Hmm, I passed on it thinking it was a a silly teen mecha show but if the characters are amusing enough it could be worthwhile. There goes another one added to the anime backlog.

DokiDoki! Precure - 15

You know, I could see Regina working the prince angle pretty well. Very well, in fact.

They should have done Battle Tendency instead. Ripple users > Stand users

I can't agree with you on that point. By the time Battle Tendency reached it's climax the amount of scenarios left to explore with the Ripple had already dwindled considerably, despite the ridiculousness nature of the fights themselves. Stands have literally infinite creative potential, both visually and in terms of combat. It's no surprise that they've been so widely imitated.

It's that limitless potential precisely what I don't like about the Stands. The Ripple and its pseudo martial arts origin was compelling because you could still make the argument that these were normal humans going against supernatural entities, be it vampires or Pillar Men. I like my heroes being set back by the limitations of their own powers. It's that type of mentality that forces the writer to be creative with the powers he gives to his protagonists.

But yes, maybe I've just watched the shitty part of the story.

Well I can't really vouch for Stands since I have very little comprehension, but I do see where Regulus is coming from at least. But this won't mean much due to said lack of experience.

And then you factor in the reason why Yui's parents are never around and basically the premise of the movie, there's no way they're not incredibly well off.

Then why the hell does she only get 5000 yen allowance per month? Parents trying to instill fiscal responsibility?

I should have known something that something was up when Yui's parents gave her an advance on ten months of allowance like it was nothing. Hopefully now that she knows that they're artificially limiting the amount of money that they're able to give her, she can bleed them for even more.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Except for certain Stands, there isn't much power progression at all. A Stand's overall power will remain the same throughout a given series. The main thing that changes is the application of a Stand's power.

Battle Tendency would be no different if the Ripple was just a Stand Joseph and Ceasar both shared.

Stardust Crusader are the start of Stand's concept, Araki haven't fully grace the concept yet at the time.. some of initial stand are pretty generic like super power, wind/fire elemental etc.

Trust me, Stand fight slowly became focused in limitation and situation by each one, its became some kind of mind game between the fighter.
Stand fight gradually became have much more potential, more over the top and yet actually more GROUNDED than ripple.

The first two eps of 90's OVA will demostrate that.

More or less, and Yui has very little self-control, as you will see.

If anything, I will enjoy it for Iso. Iso Requiescat In Pace
Oh, that's abundantly clear already. She'll probably max several credit cards and declare bankruptcy at 20.
Search for the Takotsuboya K-ON! doujin trilogy. (nsfw)

While the concept of a stand has limitless potential application a single stand user has many, very specific and very important limits on their own stands. Battles are usually about exploiting the specific strengths and weaknesses of one stand vs another. It's as tactical as ever.

Or they're about poker.

Plus, the powers given to vampires and pillar men were kind of nonsensical and random anyway. This guy can produces blades in his body! This guy has magic hair! It's not like there was any consistency to begin with.

Arata naru Sekai - Future

This is a one shot OVA directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa and animated by Madhouse - the same team which created Death Billiards for Anime Mirai 2013. I was curious about it, since Tachikawa hasn't really directed much else aside from episodes of TV anime, and that curiosity kinda paid off. It was a pretty good short, even though it's not entirely self contained and is meant to play off the two other pieces included in the box (a novel and a one-shot manga). The character arc is complete enough for it to be enjoyed without the other pieces though.

One thing that's interesting about this OVA is how it doesn't try to dramatize the setting at all, even though it is a classic scifi scenario about time travel. In that aspect, it reminded me a lot of how Hosoda approached The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The characters are rather natural and low-key, and there's a distinct sense that what is unusual about their activities is only unusual to the viewer, as the characters seldom do anything which calls to attention the fact that it is scifi.

Tachikawa does a pretty great job of making the visuals appealing, and there are some really nice character moments littered all over. It's nice to see attention paid to making quiet and rather inconsequential scenes simply feel better and flow better through good direction. I rather liked the choices in perspective, layout, transitions, and so on. There are some really nice close-ups scenes featuring hands and feet. I never knew Tachikawa had that much Yamauchi in him!

This isn't really a fantastic OVA by any means, and the script lacks the sort of tightness and depth which could have made it more memorable or special, but for what it is as a leisurely look at a group of girls being sent into the distant future to just look around, it was rather enjoyable. The director certainly did a good job with the material he had.

Future Diary: 21

You know, blood kind of suits you, Yuno.

This episode was great, but it also left so many questions.
So Yuno could get into the safe that only the Mayor and Gasai family members can get into, even though she supposedly isn't really Gasai Yuno. The Ninth is dead now, and so is the eleventh. So if I've got everything correct, that just leaves First, Second, and Eighth.

Numbers have never been my strong suit.

I was a little reluctant to watch this without having the other two components of the story at my disposal, so it's good to hear that it can be enjoyed even without that.

That's a quality I can really appreciate. I appreciate sci-fi more when the setting is used to explore themes or characters against its backdrop (or when it's used to look cool, that's fine too), than when the finer points of the technology or science or pseudo-science become the focus. I consider myself a fan of time travel, but I like it because of the possibilities it affords for clashes between time periods or "what if" scenarios, not for the paradoxical logistics of it.

Good flow is something that stood out to me in Tachikawa's work on Death Billiards. I rarely felt that a shot was held for too long or too short, or that the connection between the shots became unclear. There was good variety in his choice of shots too; he didn't rely heavily on any one type which kept visual interest going throughout. I'll definitely go ahead and watch this now so I can get a better understanding of his talent.

I know it wasn't exactly a shocking revelation, but it's a rather bizarre time to reveal that Tsubaki's mother is dead. I hope when Urabe said they're going to do more inappropriate things in the future, she didn't mean in front of his mom's grave.

Welcome to the NHK! - 22

Looks like, for the first time in the show, Misaki's the one with more insecurities going on at the moment than Satou. I do feel bad for Satou being all alone now with both senpai and Yamasaki gone.
