SSB for 3DS & U - Tourney Mode, Youtube Replay DLC Stages and Mii Costumes (K. Rool)

You're giving them way too much credit in terms of providing discounts. I mean, sure, the cross buy discounts are nice if you're like me and buying the content for both Wii U and 3DS. But the lack of any bundles at all is something I find very disheartening. And yeah, I know that they did have a Bundle #1 and a Bundle #2, but I just laughed when I noticed that Bundle #2 was -- to the penny -- just the cost of Ryu/Roy/Lucas/Dream Land/the new Mii Costumes added together.
Yeah, but the time you save not having to click those extra boxes is time you can use making stacks of cold hard cash!

Regarding villians and cross posting from the ot, I'd add

Ridley (important nemesis to an under represented series, cool design but to hard to incorporate)
Porky (would make a very interesting juxtaposition to Ness and Lucas, different enough from Bowser Jr when it comes to mech driving)
Hades (only one that isn't a recurring villain, but has interesting design and qualities to him, much better than Medusa as well)
Pig Ganon (represents classic Zelda, coo heavy weight with a weapon)

I'd sort of be ok with Dark Samus although I think he'd be pretty lame as a character pick in the roster even though he'd play very different from Samus. Plus we already filled the "dark counterpart" with dark pit (which I hope they'd redesign with his staff for the next game), so it saves us from the eye rolling.

That's it really, I wouldn't add a third party villain, I wouldn't add a villain that doesn't have the protagonist already in. DK and wario are the only series where I'd possibly add an antagonist, but they don't have good foils. K rool is a horrible design and doesn't have any interesting qualities to him, and the other DK villains from jungle beat, returns and tf aren't better either, while captain syrup would be a "who¿?" character without the privilege of actually representing

Smaller franchises like fzero or punch out don't need another character representing them because they're not the most popular and there's no actually interesting additions.

Exactly. Both with Inklings and King K. Rool, everyone's saying "a Mii Fighter outfit doesn't mean anything," but really, it does. This isn't like on-disc outfits, nor is it like the paid DLC Link outfit which is based on an on-disc character.

(At least I can hope for an Agent 3 Inkling, lol.)
Yeah, while its still possible I have to agree: That these costumes were made based on the current ballot votes and Sakurai didn't want to make these characters.

KRool is obviously high up.

Chrom and Loyd could be high up but noone posts about wanting them so you just never see them mentioned on forums.

Hell even the Honey Bear costume sorta looks like Freddy from Five Nights at Freddy's and I know the sheer popularity pf that game has to have that character fairly high up in the polls, tho he would almost (never say never lol) get in. He even has a bowtie. Too suspect. Then again if it was based on it, I'm he'd probably make a offical one. The FNAF creator would let him for free. So I'm probably looking too much into it but that bowtie throws me off.

The other three actual costumes still stand. So far, besides generic costumes the costumes have either been: Mega Man fan service, the "I'm sorry I didn't pick your fighting game character, please accept a mii costume", or cross promotion with Inkling. Majora and Dunban not withstanding since they don't fit in to the above catagories.

Chrom, KRool, and the Tales Of character seem like "I know you want them, but I don't so have this instead" characters.

I really love overlooking into Smash but these are just my thoughts on the matter.

Still no information on server maintenance times from Nintendo.

This patch is really strange. The way it's announced is odd, everything seems so last minute. If not maybe a little rushed.

We know next to nothing about what time it's coming out, prices, or even all the content and it's supposed to be out in Japan by morning, which is only in a few hours...

I'm seriously getting the feeling a Direct was planned and was canceled.
What if it was 1.09 that has the majority of the data? How much space did 1.09 take anyway, if anyone remembers..?

Even if there isn't a direct, why worrt? A direct would usually entail more info like characters. Either way, if it was, those same characters would be out either way at one point.

Oh man. That Honey Bear trailer's going to be incredible!

Obviously, a reference to the character, Sunshine, in Chibi-Robo.

latest

That means if you connect the dots... Chibi-Robo confirmed!

I'd say that Wonder Red still has a shot at being his own character, but Sakurai's recent comment about being less inclined to add characters from franchises with no future kinda throws a shade on Wonder Red's chances.

Looking forward to the glorious return of Duck Hunt on the NX.

To be fair, W101 has a lot of representation for a game that bombed. Two songs & trophies for the entire core crew
except Luka
. I'd say that Wonder Red's popularity would help, but again, Sakurai's recent comment about franchises that likely have no future does kinda lower his chances by a lot.

Hell yeah he would be, but again, I'm afraid that what Sakurai has said pretty much means that Wonder Red has no chance to be playable.

You also claimed "Sakurai said" we wouldn't get two characters from the same company and we wouldn't get any fighting game characters.

There is such a thing as detaching yourself from your own personal desires for the sake of an argument.
.

says the man who insists that King K Rool was the only realistic choice for a new fighter.

Welp, this thread got cleaned a bit I think.....Seriously guys, calm down. Peace and fun is better than proving a point you think is right. Time and place for everything, and some of you have crossed the line.

Would Birdo count as a villain? Mother Brain is the big bad of Metroid but people point to Ridley as a villian so Birdo being the reoccurring boss in SMB2 makes me think that they kind of fall into a very similar role :o

Also, for kid icarus, the gods are kind of all over the place. People seem to accept Hades as a baddie, but where does Viridi fall in the spectrum? All the gods are on pit's side or an enemy at some point in the story :P

While most assume Ganon and Ganondorf when thinking of Zelda, there's actually a few more villains in there to play with such as Ghirahim, Zant, Vaati and, if you include HW, Cia.

Does fire emblem have any notable villains?

