It seems to take ages to kill random ships in this.

I mean I'm only level 8 with two phaser banks and a torpedo bay but it takes so long to drain an enemies shields and then move my ship into a position I can fire death sticks at them

Does it get better

I know I get another ship in two levels time, should I push through the frustration?

Depends what ship type you pick. My Akira could rip through frigates/escorts in a single pass but shields would get shot to shit by any torp volleys. Now I'm on a Galaxy class and I've got to get used to the opposite.

Science ships are always painted as niche healers and all status effects but their HP and maneuvrability is a nice balance between the Cruisers and Escorts. My Nova class kicked the Sabre and Connie's asses.

Use bridge officer abilities, they can speed things up.

More pics you say? Well here's some of my shiny new Galor!

Be sure to redistribute your energy levels so your weapon power is maxed, that's a pretty significant damage boost.

Two ways.

1. Earn dilithium in-game, trade for cryptic points on the dilitihium exchange, use those points to buy keys.
2. Buy keys on the exchange for energy credits. Bought one last night for about 1.3 million energy credits.

I think the bigger news here is a person can apparently convert a real-world buck into a million credits.

Also are Cardassian ships new?

Because the game keeps telling me that stranger in the game has got one

and I really don't care

So I've been running Infected Elite...

46 Cardassian Lock Boxes. None opened. I have two keys (bought with credits), but I'm saving them for any Gold Lock Boxes (of which I've seen one, and it was a random drop I lost the roll on qq)

Boxes stop dropping March 19th, but the keys will stick around in the store since they plan to use them for future loot boxes, so I figure I have all the time in the world to get C Points through dilithium and get them open (after I get my MVAE -_-)

It would be a problem if it weren't amazingly easy to make millions by running Tour the Galaxy every day. If anything, Cryptic needs to get a handle on inflation. Energy credits are basically ludicrously undervalued. There are things they could do about it, but they're too focused on the next episodes at the moment.

What level do you have to be to do these? Also is our GAFleet running these? I'm assuming these aren't soloable.

I would love to get some lock boxes to try to open before March 19th, but I'm only LT CMDR (14). I'm jealous of all the people unlocking that Cardassian ship now that Cryptic added in the global messages.

I wasn't aware u needed to be a certain level to unlock cardassian lockboxes...just use enough cryptic points or ecs to get the keys...if by some chance u find the cardassian galor ship, u need to be a rear admiral lower half at least to pilot it though

Yeah you can unlock boxes at any level (or maybe 5+? it's low though, and not cap), they can drop anywhere except Foundry missions I think, and you can also buy them from the dilithium store and the STF store for 5 EDC or 1 of any kind of salvage or tech (STF tokens/drops).

STFs are 5 man content, and for normals you have to be 45, 50 for elites. I wouldn't suggest jumping into elites as a fresh 50 unless you've geared up though.

Ah so STFs are out of the question for me then. I don't see myself reaching level 45-50 before this event ends.

Can the boxes that just drop elsewhere be those "Gold" ones or can you only get "Gold" ones from the STF store?

It's basically gold selling, something that exists for every MMO.
Yeah, but without even having to go to janky websites and violate any terms of service. Are there any other C-store ways of making a lot of money like this? I have no idea if the key way is the most efficient, but since I recently blew all my cash on some upgrades and tribble food I went ahead and padded myself with a few easy millions while demand is still high.
Htown said:

I hadn't messed with that yet, but looking at the details now, yeah. I never put a big focus on acquiring money--a couple full runs of that and you'd end up with a higher total than I ever had before today.

STFs are the only source for gold lock boxes as far as I know.

I kinda reckoned there were clues in these Lockboxes to give you an idea if it would yield a truly rare prize or just a common item

Hmm, I haven't had any Borg tech drop in a while =/

I'm almost at a full mark XI weapons set on my Odyssey.......not looking forward to trying to get mark xii =/

I'm just a Lt. Commander but my ship can solo a Borg sphere in two passes. It definitely gets better.

Wow, since taking points out of the threat generating skill I'm hardly getting ganged up on in STFs and able to transfer power to weapons and completely fuck shit up, while still able to rotate hull and shield repair abilities when needed :)

Borg fear my quantums and polarons

So other than STFs and dailies for dilithium, what is there really to do end game?

I finally made it to Brigadier General at level 41 on the Klingon side, got another new decked Klingon Raptor equipped with all disruptor dual beams and a Reman shield, very nice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q38MFNs_v7I Quick footage of me taking the ship vs a Hirogen ship

I am a tad concerned about not being able to progress to the next set of chapters, namely the Breen, they say I gotta be at least a level 46, and that's a huge wtf to me... what am I gonna do in the meantime to get there? Thankfully that new Dominion chapter is opening up tomorrow, hopefully for some easy XP cash in

Just came back from a Borg encounter in the psi velorum sector, our team fought the dreaded glitch of 2 Borgified V'ger command ships at once, it was impossible to take down cuz they were healing and launching probes and regen probes like crazy and we were all dying...

Yeah it turns out I wasn't really paying attention to everything else

Having a better ship once I got to lt Commander and access to better bridge abilities like ship boarding etc suddenly made my ship much more lethal

Those Galor spam messages finally got to me, I had to have my new ship. I bought 1500 C Points =( for... the MVAE!

Behold, the USS Adonalsium! (super nerdy reference that no one will get =P)

the green "Cardassian Lock Box" is such a common drop. I get at least one every mission

Do you need to get a gold or purple box to get a Galor?

If anyone runs a mission where there are Jem'Hadar ground enemies, they'll drop Ketracel White. Not the unrefined commodity version, but a food version that buffs Jem'Hadar, but debuffs non-Jem'Hadar.

