i interviewed yoshinori yamagishi (squenix) at E3 on radiata stories, and i got him to comment on a possible VP sequel... i've interviewed him before and he's hinted, but this one was pretty strong:

GameSpy: Did I hear you referring to the Valkryie Profile series? There's only one Valkryie Profile game. I was wondering if that means we'll be seeing a sequel?

Yamagishi: I would like to talk about that for about an hour. But understand that I can't release any information right now. But you can guess.

given that he said that RS was developed by a different team concurrently with SO3 (just how big is tri-ace, anyway?) it might even be current-gen, if really late. that's just conjecture, of course...

WHAT THE FUCK!

Ferricide if that's a tease without payoff, I suggest we both storm Square Enix offices without mercy!!!!! If not then, LONG LIVE SQUARE ENIX! HAIL THE WADA! :D

oh God, the idea of a Valkyrie Profile sequel...

...and it better be in the same fucking style

"What's that? You say you want cel-shading, lolis, and a card battle system? Okie dokie!"

judging from yamagishi's attitude i doubt it was, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's acutally happening, or anytime soon. when i interviewed him like 2 yrs ago for star ocean for the first time i asked him about it and he left me with the impression it was happening then, too, albeit less so. i was surprised when radiata was announced.

however, you have to think that the team that made SO3 if truly different than radiata, has (a) been sitting on their asses for awhile or (b) making another game... that's why i think VP2 could be current gen.

there was a bunch more VP fanwank from me to yamagishi after the interview that i didn't bother recording or transcribing ^_^;; he remembered me when i pointed out i was the guy that asked him to sign the US version of VP a couple years ago.... yamagishi was really upbeat in general and seemed very pleased at how much i liked VP. as did the other squenix guy with him, who didn't actually answer any questions.

the other signature (the kanji one) is shiba, the drakengard guy. he worked on VP as well.

assuming that suggestions of sequels are true just leads to disappointments like

CHRONO BREAK

or

FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDR-- er, wait

Sounds hot, but let's try to not have a million plot holes and unfinished story strings in this one, okay, Tri-ace?

Did you get the best ending? It's pretty annoying trying to get it, but if you play on hard and get the most difficult ending, the game feels a lot fuller (more dungeons and more plot summary) and is a lot more fun to play than if you're just playing on easy or normal.

That said, I'm *REALLY* excited. Loved the original VP and have been hoping for a sequel for years.

Oh, I went through all the work to get the A ending (and damn, it was worth it,) but in the main story itself there are many, many plot holes. Belenus' vampire crap-we are given like three paragraphs about this vampire that has attempted to steal the soul of his maid-and then that's it. How does Lawfer die? What happens to Arngrim's brother? What exactly is the point of Lyseria? When Jelena is turned into an Einherjar the kingdom should be in chaos, but nothing comes of it when you return to the town. Why does Brahms have Hrist and what's he need her for? and there are tons of other things that aren't touched on or returned to. There was a lot of room for improvement in the plot, but if they're planning to address some of this stuff in the sequel then my mind will be relieved

Sweeeet, possibly VP2 =O. Time to start the raving horde of people to attack SE headquarters if this doesn't happen.

Some of the stuff is supposed to remain sort of random in the story, Belenus' storyline for example. The story is also meant to focus on that character specifically anyway.

For Lawfer and Arngrim's brother, I don't remember anything in the English version of the game about what happened to them (I don't think it was in the Japanese version either) but two volume manga for VP explains that Lawfer allowed him to escape as I recall and was forced to confront his father and was killed I believe (I'll have to reread the manga again soon).

As for the whole Hrist and Brahms thing, I thought it was explained that they fought against each other at one time (with Arngrim at the battle too which is why he mentions something about Arngrim when he meets him) and it was meant to be a trophy or sorts.

Anyway, been a long time since I played it so I think I need to play the game again soon. :D

Please be true! VP is only second to Vagrant Story on my list of favorite PS1 RPGs. I could care less what console they put it on, I am there instantly.

I heard a rumor like ages ago that tri-Ace was planning a Star Ocean 1 remake for PSP? Anyways, say what you want, but a VP sequel would actually work really well with PSP (especially since that system needs some new games). tri-Ace should make an all-new DS game, they'd actually be willing to use that system's "features" in a way that's beneficial and innovative.
