STALKER 2 will be Microsoft exclusive

Whew glad it's not Xbox exclusive.

Was already preparing for the onslaught of Sony fanboys saying how the series sucked anyways and they had no intention of playing so it was no loss :pie_eyeroll:

Is this your first time dealing with timed exclusives? They always say this.

Unless MICROSOFT is publishing the game, it'll come to ps5.

No they don't. Just off the top of my head most recently FF16 didn't say it and neither did Kena Bridge Of Spirits from a small indie developer. Every timed exclusive of recent going back is stated outright as such.

Cuphead? Dude, unless it's published by microsoft you're crazy to think stalker, the medium and such won't come to ps5 lmao.

Console launch exclusives

Most of Stalker's fanbase is on PC. GSC can't afford to miss out on all that potential money. Which is likely to be more than what Microsoft can offer in guaranteed money.
Considering how niche STALKER really is, I think they're pretty happy to take their chances and get a hold of some of the money now.

That'd most probably be the case with Hellblade 2.

Between it, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, The Medium, Half-Life: Alyx and MS Flight Sim (to name just a few), there's lots of port-begging happening... almost exclusively from people who spoke how they can't stand port-beggars when it comes to Sony's first party exclusives.

Eh.. pretty typical for a dev of a timed exclusive to act like something is fully exclusive. Usually seems like their contract states that they can't mention they are working on another console version.

True. At the very least, they don't reveal what other console(s) they will eventually release the game on.

Not always. Sometimes they do immediately promote the game as a "timed exclusive", but other times they've kept it nebulous. This might be one of the latter situations.

I remember one of the recent Tomb Raider games (might have been Rise of the Tomb Raider) was promoted as "exclusive" to Xbox One for months, before they confirmed that it would also eventually come to PlayStation 4.

Another good example is the Cuphead situation, as THEAP99 THEAP99 mentioned above.

I would say the entirety of the Stalker fanbase is on PC, since, thankfully and praise jesus, it never came to a console. The entire series if fully PC, designed and made for mouse and keyboard and hardcore as fuck. Hopefully they'll keep this one the same, and just plaster some barelly functional controller support a day before release, but otherwise im hoping they keep the same depth and complexity in its gameplay and design that only mouse and keyboard permits. Making context sensitive actions, auto stuff, magnetism and 4 quickfeatures mapped to a dpad is my greatest fear

For what it's worth, most Microsoft and Sony consoles featuring USB ports allow users to connect a USB keyboard and USB mouse to play certain games.

If it is then I'll believe it's a pure exclusive. Until then, it's timed like cuphead and other timed games where developers didn't mention a release for another platform right away.
I am not saying anything that they are publisher, just went for the info and this is what I saw, so maybe it's possible. Because not much publishers would put game on GamePass day 1. (however it's not GP for PC day one, so there is still doubt that MS is publishing, inside me). But damn I am glad that it's coming, who ever is going to be publisher.

Timed Console Exclusive. Most likely for a full year from when it releases on Xbox/PC.

They don't. Bright Memory Infinite dev made it pretty clear that he will start working on a PS5 version after XSX version is finished. These guys are actually doing the reverse of saying they won't be doing that when asked about the PS5 version. Another example is this guy, he simply does not want to work on another version.

Most timed exclusives are stated as such. Its not typical at all.
And so was this game.

I'm talking about how a dev responds when someone asks about the competing console versions. It's common for them to not ever mention any version but what they have a paid timed exclusive deal on.

Rise was announced 6/9/2014

This article is dated 8/13/2014

Rise Of The Tomb Raider released 11/10/2015

That's a year and three months of knowing Tomb Raider was timed exclusive before its release date.

Likely a timed exclusive. Sony & Microsoft marketing spins want people to assume they won't be able to play certain titles elsewhere through FOMO.

I expect this to come to Steam & PS5 at some point, literally no reason not to especially for a 3rd party developer.

True, though Sony (surprisingly) has been pretty open about timed exclusives as of late. They have clearly highlighted all the games that are timed exclusives -- going as far as two years with Project Athia that doesn't even have a release date at this point or a final title.

Microsoft should just do the right thing and release Gamepass on Steam. The player base is big enough to justify the cut, and it's been proven time and time again that Steam players don't care about Gamepass trough the Microsoft launcher.
Yes they totally can pay 23 studios and 3rd parties for games on 7 dollars a month. Yes Microsoft should become a charity where they give money away to lord gaben. Let's see game pass is probably breaking even now but they should take a 30% loss for lord gaben's fans. Would lord gaben fans pay 15 a month to make up for the cut I don't think so.

The initial announcement a day earlier (August 12, 2014) promoted Rise of the Tomb Raider simply as "exclusive", with no explicit mention of the "timed" aspect.

This was only clarified the next day, after a large amount of community outrage. (Not "months later", as I originally thought...but with the amount of heated discussion, it sure felt like it.) I believe this was the thread here about this, which was later updated when "timed" exclusivity was stated.

Read the first few pages, where many users were questioning whether it would be timed or fully exclusive.

How anti-consumer. I thought Phil said lacking exclusives didn't hurt Xbox and that they were done with this kind of practice?

If this is an actual exclusive and not just timed, congratulations to Microsoft for having a game I want but can't get. I'm still not buying an Xbox.

But if it was Playstation, there would be a full day celebration and articles explaining why this is good for Playstation gamers and how it's good for gaming and how Sony is a godsend for gaming and how Sony exclusivity is better than Microsoft and Nintendo and blah blah.

The wave of coping here
How is it coping?

This is more than likely coming to other platforms that aren't Microsoft owned at a later date despite whatever that headline claims.
Unless I've missed somewhere that Microsoft helped to fund the development of the game. Hell even then that isn't garuntee anymore as there are 1st party Sony titles on PC now.

i hate third party exclusives, taking a game hostage is not ok no matter who does it. if you really want an exclusive either order one and fund the whole project or buy the company that's making it and release the promised games multi_platform and then make new games exclusive.

I hear you, but the service could get millions of more subscribers as well.

The confusion around all these timed exclusive annoucements is always annoying as fuck.....luckily thanks to Microsoft actually starting to invest in Xbox seriously I'll be owning both consoles this gen and I won't have to give it much thought.

Although the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is one of my favorites, I'll have to pass then. I don't have much hope that the game can hold a candle to its predecessors anyway, since games today are built according to success formulas rather than developer visions.
