Wasn't this always destined for the 360, but problems between SE and MS were holding it up?
You are correct, and Sony never mentioned it being exclusive just that it would be the only console you can get it for on launch.

Lol, This is not big news.

Squareenix are dishonest disloyal bastardfucks when it comes to exclusivity, they always have been. They go where the money is.

You could use your PC account on the 360, and vice versa. Pretty sure it didn't require Gold either.
Really? Alright, played a bit of FFXI again a few months ago and thought I heard you couldn't.

Good. :D

Square-Enix just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Final Fantasy XIV, nor will they purchase any of Square-Enix's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square-Enix has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square-Enix, publicly apologize and cancel Final Fantasy XIV for Xbox 360 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
Never gets old :lol

So unless the 360 version launches on the same day as the PS3, then Sony haven't lied or misled.

Didn't mislead my ass. They were trying to mislead people so that they would go for the PS3 version as it will be "first".

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for PS3. Sony has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a PS3. Except if they want to play MGS4. Which will also come to 360 at some point.

The age of Sony is done"

This isn't really news since they even said that they are developing it for xbox360 and are working out some kinks with MS regarding live etc.

So can we expect that all 3 versions will play on the same servers (we know PS3 and PC will)? Would be really cool to have a GAF guild and no matter what system you are on we can play together.

This is the reason i visit gaming side.

Good. MMOs get their life and fan following from a huge population. I'd rather have this as a multiplat than something random like Versus.

Not surprising. Just hope all platforms can play together (i'd assume so).

Didn't FFXI 360 require XboxLive though? Like you couldn't log into your FFXI account on PC if you made it on 360? That seems annoying, hope that doesn't happen with PSN as I want to be able to use both platforms.

FFXI 360 didn't require Gold, didn't give MS a kickback, and worked on PS2/PC servers. This is precisely the holdup for XIV; MS doesn't want to extend the same deal again.
Both Square and MS have really strong positions; world's second-biggest pure subscription MMO vs. strongest platform in NA. If it wasn't worldwide servers, I could see SE cutting a Monster Hunter-style deal for the NA version, but as it stands it's probably just gonna fester unless FFXIII X360 is a runaway hit or MS decides they want to shore up Japanese support again.

It was announced as PC/360 first, with the PS3 announcement only coming later. :lol Trying to make fanboy hay out of this is really, reaaaaaaally stretching.

Cross-platform gameplay? It would kick ass.
That would be pretty epic. Or how about Battlefield 3 with cross-platform gameplay where fanboys of each platform would really get to see who's who. I would pay big moneyz for that. :D

Anyone who makes a big deal of this likely never cared about the game itself to begin with. If they did, they'd know the game was originally planned for the 360, but conflicts with Microsoft over how they'd handle it have held that back since the beginning.

Anyone who is saddened/angered by news of more supported platforms should stay away from this game. Seriously. It's not going to be the game for you.

FFXI says hi.

I was under the impression this was always the case but something happened with XBL's structure that caused the game to fall out of production on 360. Is this wrong?

So awesome if PS3 and 360 players could play as one.

Or divide the world in half.

i'd be willing to debate that _this_ is the reason for the disagreements between the companies.

I wonder if MS is a stickler for Gold or a stickler for a kickback or a stickler for cross platform. There is precedent for all three between them, and SE is probably not bending to MS for any of those three. I think MS would take a kickback and open up the other two. But that would mean less profit per user with Live users than others, so SE won't like that either.

I was always under the assumption that there were only online policy barriers for the 360 that was holding back an announcement for the 360. If it was the case, glad they seemed to have sorted it out.

I honestly didn't want MS involved. Their stupid online policies will just screw up the process.

Probably a timed exclusive.
Rapture (FFXIV) was originally a 360/PC title at first anyway, so this isn't surprising.

Shoot, outside of Nintendo, exclusives don't exist. It might be 3 months or a few years but it's going to get released in some shape, form, or name on a competitor's console :lol

This linkedin profile doesn't really confirm anything. It just says that SE was aiming to get this on 360 to begin with, which is already known, and pretty easy to understand considering it's being developed with tools created for the purpose of cross-platform development.

In other words, the whole thing is just one website trying to get hits and spark fanboy tears and wars.

It would be nice if next time there were a thread that "confirms FFXIV for 360" it included information that actually confirmed FFXIV was going to be released on 360, i.e. that the Live-related shenanigans (a.k.a. Microsoft being a pain in the ass) were resolved so the game could come out.

Wow...I thought no one cared because it was an online FF? Anyways wasn't it basically known to be PS360 game at its unveiling?

In other news, Resident Evil 5 is coming to Xbox 360.

Pay-to-play games operate outside Xbox Live.
