I keep thinking all the Versus teasing by Kagari and other in-the-know folks are just trolling so they can bask in the collective pain, sorrow, and tears everyone will experience.

Well, they confirmed they're working on the next FF game. Whether that's Versus or not we don't know. I'm sure they are working on whatever comes after Versus, but I haven't seen them hint at it yet. Not explicitly at least.
When was that? Not that I doubt it, they seem to be always working in two mainline FF at a time.

They said they are announcing a new Final Fantasy at E3. It could be something brand new or it could be Versus XIII (renamed, whatever). I doubt it's something brand new at this point.

At 150-200k, it did about as well as FFXI PS2 in Japan already. Let's see if FFXIV PS3 does better...

August has ARR and September has KH1.5... you'd have to be out of your mind to think that FFXHD would come out then...

Oct-November-December especially seems more feasible now that LR was delayed beyond that.
Would be funny if LR was delayed to let FFX|2 breathe a little. It's like SE is almost saying, "We know X and X-2 HD will kick ass....more than LR!"
November and December is not feasible. LR is delayed BECAUSE Nov and Dec is a stupid release time.
Last November Yoshihisa Hashimoto confirmed they had a game in development using Luminous:
Granted Luminous is going to power multiple games and not just FF, but considering they showcased Luminous before saying that they were preparing a new FF back at the Sony conference it's pretty safe to say that there's another FF game besides Versus coming that'll use Luminous. Unless you think Versus has moved entirely to Luminous or something, which is pretty unlikely since it went into full production in 2011 yet last November they said they weren't on anything full-time using Luminous since it wasn't complete yet.
Basically, pre-production.
The only way to truly be surprised is to expect the worst!

If Versus isn't shown, I propose a worldwide, coordinated cancellation of all SE preorders.

"Future of Final Fantasy conference recap" on Wednesday? God, if it weren't because I have exams all of next week, I'd be dying of excitement. Too bad I have crappy crappy exams that I can't get my mind off.
I really, really want Versus. But honestly, I'm a bit nervous that it won't show - even with all the reasurrance. Or rather, I'm nervous it won't be shown to the public, and only be talked about in the recap with no footage. Wouldn't it steal XIV's thunder if it were shown? Wouldn't that be suicide, since they're wanting to drag as much money through XIV as possible?
