How's that GAFleet coming up? My main feds are in a fleet, but I got a pile of unfleeted Klingons...

Plus if people need help in missions or just with the game in general etc I'm up for it (Eurozone time), been playing on/off since launch. The game managed to grab me back from SWTOR now too.

I think everyone in GAFleet is currently Federation since they're mostly new F2P or people who came back and made a new character to learn all the new systems.

Probably yeah. At least it's easy to start a klingon now when you get enough level, since they pumped to level 21 on the go. I'm thinking I'm leveling a gorn just on pvp and DOFFs to see how that works out.

Once we have enough subbers/people with Cryptic Points on their accounts who also have Klingon characters, we can try form the "House of Gaf" Fleet?
I've got a lvl 50 Klingon doing PvP at the moment.

Items really need better descriptions. How the hell am I supposed to know what stuff like increased flow capacitance does?

Definitely. I have couple max level klingons that I leveled practically solo outside fleets, mainly doing pvp and kerrat with them now.

Really enjoying the game! I'm playing it like a single player RPG, going through the episode storylines and having a lot of fun doing so. Other players basically serve the purpose of populating the universe (and the occasional war zone/fleet action/whatever the group things are), but I'm totally fine with that, and glad I don't have to fight for quest things like in other MMOs. It's been a great experience and it captures the feel of Star Trek so well.

Anyway, just hit 20, happy with my new ship =D (also love how you can customize different parts of your ship from various designs within the class)

Really want to play, but still can't the launcher to even start. Just says "Trying to update the launcher. Please be patient."

It's been a month now and all I'm getting from Cryptic support is canned non-specific answers every 3 days or so.

It worked fine at launch, but for whatever reason no longer. Infurtiating. Anyone else have this issue? How did you fix it?

Ya this game really poorly explains a lot of the complexity but it's so fun once you accidentally figure stuff out or get someone on a forum to explain it to you. Feel free to ask anything in this thread, someone will probably know the answer.

..oorrrr just spam the fleet chat, like I did :D

but yes, all the little things are really way more complex and intriguing than it shows at the start. Not sure if this makes up for the bigger things wrong with this game, but since f2p I learned to like the whole package a lot more than I used to in Beta.

I'd say, even if it's not actually a 'real' MMO that might keep you interested and addicted for years, if nothing else, this might be a great MMO to play once every now and then in small doses. I'll see :)

I had this issue launching from Steam so I went directly to the directory for the exe and launched from there, fixed it. Then I got it again randomly, and the only fix I could find was to restart and restart the launcher again and again. It seems it's a random thing with cryptics launchers, as I had it for a short time in Champions too. If it never launches, it sounds like a firewall/routing issue maybe.

See, this is why GAF is awesome. I've been trying to get this damn thing fixed for A MONTH using Cryptic support, and supplied them with TONS more info, and you solve it in one post.

You sir, are a gentleman and a squire. Thank you.

Great looking ship. Do we have any info on what class it is? Cruiser or carrier?

Anybody else game with an nvidia card?

Does anybody else have annoying flickering of some graphics?
GTS 450 here. I've recently had some weird flickering for backgrounds in space. I never had this trouble many months ago when I last put in much time, so something seems to have changed.

Once when it was doing this a few days back I grabbed some shots; here's what it was alternating between.

. . . wat
YOU MEAN I DON'T HAVE TO CARRY THOSE AROUND? CRYPTIC Y U NO TELL ME?

Oh wow. It's like a free inventory upgrade. Right now the bottom-left of my inventory is stuffed with those commodities and the bottom-right taken up by things gathered from anomalies.

Just hit 20, woo hoo! Got my new Cruiser. Took it out for a spin with the last of the Klingon missions. Definitely a bit tougher (although some of those D7 Battleships are a bit testy), and I love having 6 weapon bays. Currently rocking 2 phaser beams, an aft phaser array thing, a plasma beam, a Hegm'something Klingon torpedo and a 360 phaser turret. Works pretty well so I can pump 5 weapons at once while port or starboard side, then try and swing around for the torpedo hit.

