Spring Anime 2017 |OT| Don't be a SukaSuka for Gacha

Theme or OP as a whole ?

You're still supremely wrong either way.

How is Sakurada Reset anyway ? Have seen but a glimpse of impressions on it round here.
Doesn't matter could be the song or visuals plus song. This season's OP/EDs suck on a whole though.

To be honest I find it to be kinda boring and the MC is a bit of a know all goody two shoes ass. That said I'm still watching because I'm curious about the premise of a town of people with mundane to fantastic super powers.

My favorite this season is either Attack on Titan or Laughing Salesman. Laughing Salesman is probably the "best" but Attack on Titan lives up to the first two OP with the same energy.

Probably because most either dropped it already or can't watch it because Amazon. I dropped it 5 minutes into episode 2 because the way episode 1's stinger was resolved was such an unbelievably idiotic nonsense, that I'm still mad. (And no one has told me yet if the remaining episode would have made it 'better' :p)
Otherwise it was extremely slow and dialog heavy with extremely pedestrian direction and awful, pretentious dialog.
In other words: a boring waste of time.

Which is a shame, because the premise seemed genuinely interesting.

This is a good opportunity to link to Sakuga Blog's two-part examination of the noteworthy opening and ending sequences this season.

I am especially fond of JD Bahi's Atom the Beginning OP and Hiroyuki Moriyama's Laughing Salesman OP.
I'll have to take a look at this once I get home, seems interesting.

No it does not. And I wouldn't recommend anyone watch this show.

Its really good. Im surprised people are not liking it, how can people be so cold and heartless to not see school kids forming clubs to save the lives of their precious peers and kids? Not everything can be death and gore like Shingeki.

You guys sure aren't selling me on the show. ;p

Warau Salesman - best OP,
AoT OP - best comedy skit,
And I've no clue about best ED cause it's all more or less tepid. LWA maybe.

HOW GOOD? SO GOOD.
I mean it can look pretty, doesn't mean I want to watch a show whose characters and plot on the two episodes I watched bored me. If later in the season everybody is pimping this show out and it ends up being the better fantasy show over virgin soul, then awesome. But I'll wait for further impressions

It sorta is. It's not particularly good but it is better than Virgin Soul despite looking ugly as shit most of the time.

If you're watching the show I'll read your impressions as the season goes on. I'm game but I wasn't impressed with the episodes that released like 1 or 2 seasons ago

I'll watch Gran Blue when they kill off the mightily annoying, flying piece of crap/ highly pitched sound waves.

And the protag.

...

Or when they change the name to Grand Blue.

You mean a gacha game considers trying to get people to spend money on it more important than creating a rich, unique story? I never would have guessed!
To be fair, it probably has more story than the Fire Emblem games that I've played... and those games are basically waifu simulators that you don't need to gacha for.

He's not exactly "trapped" though.
Unlike most cases of anime genderswapping, it wasn't an accident. Unless I'm forgetting something, according to the final fate event of the old SSR Cagliostro, he just willingly created a female body when he needed to leave his original ailing body in order to survive. Cagliostro also has had to recreate her body many times since then and just stuck with the little girl form every time.
It can be pandering and interesting at the same time. Cagliostro has quite an intriguing backstory and is not "a man trapped in a little girl's body". But how would you know anything when you admitted skipping all the story parts?

The main story is nothing to write home about, but the world building is extremely good. It's a game with over 100 characters and a lot of them are getting development through unique story events which are like 1-2 hours visual novels. Cygames is certainly putting a lot of efforts into the writing, whether it is good or not is another matter.

Oh sure, I'm sure all of these characters are more than their tropes. But I think it's fair to say that the game is as anime as any other recent JRPG.

Don't think I've ever seen the venue, just stayed in a business hotel near the shop.
In the video, it feels like you probably wouldn't notice it. It's like a sign posted on the railing of the stairs down to the basement.
You should go to one of these concerts when you go back though. Even the small daily shows seem intense. lol

---
You know, the documentary makes me wonder why no one has made a comiket documentary, spending a year with a doujin circle and following the process of them picking whatever porn parody to draw, producing the book, and then setting up a table. Although I guess Genshiken basically covered that already.

