Square Enix TGS report

Snow... Cloud... Zidane... Tidus... I don't know I mean it just sort of goes along with typical FF character names. I like it, it's simple and it works and it's nothing "badass" which I approve of.

Yeah, not only Snow, but I got to say I'm not really feeling the weather/nature related names. It's ok for one character or something, but naming so many of them like that feels forced. It sounds like something you do in sixth grade when you get random foreign words and name the characters you create with them. :/

At least in XIII they're supposed to be code names, at least for Lightning anyway.

I didn't have a problem with it in X and I admit it's because I didn't know those words before playing the game. In Zidane, Squall and Cloud's games it wasn't the case for the rest of the cast (I know there were others in those games that fit this standard, like Laguna).

Lightning and Snow are the most jarring to me. Since they're both probably code names (Lightning confirmed to be already) I hope it will all make sense in the end, Kagari.

Still, I'm not a fan of naming characters like that even in the older games, it feels juvenile imo.

Okay, so since next week's Jump has revealed the names of the FFXIII guy, and the characters from Versus XIII.... next week's Famitsu might reveal the voice cast for FFXIII. That's how it works with Dissidia anyway. Jump reveals the characters, and Famitsu expands on the feature and provides more screens, details and the cast info.

How long do you think it'll be till we get some direct-feed shots of Agito like the one in Jump?
Famitsu usually put some of their articles pictures online right?

I don't really care honestly. We're talking about a 2010 game here, and it's only 2008. :lol

last I checked S-E dated it for 2009, and I don't think it'll be delayed up to 2010. a demo in March pretty much means the game will be in it's final stages imo.

unless you are talking about the NA/EU/360 releases.

Pretty sure he meant AgitoXIII.

I think everyone knows FFXIII will be out around Fall 2009 in Japan, which means 2010 sometime for US/EU D:

We're talking about FFAgitoXIII.
FFXIII is still fall 09 in Japan.

Square-Enix ~ TGS 2008

Great posters! Thanks.

I don't know if these are from TGS (or even new), but Gamekyo has a trailer for Chocobo Tales 2 and Chocobo's Dungeon DS up, and they're awesome even if old :D

I love the art direction of CT2, it looks incredible. And I pray to God Chocobo Dungeon DS makes it into English (or the Wii one makes it to PAL :-\). Anyway, sorry if old.

The Wii game looks so nice, I'm going to look around if I can get the first one for around £15.

The reactions about "Snow" are rather funny.

Wonder what did the people think back then when they heard about "Cloud".

You have to admit, they could have come up with something better, for Snow that is.

I do agree that his name doesn't quite fits the image.

But yeah, many of these SE names are rather peculiar, and I don't think they fullfil their original ideas (as might be seen in Japan) for western gamers.

Anyway, Yuki (Japanese for Snow) is a name used for males or females, so it could be they think it sounds right too in english.

I'm going with Ducky~ no way this is released before 2010 with all that's going on at S-E

AND there is a possibility that Nomura is working on a sequel to It's a Wonderful World

Jeez, Nomura... working on too many things...

I don't really think Nomura is working on too many things at all. His current schedule is pretty clear. I'm only listing projects where he has a direct role in management and/or directing.

Stuff that's pretty much out of the way:

- KH Coded is pretty much done. (Director)
- Dissidia will be done in a month at most. (Creative Producer)
- KH DS will be out in Feb, so it'll be done in 2-3 months. (Director)
- FFVIIACC will be out in March, but we all know it's probably been done for a year or more now. (Director)

Stuff he's heavily involved with now:

- KH PSP is probably a big focus now, since it's already playable and has to come out sometime in 2009. (Director)
- The 3rd Birthday is being developed by Hexa Drive, so most likely Nomura will have even less of an involvement compared to Dissidia. (Creative Producer)
- Versus XIII is probably his biggest focus now, and once he finishes with the KH games he'll be concentrating 100% on it. There's a ton of work left and he's responsible for every aspect of the project. (Director/Story/Game Design)

The weather names are beginning to get boring to me, but oh well.

I like his design, just wish they released character art of the characters.

That too. I would love some handdrawn art of Stella.

Besides Nomura making the main character designs for this, in what way would that delay the FF games?

The game was developed outside of SE, at Jupiter, so if there is a sequel, the dirty work will be done there. If anything, the one suffering from a delay would be this one. Not the FFs or KHs. Don't swap around the priorities.

I guess Snow is a fitting name...not surprising though.

the close up of Stella's face looks SO GOOD

I can imagine he's already working on 2-3 other new projects already. That guy is hella prolific. And SE wants him attached with as many projects as he can it seems. Preferably one of them is the game that first made him popular...

Although looking at the incoming DS releases, they certainly should have more projects under the wraps.

Because currently, of what I know of, the SE's DS lineup consists of:

2008
- 3 Chocobo games
- Valkyrie Profile (11/01)
- Pingu (11/06)
- Chrono Trigger (11/24)

2009
- FFCC:EoT (01/29)
- KH 358/2 (Feb)
- DQ IX (March)

So all 2009 fiscal year is unknown for us.

There are many games that could be down in the pipeline such as DQVI, FFV-VI, TWEWY 2, any original IP, maybe some other sequel, Mana maybe?

The case is that no matter how busy the big teams are, following their history and busines approach, they must use people to put games out on DS between big releases, their employees have to eat while making those "5 year long" games :p

KH DS is in February... BBS had better be soon after D: April or May would be good...
But watch them release it in March along with everything else, heh.

March is way too early. Don't expect the game before late Summer or Fall. Nomura said that even though it's playable at events now, it's still a long way from being done.

KH DS and Dissidia were first playable at Jump Festa last year in Dec. So if the standard turn-around time from first playable to release is a year, then I would say BbS should be released in the Sept to Dec window in 2009.

Why not? Outsourced collaborations by S-E always seem to be developed a lot faster than their internal projects. FFIV DS was announced and released within 7 months. You gotta understand, Parasite Eve is not a huge franchise like FF and KH is, so there's no reason for them to hype it up or have playable builds a year in advance to show off, etc. We'll probably hear a lot more about it sometime next year in mags, and then it'll be released.

That makes sense. But I was worried because there wasn't a 2009 at the end of the TGS trailer

Well, I don't know when it'll be out. I'm just saying it's not unlikely or impossible that it'll be out in 2009. But that doesn't mean it will be, since we have no idea how large a project it is anyway.

Having more projects for Nomura to work on would have an affect (adversely or not) on all properties~

KH 358/2 is looking way better than I expected in motion. I'm impressed.

Here's hoping that the multiplayer is fun and that the gameplay doesn't suffer much on DS.

And :lol :lol :lol at the mission results being shown with the Org. XIII elevational thrones. They're way high for no reason (number hierarchy? lol) and I actually always thought they got on top of them by jumping or darkness portals or something, but now they're even more hilarious.
