Accepted two friend invites yesterday. Let's set up a time for 5 of us to be on so we can start a fleet? We're never going to get 5 if we just hope that 5 of us just happen to be on at the same time.

I could show up to make a fleet, but I can't provide any money to make it and I'll probably never be around much to do anything in a group.

But if you need more people to make one, count me in.

The Defiant retrofit at the vice admiral level allows the ability for not only the elusive cloaking device, but the quad cannon ability... the cannons we have in the game are dual, and true you can stack them if you had like 4 tactical slots, but even on rapid fire, doesn't compare to quad cannons on rapid :)

I can be on any time today to help with fleet creation. I don't think I've gotten any friend requests yet, I should be Alix@The_Technomancer

I just hit level 10...and man, I really don't know what ship to pick. I've been looking at the selection screen for 25 minutes now.

I'm Tactical, so I guess I'll just stick with an Escort. Maybe I'll start a new character to help feed my ship fetish later.

I played this back in the open beta. Think I'll pop in and see how it has changed.

Seems like a small client still, which is nice.

So, just got my promotion to lt-commander!

Now, I need a bit of help to pick a new ship. It seems that the escort class are more oriented towards combat? With cruisers being a middle ground between pure assault vessels and science ship?

So, if I want to have a better ship for space combat, I should pick an escort class?

General rule of thumb, Escorts if you value firepower over scientific abilities and ship hull endurance

Cruiser is a huge ship, middle ground, lots of power and crew

Scientific if you love the little tricks that help in scanning, detecting cloaks, jamming, ejecting warp plasma, weird stuff like that, providing aid to other players like extending shields, healing people, good protection

Basically but it really depends on your playstyle. Escorts are the hardest ships to fly properly because they sacrifice survivability for full frontal firepower in the form of dual (heavy) cannons which have a narrow 90 degree firing arc. (You can use dual beam banks as well which have a more forgiving arc but do less damage.) So if you like making multiple strafing runs at a target go with an escort. Whereas cruisers are tough but turn very slowly and are best for broadsides with multiple beam arrays which will do considerable damage as well. It's a question of burst versus sustained damage really.

I think I'm remaking again.

Science is kinda too hard for me, you have to use tons of skills, it's like a caster class.

I'm just going to go for Engineer with Cruiser beam arrays so I don't have to worry about aiming cannons, and can tank.

I'll make my new character with the same name as my old one.

So do you have to pay to change your ugly ass uniform? I hate looking at my character. He may as well look good if I have to stare at the back of his head on those booooring ground missions.

some uniforms are free or cost energy credits. Others are microtransactions.

I have TOS uniforms unlocked for buying the deluxe edition.

There goes the reason to own the lifetime contract... I did not play it much anyways

Life time subs get perks like 400 cryptic points per month that accumulates, and can be spend on microtransactions. They also get more inventory to hoard stuff.

You should be able to change it reasonably for < 1000 credits. There's a reasonable selection of default uniforms and a lot of ones you can buy as microtransactions, but you can get very creative if you mess around with the color options.

I'm only level 12, lieutenant commander. :p I should be much higher the amount I have played, but I'm just having fun exploring and what not. Is the crystalline entity a raid boss? I dare not talk to that.

Two things:

1. When you equip armor and kits, they show on your character by default. You can disable showing them by going into your equip screen and right-clicking to disable.

2. To change your uniform, visit a tailor on a space station. On Earth Space Dock, the tailor is in the Requisition section. Some uniforms come free, some come in packs via cryptic points.

Well bummer. I switched my uniform to the First Contact ones but it still looks off somehow. Oh well! I got a TOS phaser so if anyone makes fun of my clothes I can vaporize them.

I'm surprised I've played as much as I have. Theres not a lot going on in the game. I tried to do a public quest or whatever with the gorn minefield and everybody just sits in one spot, killing the same Gorn over and over and over without rescuing any of the miner freighters. So annoying!

It seems once you hit Lt Cmdr the game sloooooooows down. Or maybe I'm just doing the wrong missions. I just now figured out how to do Duty officer missions. What do these diplomatic points I accrue ultimately get me?

Transwarp would be nice. Flying across 3 sectors is good for biobreaks but I'd learn to deal if I have faster travel!

