Star Driver, is it worth watching?

Our European friend Jexhius has said many times that he would not recommend that show to anyone. I, on the other hand, say you should watch it if you like any of the following:

-Giant robots
-The Pheonician alphabet
-Domino masks
-Catchy insert songs
-Mahou shounen
-Two-toned hair
-Coats
-Epaulets
-Coats with epaulets
-Fanservice
-Manservice
-Genderswapped Kimura-sensei
-Girls who are in love with two boys at the same time (lookin' at you, Branduil)
-Psycho bisexual girls and the butch lesbians who love them
-Houseboats
-Pet alligators
-Foxy boxing
-Dominatraxes
-Strong, competent female characters with agency, independence, and their own goals

(Those last five are all Kanako Watanabe. <3 her so much.)

-Girls who are in love with two boys at the same time (lookin' at you, Branduil)

I honestly don't think the show handled the love triangle very well; everyone was so obsessed with Takuto that other than the cheesy speech at the end there was absolutely no indication that
Sugata ever had a chance with Wako.

Actually, that's one of the main problems with the show: too much telling, almost no showing.

Lol I came across this site when I searched Shizue Nana, the hot girl who appears at the end of every episode talking nonsense.

First of all, I can't stand people who get ahead in life just because of their name. Even then, there are thousands of women in Japan named Nana. Shizue can't possibly be the hottest one. Besides, Shizue might not even be her real name. The latest fansub called her Suzue. Good. I hope it's not Shizue, because Shizue Nana could easily be abbreviated as ShizNan. That's dangerously close to ShizNat.

Now let's take a cold hard look at the numbers:

The "Nana's Room" segment gets about 1:10 of screentime per episode
Episodes (including Nana's Room) are approximately 23:24 long
There are 47 episodes
The latest release was episode 42

If the time spent subbing Nana's Room had been spent subbing new episodes, we'd be done with episode 44 right now. At the current rate, it'll take another month to hit episode 44. In other words, one whole month was wasted on Shizue Nana. That's a scientifically indisputable fact – Shizue Nana is a waste of time.

K-On! 01: You know, I'm almost thankful that I avoided this series believing it the devil incarnate in my anime hipster days because all of these finer details would have been lost upon me. I don't know whether to burn through the entire thing now or savor the experience. Oh, and something something the girls are really cute something.

It's a shame that, no matter what heights of technical mastery or enjoyability this show achieves, it can never be a 10/10 series because there's a tiny hat in the ED. I'll forgive and look past this unfortunate flaw, of course.

I followed a similar trajectory, sceptical from the outset, but gradually won over by just how good it was. Yes, ostensibly about nothing (or at least very little), but it doesn't stop it being a show that is detail oriented. A delight to consume.

...And yes, I totally agree. Big hats > Little hats.

Episodes 27-39

Oh Don Krieg. You don't look so invincible now, do you? That armor and spear were no match for Luffy's determination to beat you. And you couldn't even sink him to death with that steel net. Pathetic. Good thing Ghin was still alive to shut you up. So long Ghin. Cherish what little time you have left as the poisonous gas slowly kills you. And it looks like Sanji finally left the Baratie....what a tearful goodbye ;_;

But enough about that, it's time for Nami to hog the spotlight. I now see what the true purpose of all that treasure stealing was for. I guess I misjudged her. That Arlong is a gigantic prick! WTF @ how he totally fucked up Bellemere. Crushing her arm like it was nothing and then shooting her.....I really, really, REALLY hope Arlong is killed. Seeing Luffy beat the living shit out of him and still be alive isn't enough for me. That fucker needs to die. This show really needs to start killing off some of these bad guys, cause leaving these guys with severe injuries and not having them die outright seems real foolish. I know this is a long ass show, but I keep thinking that the pirate villains that were defeated but not killed will find their way back into the plot somehow in future episodes. I hate that. So I'm hoping that Arlong is the first big bad to bite the dust. Just so I don't have to see that fucker or hear his goddamn laughter even again.

And lastly: FUCK THE MARINES!

On the topic of not killing villains, Oda said he considers crushing their dreams a worse punishment than death. Makes sense when the series is pretty much about fulfilling dreams in the first place.

The only bad thing about reading CorvoSol's Azumanga impressions is remembering the non-existence of the Yotsubato anime.
Well let's face it, there's only a limited number of studios that would be able to do it justice in this modern world. Unless you want it all CGI of course.

You're both terrible! Natsume is a lovely maiden that deserves love but isn't going to get it, which is awful.
The saddest thing about Natsume is her constantly trying to get a response from the worst HidaSketch girl.

On a side note, I have listened the full OP of Muromi-san far too many times today.

Nana

She's the worst and

Nobue should've never been involved with her

On one hand I see that. On the other hand, the series makes a point of how Nobue has an romanticized view of females and can't see past that. Put more generously he is innocent to the point of naive.