Not really. Most of them always die by the end of the game, or by the end of the next game if there's a direct sequel. Aaaaand (big spoiler)
we arguably already have one playable :p

Is anyone expecting a character, even a veteran?

I'm really, really not.
It's definitely way too late for that, unfortunately. Sakurai has always given us time to "prepare" for a character announcement video, but the update is going up sometime within the next five hours.

I like it, but would the constant costume changes be jarring/too difficult for 3DS? Is there a character with frequent complex model changes? Closest I can think is Pacman but I didn't think too hard.
They don't change the model in some cases, there just elements hidden all the time. For example Mario always has his hat in his hand. If he does his taunt, the moment were the hidden hat in his hand and the hat on his head overlap during the animation, they swap the visibility of both. K.Rool would still be a very complex model, since they have to hide a lot of costumes in the case for this idea to work. I think only Little Mac and his hoody come close to this.

Wasnt technically Ryu and Roy supposed to be a "available now" surprise? Granted I am not expecting any character eithet, but just saying.

A update needs to be the Mii Fighters playable online. The costumes could actually work if that was possible. Even if it defaulted you to a specific look for online matches. So long as you have the costume it wouldn't be a big deal.

Yep. They should just let you choose from 6-8 stock Miis that are inoffensive that you can play online. I don't like the fact that there are literally 3 fighters that I can't use online because of reasons that they can work around using stock Miis.

I would buy a costume if I could do that.

I can see that. I mean, the game's never been on a Nintendo console, so it's a game that Nintendo might try to avoid adding. Between Duck Hunt having a "dark brown dog and red duck" palette, and Ryu having an "orange gi, blue headband" one, I feel those were deliberate attempts at sating people wanting Banjo & Kazooie/Goku, despite them being impossible. I don't think I've heard anything about Freddy being a popular Ballot vote, but between the new game, the entire series being pretty popular, and the fact that Shrek and Goku are still apparently estimated to be in the Top 50 for the Ballot, I can see a bunch of people voting for Freddy merely because they like the series, and this is just Nintendo's baffled response.

Or, as javadose said, they could be trying to make a nod to Sunshine from Chibi-Robo!, and the bowtie's a coincidence.

As for your theory for Chrom, K. Rool, and Lloyd, I can see that, unfortunately. I still feel that a few of the costumes don't fit that criteria of "Sorry (s)he wasn't picked" or "Promotional," like Dunban, Akira, or the Flying Man, and as a result, these costumes may not be indicative of anything. But as our old Ridley wounds show, if Sakurai doesn't want a character, he won't budge no matter how many people are requesting the character. I would hope he wouldn't be fervently against K. Rool, and I can't think of why he would be unless he's in the same "too ugly" mindset I see on here. But this is a man that wanted to pick an NES character to reboot for a fighting game, considered Mach Rider, but then decided on the Ice Climbers. And it was a fantastic decision no one saw coming. He definitely works on a level we just don't understand.

Heh, well it's smash. Death is merely an inconvenience. Besides, Bowser's died a few times, quite graphically so if you include the transition to dry bowser XD

The worst kind.......lord perma death!
:P

I thought Ashnard was notable, but I am biased.
Not familiar with him, but a quick image search makes me think he looks a lot like ganondorf with a pet dragon XD

Ooh... do Octolings count as villians? :D

Well, back in the Brawl days, new characters were added with a "hey, this dude was just added, that's neat"

That was Brawl... but, I think the circumstances for this update are a bit different with Iwata passing. There may have been a big deal planned around it, but this Twitter drip feed was what they ended up being able to do with Iwata gone.

You can use them online if you play on a private lobby with friends...

Aaaaany chance this turns out a worldwide update after all, meaning us in the Americas could be playing it hours from now? I know the Smash Facebook page said the 31; I'm just so hype...

Also, whilst we're all here, I'd like to ask how is Ryu?

I've been debating back and forth whether to buy him for my Smash 3DS, but the question is whether he is any good and worth the money? Any opinions would be welcome!

They should be usable in every online mode honestly. Not sure what the issue is considering 3 mario karts work just fine with them.

It has to be an world wide update otherwise online wouldn't work. :P

He is really fun to play as, they integrated the SF mechanics very well into the character. I'd say its worth it.

All those people without friends just have to suffer still, even though there's an easy fix for it.

Even if you have friends to play Smash with, your schedules are not always going to be aligned...

can't sleep it's 3am and want to play as a Mii?

your options:

1. too bad, so sad
2. call ur friends and wake em up

The replay browser actually has a cool menu that opens up that shows default choices for the three Mii types.

They could use that menu and just have the Miis default to that appearance and 1111 if they really needed to water them down that much for the children's eyes.

All these costumes keep making me wish for a Magic Mii fighter.....no Mii Gunner does not count.
Agreed. More movesets for miis would be super appreciated... though actually being able to play online with randoms with them is a notch higher on my personal priority list for Miis :3

Off the top of my head I'm thinking:
* Magic User
* Heavy/Huge Melee Weapon (e.g. axes, hammers, basically something like the ore club)
* Musician :P

As much as I love Birdo, she doesn't have much presence and I wouldn't consider her an all-star character. I mean she's not even in Mario Kart anymore.
The problem with Mother brain is that she's a huge brain in a flask or a giant t-Rex. How is that gonna work as a character?
And while I consider Viridi more of a tsundere sidekick, she could be an interesting character as well, but Hades seems like it fills a more prominent role throughout the game as the big baddie.

And Zelda does have more villians, but they're just not popular/iconic. Vaati is the only recurring one and stars in a handheld game and a "spinoff". The others are more like oh right that guy... And while having Ganon/ganondorf might be sort of redundant, I don't see the problem if they look and play so differently.

And I don't think there's any iconic fire emblem villian, because they change from game to game just like their protagonists.