There is quantum slipstream, which has a limited run of 30 secs, and a Borg subtranswarp drive (which is unlimited use) that make the big map travelling much much easier but I think all of them are only for admiral levels.

I'm only level 12, lieutenant commander. :p I should be much higher the amount I have played, but I'm just having fun exploring and what not. Is the crystalline entity a raid boss? I dare not talk to that.

The Crystalline Entity is the ultimate enemy (yet its loot is not that great for the effort) that requires a LOT of PATIENCE, teamwork, and coordination, seriously. Don't try it unless you wanna get blisters from pressing a button too much.

Being the captain of a ship, what your class dictates the special abilities you will pass onto the ship
Your bridge crew offer a couple of abilities but the main thing like either weapons systems, or science systems or engineering mainly draw from you.

Kinda sorta in love with this game right now. Fighting on foot seems pretty standard, but the space combat is pretty well done from what i've seen so far. Currently strolling around the sol system as Abraxas, who is possibly shorter than the shortest man kneeling down.

How is your contribution to a Fleet Action determined? If it's only by damage, won't that leave out all the supporting players?

How does the skill tree work?

It looks like you need to spend 33,000 skill points in Tier 1 skills to access Tier 2 skills? Do any skills have specific prerequisites, or can you only get the last skill in a branch without any of the skills to the left of it?

edit*

Seems like once you spend 33,000 points in any Tier 1 skills, you can start spending points in ANY Tier 2 skills

Apparently if you Team with someone higher than your level, the enemies are scaled for the higher level player.

I'm playing with a level 40 when I'm level 4 and enemies 1-shot me

Having just started playing the game a few days ago I have to say the game didn't do much to guide you through all aspects of the game. i just now started with my duty officer missions! I still have no idea what I need dilithium for. I also learned that if I discard an item from my inventory I get energy credits which are good for...?

Did I just skip a ton of instruction?

Zzoram

Member
Energy Credits can be used to buy some items, gear, and some cosmetic stuff.

Dilithium is used to buy gear, ships, and can be traded for Cryptic Points on the Exchange.

Save all your Dilithium after you refine your ore. Ships you don't need to buy typically because you get a free ship token at each promotion.

You can press a button next to the team leaders icon to match level. You don't quite get to the same effectiveness, but you won't be one shorted.

Guys! GUISE! Try out the user created stuff, especially "first cause, then effect". So awesome, this might actually sell me on the game.

Just hit level 10, got my new ship! The USS Malaya I think it is...might have to rename that!

I think I'm starting to get a grip with the systems. I'm glad Zzoram just said that about skills, I was wondering how to actually get tier 2 ones once I hit LC! Pretty even spread though, so might take a while to get to tier 2 anyway :\ Got a reasonable handle on the combat without being really tested. Done mostly the episode missions with a fair few side ones. Really keen to dig in to the user stuff as well.

Would love to play with you guys some time, any news on the fleet front?

In short, I am liking it a lot! Possibly also because it seems you can solo it really easy, I haven't been social at all but am loving cruising about the galaxy and taking on baddies.

So I played this when it came out. Had a life time sub and all, but never played over level 10. Should I just start over, seeing how much has been added/modified?

Hit 10, too, and got me a nice science vessel. Still rolling with my starter skills, i guess, plus the one from my officers. Absolutely no idea how the skill system works in any shape or form, so if anyone could summarize a short description on how to gain new active skills, how to use them and how to freaking rezize the skill bar, I'd be very happy :)

That said, although I'm currently solo'ing a lot, I have way more fun with it than shortly after release. So gonna play the hell out of the user missions later today :)

Now, maintainance.

i liked this game....
(playing it since it went ftp, didn't play it before.)
if you like space games/mmos its good idea to try it cause im not a startrek fanatic,i just like the space theme for games...
even the ground combat its ok,playing all those 3rdperson shooters on console, has a nice change just clicking enemies and abilities.....

-it would be nice when you are on your ship bridge, when you look outside the windows to see in realtime the spaceships etc outside not some generic view....
especially in crowded areas it would be pretty cool.........

Yeah I'm not sure either lol but I ended up spending uhh, 32k anyway in various skills.