K-On! 01:

Trying this for the first time as an act of gratitude toward someone. Mindblowing craftsmanship. The level of deliberateness perceptible in even the slightest movement or gesture, choice of perspective, and every last aspect of how scenes are framed is rare and wonderful. The characters and the spaces they inhabit feel so alive. It's heaven for an expression whore like me. You know, I'm almost thankful that I avoided this series believing it the devil incarnate in my anime hipster days because all of these finer details would have been lost upon me. I don't know whether to burn through the entire thing now or savor the experience. Oh, and something something the girls are really cute something.
See, I told you it would be good!

Haha, if it makes you feel any better, the EDs in season 2 don't have them!
The first season of K-On is not as polished as the 2nd season. I've said it before but even the animation work is different. K-On!! is totally at a different level.
Yeah, you can definitely tell there's a jump in art quality from season one to season 2, but that doesn't mean the first season isn't good as well. They just got even better.
I'd recommend going at a slow, steady pace, but just follow your heart. If you want to burn through episodes, don't hold yourself back!
I usually watch like one or two episodes a day, but that's how I tackle most shows.
And even K-On!! pales in comparison to the film. God, the film is distilled animation porn. I think the most technically accomplished animation I've seen from Kyoani is all there.
The movie was an absolute treat to watch.
K-ON!! 22

First episode 20, now 22...where am I supposed to put all these feels, KyoAni? ;_;
Just wait till episode 24...
Was 22 the school festival one? That one was awful (in a good way). So :firehawk
Episode 20 is the school festival concert. 22 is the Valentine's episode.

Nekomonogatari 2

Now that we're past the repeat scenario from the Tsubasa Cat arc, it really feels like we're back in Bakemonogatari territory, before it became super haremy (as if it wasn't already). Might actually enjoy this without having to worry about fanservice being the best part. Maybe. Maybe not.

I hate how group projects have unbelievable increases of work load when nearing the deadline. And it's not even my fault.

OreImo S2 - 4

This episode tested my suspense of disbelief at several different levels. Ria-chan is such an unbelievable character.

And this season is hitting dangerously low concentrations of Kuroneko.

Star Driver episode 12's battle scene is worth watching!

But yeah, I watched the entire thing and I have to agree with the people who say Star Driver is best enjoyed through Youtube videos.

Is Hanasaku Iroha any good? I remember seeing a thread on it a while back but no one really talks about it anymore. Is it worth watching?

If you like some slice of life with drama, you may enjoy it. If you are interested in seeing some loyal employees working at a hot spring, watch it.

OreImo S2 is not as good as first season so far. Just feels like all characters reverted to the point where it was beginning of first season.

I started watching the show about 2 weeks ago. But i am really captivated i must admit i haven't watched many slice of life anime before but the characters seem kinda realistic. I love the chemistry between them and the music is also really good. There are some fillers in the middlepart that werent that good but the first season is good there are some heart warming moments. Also this anime is truly beautiful. the way the sea moves and shots from tokyo looks really great. I am now at episode 20 so i need to watch some more but the anime makes me really feel fuzzy inside and that is a good thing. So i recommend watching. Also the first episode comes of really cold but the series warms up pretty fast. So don't think it is all drama and stuff trough the whole serie. Last thing i like to say is that Ohana the main character girl has some really good voice acting.

I kinda liked that and how important dreams of others were to Luffy. Him helping that dog was such a good Luffy moment.

-Assuming the EU is democratic and China is communist, why haven't they condemned Britannia for its human rights violations in Japan? How exactly do international relations work in the world of Code Pizza Hut? There's no UN, nor League of Nations, so where do people go to voice these problems?

The EU is at war with Britannia, although the tv series barely touches on that most of the time. China is just handling their own issues.

-What about the Native Americans, Africans, and Pacific Islanders? I'm guessing racism is still a thing, so are all these peoples still subjugated in the same way Japan was?

I can't remember who controls Africa in Code Geass, but Britannia doesn't have "Areas" inside North America itself, so, even if there's racism, it's likely closer to real world's than Japan's "Area 11" situation.

Why did it take Britannia so long to conquer Japan, then?

They only invaded Japan once Sakuradite became known and relevant.

-How is China still a country if Britain is all power hungry like this? What about India?

In Code Geass' world, they were weaker than in the real world and the royal family got kicked out of Europe to America. It's only after getting there that they become the super powerful Britannia.

-Most importantly, how come Blind Girl can't tell Zero is Lelouch? He barely even modifies his voice. Unless its a huge difference in Japanese and they don't address it in English.

I haven't watched the dub, but I agree that it's kind of weird. IIRC, Zero's voice had a small echo, and Lelouch usually didn't speak as fiercely as he did as Zero, but the voice really wasn't that well disguised.

But what about crushing their dreams and then killing them?

But then you don't get to see them wallow in despair begging for someone to snuff their lights out. As they wander the wastelands with soulless eyes, you get to laugh at them for eternity. There is nothing better in life.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Until they do a face heel turn and become Luffy's ally.

Needed to pay for his mother's hospital bills. It was the only way.

I was hoping for some Big Boss-esque story about him forming his own Outer Heaven for detached and disillusioned mermen pirates. That big sea cow thing could have been the Metal Gear analogue!
