bow video. Despite the existence of a support cast, the only focus is placed on Robin and Amon.

Turn A Gundam - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpqwY7tsZS4

Song gives the OP gravitas while the visuals complement the relationships in the show. Yeah, there’rs the Turn A in there doing things but I was always fascinated by the characters appearing. Particularly:

which hints at who interacts with who as the show progresses. Where the music is at this point only makes it better.

Dirty Pair: Project Eden - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z53R0LoeV8c

Sure, it's from a movie. It doesn't take away from how amazing it is though even if there isn't all that much to do with the movie in it.

Macross - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3izRIqNKzE

Exciting and full of mechanical animation porn even if the music is a little bombastic and not entirely representative of the actual events in the series. :lol

Dangaioh - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xh4f8_hajataisen-dangaioh-op_news#.UXrn46JB81I

Blocked by BandaiChannel on youtube. How rude. Glorious 80s visuals set to a fabulous song.

The Skull Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9O3ECHAMfY

This one is just too cool and should be considered as much of a part of the show as anything as it successfully sets the tone going in. It's a travesty this never made it over in the NA edition as I think it actually adversely affects the final overall product. I think it's essential viewing if watching the show even if it is a bit misleading. As far as I could tell, very little of the OP has to do with the actual show aside from The Skull Man doing skull things. It seems more like it's a love letter to the original manga in how it appropriates imagery from it.

Maturity, bitches.
Just multi-quote until Kayos pulls his own weight in making OT4 happen.
Multiquoting is great. You look smarter because you have such a long post and you can get away with so much because no one reads them. I mean I insulted at least six posters and not a single one noticed.

If you multiquote does it still tag you for quote notifications?

Chihayafuru 2 16:
Just as we've escaped the Space Brothers recap hell, we get a Chihayafuru recap episode. Omake clips weren't as funny as the first season's one, either. Guess I have to wait another week to see how things go.

Oh for poop's sake. Japan, buy more copies of whatever Dr Kawashima is slapping his name on so your memory improves. We don't need more of these goddamn recaps!

This was at least a recap of pretty much the whole season, unlike that first Space Brothers recap that only covered the first two episodes of the series. That was pretty ridiculous.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You can sprinkle as much glitter as you want, it's still shit.

I'll submit this as proof (since some people try to argue against them) why next episode previews are a good thing. If we had known from last week that Chihayafuru was going to be a clipshow this week, everyone would have already had time to accept it. Instead, we get that soulcrushing moment of sitting down to watch a new episode and then the sudden 'oh'.

Alright, I've closed the survey -- the final total is an astounding 72 responses, compared to the 44 from the first survey. Thank you all!

I'll get to work on organizing the results and try to start posting them by tonight, but for now, to kill some time, what's the funniest mispronunciation of a Japanese name or term that you've heard in an English dub?

Recaps are not primarily for the benefit of the audience as they are for the production staff. Their presence is usually a sign that they're running behind and need some extra time to get a product out,

"The List" can answer this inquiry with ease.

Awww yea, he's back!!! The new detective is really charming, don't know if Galileo and her will have a nice chemistry yet but I'm looking forward to this season.

I just checked out some other anime forums and people are really upset about the swimming anime. I don't understand why though. Nobody knows what the show is about yet.

I wonder if there really is a market for something like FREE! to be honest; I don't remember the last all-male cast show that sold well. Popular fujoshi shows are stuff like Tiger and Bunny, Geass or F/Z, which have a pretty wide appeal. Going by what the director has said, there really isn't any audience for FREE! other than fujoshi. :p

Fujoshi, or just people who want to see attractive male characters doing stuff.
You don't specifically have to be into shipping them together to enjoy them.

UtaPrince anime was a hit, with video sales on par with Chuunibyou. It's a reverse harem, not an all-male show, but that's not necessarily super important--it's still a vehicle for delivering a cast of attractive male characters either way. There's going to be percentage of that audience for whom a female lead is a requirement, but I bet there's a larger number who don't care or might even be happier without a female lead.

Speaking from the other side, I generally prefer all-female casts to anything else, but it's not because I need it to be yuri; it's just that I like watching female characters.

Ah, I didn't realize this was coming back.

I did enjoy the first season, so I guess I'll look into watching this, someday...

Given the level of manservice, I think we've seen all that we needed to see.

I guess they've become complacent in expecting something from KyoAni and are surprised that they're getting something else.

You just can't please everyone. Plenty of people clamor for them to diversify their work, and now that they (kinda) are, other people are unhappy because they didn't want this show.
