Why hath we forsaken Square?

Square Enix absolutely killed it. What a conference. SE seems so focused and determined these days. What a nice change from the SE of a few years ago that was barely functional. Excellent diversity of Western and Japanese titles too.

Also, Hashimoto is the best.

this is fucking crazy... what the hell is going on.

Pretty much my sentiments. Although personally SE and Beth are tied (Nier just got me super pumped, while it's hard to outlclass that Fallout demo).

EA and Nintendo need to step it up.
Mirrors Edge 2 was the saving grace for EA.

Nintendo is the real loser of this year's E3.

What a joke of conference.

Missed the conference as I was having a family meal.
Any more news on final fantasy 7 remake?

Caught some news here and there.

Looking at some of the scores people are giving each conference.

If the ones I've seen I thought MS did really well but most posters seen to think otherwise.

Square did well and I hope they keep this up. I'm excited for Nier and Deus EX MD.

As for the conferences overall.

Sony 9/10
Bethesda 8/10
Square Enix 8/10
Microsoft 7/10
EA 6/10 (pretty much what I expected)
Ubisoft 6/10 (pretty much what I expected)
Nintendo (haven't watched it)

My scores for all E3 conferences

Bethseda - 8/10
Microsoft - 5/10
EA - 2/10
Ubisoft - 6/10
Sony - 9.5/10
Nintendo - 2/10
Square-Enix - 8/10

Just kitten, I think all the conferences were good.

But EA > Ubisoft

Awww man I fell for it at the end, I really thought they were gonna announce something Chrono Trigger related..

This was my only disappointment really, especially after they used Chrono Trigger music in that pre-E3 hype short.

For the rest I was very pleasantly surprised.

Like some others have said, the SE seen here felt like their old selves and in a way this press conference seemed meant to consciously deliver the message that they are back to cater to their JRPG loving audience (and not just their new Western audience, who are still being looked after as well).

This...wasn't great. The games themselves were great but the presentation was poor. Plus it went on WAY too long.

Was this written before or after you said Neogaf sucked sony's dicks after we weren't content with the new scenes and information of the Nintendo Live Event?

Nice conference, a solid B.

I'd actually rank this press conference over Bethesda's. The number of great titles they showed off out shined Bethesda's in my opinion. Cringy presentation notwithstanding.

So, as far as PS4 JRPGs coming from Squeenix, we have...

  • Nier
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Star Ocean 5
  • Kingdom Hearts 3
  • Project Satsuna

Am I missing anything? That's pretty damn good. Square-Enix cynicism: drastically reduced.

So that was Square. They really have a great line-up, but that presentation was truly awful. You really can't do a presentation like in this day. They got the games though, so I can't complain too much.

Nintendo World Championship 9.0
Bethesda 8.5
Microsoft 7.5
EA 6.0
Ubisoft 7.0
Sony 9.5
Nintendo 6.5
Square 7.0

Fun times, good E3.

That was.... Ok.
The biggest problem is that it felt a lot like EA last year "We have some cool projects but most of them are really early on so we have next to nothing to show".
That final reveal was just ridiculous, some new RPG by a new dev and they just showed some static early screenshots

It's a C+ that gets a "OMG a new Nier by the same key member AND Platinum games?!?!?" bonus = Solid A

I can't be mad at Square since we're finally getting FF7 Remake but...

You can't tell me there were more people clamoring for a Nier sequel than Chrono Trigger.

Square-Enix - Some great content, but awful format. Short on real gameplay footage, high focus on trailers & talking heads.
+Just Cause 3 looks downright outstanding. Love it, love it, love it.
+Hitman sounds neat. A polished take on Early Access development?
+Sure, I guess Kingdom Hearts 3 is sharp.
+Deus Ex looks hot.
+Tomb Raider still fancy looking, but should it really be launching the same day as FO4?
+GO as a franchise sounds super promising.
-Bleh Final Fantasy
-Bleh JRPGS
-Bleh mobile
-Bleh Nier
-No gameplay demos, just trailers.

B-. Some stuff I really liked, buried in a bad conference structure & JRPGs.

Howzabout you save yourself (and, mercifully, us) some time and boil this shit down to two bullet points, chief:

+western games
-japanese games

They are spending all that $$$ on console JRPG, hopefully they have reasonable expectations and budget for these game and don't stop if they get burnt.

oops I misread something

Really early on? Most of these games are coming out this or next year. Even the final reveal he said was coming out next year. I find it hard to believe but that is what they said.

Very heavily suggested Level5 RPG probably to be revealed later this year.
And based on Verendus - a blockbuster JRPG most probably developed by Sony Japan.

Mirrors Edge 2 was the saving grace for EA.

Nintendo is the real loser of this year's E3.

What a joke of conference.

Pretty much. EA had some compelling software to show and talk about. Nintendo had Mario Maker and Star Fox, the former of which has been talked about to death already, and the latter of which looks like a lower budget affair with a janky control scheme.

Slow the fuck down Square Enix loooooool. Too much good shit in my face!

Did they just use Frog's theme in their hype video and ended up not announcing anything related? That's a dick move....

I missed Bethesda, so here's mine

Sony > Square Enix > Microsoft > Ubisoft (Not many games, but a great presentation, despite Jason Derulo) = EA (It had some games in there) > Nintendo

I would say

Sony - 9.5/10 (the pace and the reveals were on point)
Bethesda - 8/10
NWC - 8/10
Microsoft - 7/10 (Ford GT was a little much, but BC saved the day)
Square - 7/10 (sorry but Sony gets FF7R credit for going first)
Ubisoft - 5.5/10 (I took off 2 points for Jason Derulo... could have taken off more)
EA - 4/10 (So very extremely boring)
Nintendo - 4/10 (very underwhelming. It's my fault for expecting so much more. As bad as EA)

I guess the general disinterest for DQ in this thread is an indication as to why DQ is basically ignored by SE in the west. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Great conf and good E3 in general. Most scores here pretty much sum E3 up. It had its wow moments, it had its (very) low moments, only thing missing is laughable stage stuff, athough Meme man, hoopgawd, fake Usher and Aisha offered some good stuff.

Funny that the western part to me was meh. Just Cause is fun the first hours of madness, then it gets boring. Hitman I'm not sure what the game will actually be this time; MMO? Early Access? Tomb Raider characters looked pretty meh after those Uncharted ones. Deus Ex was the only good thing to come from that side.