Two things:

1. Are Jem'Hadar about to be playable, or will there be Jem'Hadar bridge officers?

2. Tribbles can eat Ketracel White just like any other ground food. I haven't found any special tribble yet, but that may be because I'm not breeding the right ones.

If anyone runs some Jem'hadar missions, like the JH alliance missions in the community stuff, would you mind experimenting with the Ketracel a bit, so we can find out what the Ketracel White actually does, or if there are special Dominion tribbles we can breed?

Yer asking questions I wondered myself. Especially the first question... my character IS a Jem'Hadar pretty much but I had to mold him to look like one, would be nice to have the real thing though.

Almost certainly you'll see a Jem'Hadar BOFF available as the special reward for completing the Dominion series *within* its first run.

We got a Breen BOFF when the Breen series was run, and a Reman BOFF with the Reman series...

So what did everyone else think of the new mission?

I love any opportunity to expand on DS9 stuff, epic battle, I even did the mini-optional missions inside the station
I can't wait for the next chapter in the series

Played it twice, once on Fed, once on Klingon

So what did everyone else think of the new mission?

Good stuff. I loved the optional objectives, and generally any chance to run around and do dialog stuff instead of just killing things is great. The space stuff was a good chance to try out my new ship :>

When everyone was in the conference room, I didn't get Starfleet on board since I took the "call his bluff" option, cause damnit I want to be a tough guy sometimes =P Does this actually affect anything? Future missions? The rest of the episode seemed to proceed normally all the way through.

Edit: They need to either not do VA, or get better VA, though. Best thing I can say about it is that at least it was better than the VA in earlier episodes.

Nice. I realized today I have two of the "same" unique item. Some of the mission reward items that now give you an item that matches your level used to give you the equivalent item that would auto-scale with your level. One of these was the Retrofit Forward Phaser Bank. I got the TOS Constitution a few months back (it was given free to all who wanted it shortly before the game went F2P), and it includes an item with the same name and effects--I forget the tiny difference in the description.

Q: How is a “Cardassian Lock Box – Gold” different from a normal Cardassian Lock Box?
A: The Gold boxes are special in two ways. First, they have a substantially better chance of awarding the more desirable items. Second, they have a slightly different list of rewards.

It seems like winning a Galor class ship is easy as pie given how many notices about people winning em, but think of the number of actual subscribers to the actual winners, percentage is still pretty low

lol I got no one on board =/ After the first 2 fails I assumed it was a designed to fail mission =/

Offputting thing about the featured episode: generators not allowed? As an engineer, setting up turret and health generators is kind of my thing. Force Field Dome still worked, though.

I'm going to guess there'd be an "Awesome Diplomat" accolade or something. I probably could've got all of them, but I specifically chose not to use the [Diplomat] option I had for the Klingons because paradoxically, trying to be diplomatic with the Klingons seems like it would be a bad diplomatic move. Playing with my newer KDF character I didn't have those options, so I guess Diplomatic rank mattered.
EDIT: Checking STOWiki, this is probably it: "Smooth Talker: Successfully participate in the Borg Conference during the weekly episode Second Wave"

I feel like the system messages have backfired--I see them being opened up so much, it doesn't feel like a rare status symbol.

Is anyone having trouble connecting? I was just flying along and got disconnected, and have not been able to connect to the login server since. Worst part is that it's a KDF Mirror Event hour, and I was getting insane exp from it. I had actually just reached Brigadier General a minute prior due to duty assignments, and ended up flying into it with my Captain ship before even looking at a new one.

Ya, even at 0.5% gift rate, that's 1 in 200 lock boxes giving out a Galor, and with tens of thousands of players on at any given moment, it's not unusual for 200+ lock boxes to be opened an hour.

The Jem'Hadar attack ship lock box gift rate during Christmas was 0.5%.

Yeah, I can't connect right now either. Just leaves me at 'Connecting to log in server', before booting me after some time.

I was up all late last night getting my Klingon character to level 44, I now can participate in STF's although just normal ones for now... I was being stupid how to get from Qo'Nos to DS9, but I finally figured out a path that gets me there without going through the Sirius Sector block which I do not have access to yet (not a Marauder, but working on the Diplomacy XP). I finally participated in enough STF's to get the Borg Subtranswarp engines... oh god, finally. 6 more levels till I claim my Bortas ship, but things are progressing so slowly cuz of this huge gap of XP I went from doing the Romulan storyline to the Breen is kinda pissing me off.

Always up for something new to try, so no idea how to find anyone else ingame (Or do anything else yet for that matter).

So do GAF Fleeters get together to run elites? I'm afraid to run elites with randoms, I tried one and it went so so so bad =/

I haven't, yet. Usually there aren't really that many people on at once, heh.

Just run elite Infected. It's mostly easy and also mostly impossible to fail (not counting the optional =P). Plus, Infected is where you get the XII shield token from, and that's all you really need. Use the EDC Borg gear (and console) in the other slots for the awesome Borg set bonuses imo. Cure and Khitomer have been mostly full of amazing levels of pain the times I've tried them in random elites.

Ok so it's not quiet as confusing as I first thought, just finished the SS Azura mission after the tutorial though and got a "Duderon Particle Trace" (Rare).

What is it and what do I do with it?

Is there a wowhead style site with info on loot/items in STO where I can get an idea of what stuff is worth keeping / selling or trashing?

Heh, I haven't had a tech token drop since my first few STFs =/

So that borg stuff is worth it? I have enough EDC to get it all right away

@Osiris You collect those items to make things with at Memory Alpha or use in missions