Ain't got time for ticket lottery BS for real life idols ;p

I’m not sure what to say about this end stretch at this moment since I’m usually pretty terrible about articulating what is going on in my head.

Story wise, it really sucks that the story was cut short and it’s very apparent from how it ended. What we did get for an ending (last few episodes) was pretty emotionally charged full of self-doubt, hopes, dreams and really took an introspective look into the characters minds and what they were thinking and feeling at the end of it all.

It’s hard not to understate how awesome the soundtrack for the show is. There were some really powerful tracks for EDs in the show, as well as a background track used towards the end.

A few of my favs right there.

The show on a whole was an awesome roller coaster ride examining human relations and how they affect one another. Good, bad and indifferent all the same. As stated in the Show, Nana and Hachi take different approaches to their relationships, but they have the same basic human needs that we all do. The ebb and flow of these ships was pretty intense at times and the background musical overlay was awesome. I actually wish there was more of a musical showcase, but the infusion we did get was excellent, and again, this must have been a sacrifice of them ending the show when they did. I’ll think of more to say later, but I;m still on the way down from the ending..

Either way, this show was excellent!

The world needs more college+/mature animes, lol.

Granblue seems to be about some male protagonist that looks like he came out of a vat of male protagonists and not the titty monsters so why would anyone watch that?

The music in this show is good. The pizza stealing montage was pretty funny. Oh hey, random ghost friend at the end!

I'm hoping they explain more about the god eyes selection process or whatever later on, though they seem to be such a big part that it seems pretty likely.

Why is Akko doing "research" on the Words when Ursula knows them all already (except the last?), indeed, even has a poster of them in her room?

Did they really decide to go commit larceny because the fifth word has to do with "tradition" and Appleton is "traditional"?

When are Andrew and Akko gonna fuck?

Why does Louis threaten to break a PRICELESS ARTIFACT OF THE SCHOOL TO WHICH HE BELONGS?

I thought it was odd that Toronto's Hot Docs would program an NMB48 documentary, but after watching it, I can see why it'd be worth watching compared to the other AKB docs. It's still fairly generic in terms of trying to sell the music with concert footage, but the film is framed by a member who likes to quote Nietzsche because she sees being an idol as akin to having an existential crisis about the nature of "the self". The fact that NMB is apparently the least popular group helps as well, because even the most successful member of the group is basically dirt compared to the main AKB members, so it just shows how success is completely relative in such an industry. They also went out of their way to show people who just had enough and decided to quit the business altogether.

Anyway, watching the film made me think that I was watching a live action version of Wake Up, Girls, so I thought I'd mention it here. lol

(The funny part was that they were showing one of the elections (2015, I believe), and of course all the girls features were basically disappointed because no one likes their group, but it just reminded me of the surreal nature of the entire process... like the fact that they have to kick off all the underaged girls from the stage at a certain point because you're not allowed to show teenagers on TV after 9pm or whatever)

Lol...

Just booked a APA hotel in Osaka for the first January week which is like on the other side of the official NMB48 shop there.
Now I want to go there as well.

Didn't realize it until I did a little Google Maps check there, mainly booked the hotel because it was close to Dotonbori. Though not sure if I have that much time for it with all the planned day trips to Kyoto, Hiroshima and Kure.

This was much better. Legit cool fight, Ichijo is awesome and the end was cute.
I was surprised that the 'evil organization' was (seemingly) taken care of just like this, but I kind of doubt the conflicts are over, especially with Naitos remark at the end.
Overall my feelings are still mixed. While the individual parts of it are certainly good, it's mood-whiplash feels scattershot and does not do it any favours (and I generally don't mind mood-whiplash in my anime).
We'll see where this ends up, but I feel like this is better seen as an action anime with slice-of-life elements and not the opposite.

Rage of Bahamut S2 04

This show is a feast for the eyes. God damn, Mappa is putting in work. Can't say the same effort is put towards the story though.
Certainly a fun watch however, but where the hell is FAVAROOOOOO!

Why u no join AnimeGAF trip ;P

I wish I could and really wanted it but the economy - we are too successful!