Klingon missions ranged from being boring to pretty cool. The Devidian stuff was actually more interesting I thought. Still, liked the little nods to the show throughout.

Have this problem too, and I'm on Radeon, so it's probably not a driver problem.

Not sure yet, but probably fits into the Klingon "Battlecruiser" paradigm.

The Enterprise F is looking pretty interesting I have to say. It has Saucer Separation *and* an Auxiliary Craft 3/4 the size of a Defiant. I'll find a picture when I'm not at work.

Anyone know why GameClient (I think) doesn't close when I turn off the game? It takes up 600MB of ram and is annoying if I forget to close it with task manager

Do ships remain effective after you are able to get the next tier? Say like a Defiant Class ship would that still be good enough to use say at a high level? I am asking because I really like the look of the Defiant and was just wondering if it would still be effective enough to use it as my escort ship or if once you hit a high enough level keeping it becomes too much of a liability?

Trying to figure out my ship upgrade path pretty much and what ships to keep and what ships to toss. Mostly talking about PVE no real plans to do much PVP.

To an extent, but you are generally making it harder on yourself if you don't upgrade to the next tier of ship

Radeon HD 5700 series here. I have the same 'space flicker'. Drivers are up to date, been happening for awhile now. Not every system seems to do this, only 1 in 4 places I warp into will have this problem.

Thanks. That's what I figured. Just thought I would double check.

once you get to the level cap you can purchase a Defiant Retrofit, which is basically the defiant but better. I think they did that with all the ships from the next-gen era TV shows, since people want to fly those ships.

Logged into the game to check it out today, still have a character from launch that I didn't level up very far. The opening of the game was really daunting, with about 8 million text pop ups and dialog boxes. Once I got through all of that though, I started having a good time. The shooter controls are pretty cool.

I love how much Trekkie fanservice the writers manage to get in the game. I was just doing the first mission that
Section 31
gives you. They bring back the Devidians from Time's Arrow. At one point you're choosing what sort of anomaly to scan for, and one of the wrong choices is Omega Particles. After determining that there are none present, your away team member then asks, "Captain, what are Omega Particles?"

I promoted my bridge officers but I can't use their Lieutenant skills........do I need extra console slots or something?

Oh, I need to get higher ranked consoles

Ya different ships allow different BOFF ranks.

For example, starter ships allow 1 of each BOFF, and only their Ensign skills. Tier 2 ships allow 1 BOFF to use Ensign and LT skills (depends on which class of ship) and the other 2 BOFFs only Ensign skills.

Cruisers tend to allow higher Engineer BOFF skills, Science Vessels allow higher Science BOFF skills, Escourts allow higher Tactical BOFF skills.

Oh ho ho, I just finished that quest line. You are going to love the next four or so missions.

Choose carefully, you only get 1 free ship for each promotion (lvl 10, 20, 30, 40, 50).

Buying another one afterwards costs a ton of dilithium.

It's one of my favorite things about this game. It's like they went "WHATEVER IMMA GEEK OUT I DON'T GIVE A FUCK" and then went crazy.

Was so close to buying TOR today but resisted...

Anyways, I wanted to post a clip showing people the flickering I was referring to in my gameplay

It can happen either on ground or in space, but the flickering happens mainly on the ground at space stations like Earth Spacedock or DS9, in this video, for some reason the flickering is less frequent during my FRAPS recording, but flickers 3x as much when recording is off

Look at the chair and the rack, they flicker occasionally

The rest of the video is just me flying my ship to and around the Wormhole at DS9 lol, no real flickering there

Everyone is going to be able to get a free Odyssey Class (Ent-F) cruiser for the Feds or one of the new Klingon Flagships for those in the Empire. February.

Ohhhh nice, Enterprise successor but it's still not yet canon :D
