Star Citizen Pre-Alpha: Hangar Module

I originally had the 350R package and a Starfarer. I switched to the Constellation to get the collector's edition style goodies. I also have a second account with an Avenger in case there are any benefits like hiring additional NPCs or trade benefits (not expecting to actively fly two at once or anything).

Now that the lifetime insurance isn't around any more, I think the best bet is to just get the $40 Aurora package to get the game for less than it'll probably be at retail, lock in that alpha/beta access and just have fun working your way up in the game.

Edit: ha, the original question was edited out. Don't mind me, I'm just sitting here randomly rambling about my ships.

Everything is tsundere to me
Not sure my 7970 is going to run this as well as I would like. I think I am going to try to sell it while the resell prices are decent and grab a 780 ti.

I wouldn't try jumping ship just yet. Mantel implementation will improve performance by quite a bit once it's in there.

Not sure I'd want to join the GAF org, as I already have a couple of networking groups I've promised to join. Wouldn't mind freelancing with you guys though. Anyone gonna need an escort pilot?

I would wait till the game is final. 20nm GPUs should be out by then.

Sorry raticus! I just went ahead and grabbed the avenger and after spending money, I didn't want to hear whether or not I made a mistake :). Thanks for the input though!

Good advice but upgrade fever has already set in. It's been a bit over two years now, I am ready for a new card.
I know that feeling, I almost sold my GTX770 to buy a GTX780Ti...but for what? Do I really need it now? No.

The upgrade would not be big if you have a 7970. I would wait till 20nm highend GPUs are out, 2 times more power for the same price.

I'm not gonna get this game until it's complete.
Will get a new Video Card at the same day... :p

I'm hoping the Oculus Rift comes out around the same time....

OR v1 should be out by the end of this year, SC's initial "release" is to be in the first half of 2015, but it will never be complete.

BTW I don't intend there to be any obligations in joining the GAF org, if you want to join it just to use it as a friends list for contacting other gaffers you could do that, or you could get involved with group actions if you wanted to

No problem! You can always "melt" your purchase and refund the price to apply toward a different ship later if you have second thoughts. I think the avenger looked fine. Stats are so preliminary that it's not worth worrying about too much.

Just make sure you actually bought the "package" that includes the alpha/beta access instead of just the ship. (not sure if that's still possible, but it used to be a mistake the site design allowed)

I just started looking into this game today and it looks awesome. I hate getting hyped about a game that is still so far out. How much longer do you think I would be able to wait on pledging before alpha/beta access is no longer allowed? I have a lot of gaming purchases coming up, but I would like to be in alpha when actual flying is allowed.

There are still 10k alpha slots available, but they might increase them once the end draws near. They have to keep people rolling in all the time to fund further development (although they have too much money anyway already).

And the first alpha module which allows you to fly ships is expected to be released around March/April, but it may be delayed again. Nobody knows for sure, not even the devs.

Dat The Next Great Starship promo. I'm really curious to see what the production values of this thing are going to be. I don't doubt the 200+ participating teams will come up with awesome designs, I just hope the production is decent as well.

The RSI Livestreams are always shonky as hell, but their actual produced videos are usually really slick, so I think it should be just fine.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Made a gif of my (and the panel's) favourite:

Can't watch the video yet as I'm at work but whoa that gif is awesome. Did they say how many if any of these guns will actually be used in the game? Will it be that only the winner will get their gun in with their ship?

They didn't talk much about the structure on the panel itself, but from what I gathered the gun competition is distinct from the ship competition.

E.g. the gun competition is going on right now and the winner (and only the winner) will get their gun in the game.

At the same time, people are gonna be working on ships (which will take a MUCH longer time to design, obviously), and the ship competition (whose winner will get their ship in the game) will happen at a later point in time.

Think of this as the "warmup" competition, so people can present something and we are entertained.

That's what I gathered at least, take it with a grain of salt.

first 3 episodes will be narrowing down from 24 candidates to 16 candidates (8 shown per round, 2 or 3 eliminated), and then the narrowing down continues from there. They've pre-eliminated a lot, from about 200 applications to the 24 "finalists"

Hey GAF, are we only allowed to join one Org? Cause I wanted to apply for the GAF org but it says I'm already in another org??

Thanks!

For now: yes. They'll expand it to multiple orgs as the system gets more fleshed out.

That gun gif is incredible. Will give the full vid a watch tomorrow. Wingman's Hangar while I'm having breakfast, then The Next Great Starship at lunch!

TNGS is a great idea, and I am excited to see what ships they end up making. A couple of the guns were great.

However it was laughably bad at times, the moment when they played dramatic music as the judges "dramatically" txted had me in stitches. I wish they figured out they shouldn't try and copy that that Project Runway TV show. I am sure that woman is really good at her job, but she has always come across really awkward on camera. Why they don’t have Roberts present these things is beyond me. Also you should have gotten though all the guns in one episode.

Any news on when the ETA is for the next Module (Dog Fighting)?

Also, any sense in upgrading my hangar? There are a few new ships that I want to purchase, but wondering if it will be easier/cheaper to do this once the game launches. Im getting giddy though...hehe.