Also lol, at that street view image. Did they just put some fans there to cool down the construction worker in the small trench? I'm also always impressed how labour intensive everything in Japan is. I'm counting seven constructor workers doing some simple work on a pipe there + 2 police officers.

despite the ending being cut short, it resolves decently enough given the situation with the manga creator.

the kicker was about 6 episodes from the end the previews started referring to the series as season 1, meaning they were green lit for a season 2 at that point that was cancelled due to the author's illness :(

It's also quite depressing that the end implies that
Goth Nana died.

but yeah the soundtrack to the series is great, the best part is that they actually did tours as the bands in japan for a few years after this series came out lol. It's great to put on a song like Winter Sleep (ending 4) and have people ask me what band it is and I have to explain that it's a japanese band despite being in english lol.

I guess you love the show and yea, they is few show like this which discuss a mature romance during after high school period of life. Might be one of my favourite anime at the time when I watch it and still one of the top when talking about the mature anime side.

GBF has plenty of titty monsters to choose from, I have no doubt the anime will deliver.

Magisa better show up or I'm gonna have a fit.

My favourite OPs this season are probably Boruto, MHA, and Love Tyrant. Virgin Soul's is amazing to look at but the music is just bad, and AoT makes me laugh every time I see it so that's probably worth something. I honestly can't think of any standout EDs this season but I'm sure there's one I'm forgetting.

The Eccentric Family S2E4

A more chilly episode, with plenty of tanuki foolery and family matters. It's my theory that the 'lost room' of his father
is inside the magical shogi board, that's what happened with her at the end of the episode. In fact they may use that room to fly in the next episode (just looking at the preview).

Oh yes, I really like Virgin Soul's OP aesthetically, reminds me a lot of Persona 5 and that's a plus on my book, but the music is insufferable. I had the same problem with the first OP, which also looked fantastic. Hopefully they'll drop the heavy metal on the second cour if there's a new OP.

True, but wher was
Ren, Takumi and Reara?
All notible exclusions from the ending. They weren't even mentioned... Sucks big time about the auther's health and we really will never know what happened to
Nana and those others
Not to mention Black Stones

Yeah, shows like this, Clannad, Spice and Wolf, Honey & Clover and Emma are few and far between...

I actually was really into the music for Genesis's OP. It's just this time it went a little too far into the metal direction and instead of being the kinda goofy English-Japanese mix it's just unintelligible screamo, while I'd say Virgin Soul's has a better visual aesthetic though. But yeah hopefully there's a second OP for the second half and maybe we can reign the metal in at least a bit.

You can't just learn them, you need to have some transcendental experience and gain enlightenment or some shit.

Why does Louis threaten to break a PRICELESS ARTIFACT OF THE SCHOOL TO WHICH HE BELONGS?

It was just some old prop, I think, not the real grail. Bet Croix made the whole thing up.

Today I found about Re:Creators, was intrigued by the concept since I like meta takes on fiction and crossovers, and despite a cliché start it's starting to click into place nicely.

The scene with Meteora talking about her game felt extra poignant to me, since while her game is a standalone thing that can be played anything, I've been worrying a lot about an online game I care about possibly going offline someday...

I wonder if that show has enough of a pull around here to get its own |OT|... topics like that are how I found out about shows like Log Horizon, which I came to love.

The military outfit girl is totally the protagonist's OC trying to avenge a scapped character project, isn't she?...

This is what, 22 episodes correct? I guess Rei Hiroe saying he wrote too much talking and exposition for episode 4 kind of makes it slightly less aggravating but not much.

The piano during the long conversation at least helps move the scene slightly faster a little.

Nina the Horny Dragon and Her Sexy Demon Episode 4

I love this show. So far my AOTS with Kado. Still need to dip into a couple shows I just haven't had the time for but glad to see this second season be just as entertaining as the 1st.

Atom the Beginning Episode 3

I was really apprehensive about this show at first but now I think it is a damn shame how far this is flying under the radar

Seven Mortal Sins Episode 3

I think this episode was a very accurate portrayal of Miami. THis show is so bad but the animated boobs I could draw myself keep me watching
