Do you guys think its dumb to shell out 25 bucks for a new ship =/

I have no regrets and am quite satisfied with my purchase. MVAE for life! To be fair, though, I only paid 18.75 because I had ~600 points accumulated from dilithium refining. Still, I gave in way early, I had originally hoped to hold out until I only needed 500 more :lol :lol

Are you guys actually buying those keys? Is there some other way to get them? Very spendy.

~3 days of refining dilithium for a key. Though I think now I'm going to be saving for that really funky looking Klingon carrier. Adamantly not paying for that one! Plus it should go faster if I can refine 16k per day now, with my Klingon helping out. Anyway, buying keys off the exchange is the way to go. Like Htown said, they're in the 900k-1000k range now, but dropping. Easy way to make credits is by doing that Tour the Universe event whenever it's up. 350k for going through all the sectors, and if you have the Borg engine you can make three times in the hour. Watch something/browse GAF on your other monitor (who doesn't have two monitors come on!) and the time flies =P

Earn most of the pts yerself, then spend less on the Cryptic points later

Today is STF Infected Bonus, extra loot droppage, get it while ya can, check the calender for time

And yay, I finally completed the Borg set for my Bortas ship

I'm too low level to rack up that kind of cash. I just hit Commander. Do the lock boxes expire? If not, I'll just store them in the bank until I can get some keys.

Duty officers make leveling too easy. It's not uncommon to log on after a day and gain half a level's worth of skill points. Once I got about 9/10 of a level when a big one had critical success.

w00t, been having a good run at Infected Elite with the optional

Cure elite is still a pain in the ass, too many people go to the Kang and still get pwned, and soloing the probes isn't really possible when the cube can two shot you

You can hit the probes without being in range of the cube if you come in from the bottom. That said, I tried Cure a few times on elite and decided it's not worth the effort, happy with my Borg engines anyway =P Infected is pretty idiot proof, and completable even if you have a group full of terribles, so I just do that one.

KA seems doable but damn it can take so fucking long

This is Strofob. Following his harrowing experience against the Borg on the Khitomer, he got an extreme case of astrophobia. As soon as Admiral Quinn would let him go, he went down to Starfleet Academy and intends to stay there. For now this means he'll just be gaining experience by answering lore questions, though at level 7 he can start recruiting duty officers and delegating tasks to them.

Just found out that buying a C-Store ship unlocks it for all applicable characters on an account. That definitely makes me want to buy the real Defiant sooner or later.

While I was playing yesterday, I randomly clicked some players to see their portraits and saw a rather impressive rendition of a Na'vi. I actually did a double take at first, then read the biography to confirm that it was intentional. I'll have to play around with creating random aliens to see what I can emulate from other series someday.

This makes sense, given the fact that I can make multiple characters and each Dilithium I convert to Cryptic Points all pool to one, which is great.

so... Bird of Prey or Raptor?

Discuss

Raptor, it's the bigger badder fighter of the two, but BoP is more ironic but they are just so wussy you can shoot em down too easily.

Meh, with the short life that BoP has, when they uncloak they are made short work of, or if you have a science ship you can detect cloaked vessels within a certain range, and if you fire on em while cloaked, no shields

Now... if we could pilot a Reman Scimitar, that'd be a different story

Whoa, someone had some hull repair drones out on infected elite, it made the whole thing a joke, kept getting repaired as I was nuking shit

Yay teamwork

Hull repair drones, I gotta get those on the Klingon side, very handy indeed.

Oh hey new C-store bundle, DS9 themed, to make your defiant retrofit even more authentic
http://startrekonline.com/node/2879

I just got a new shield from the Klingon side for Honor Guard, it packs way more shieldiness HP's than the Reman one, I am so happeh

Oh and we have a Defera Invasion Zone scheduled for tonight from 7-9pm, was hoping to form a team of at least 3 to do a hard ground mission to win hopefully a very rare Borg ground item

At first I thought the officers included in the DS9 bundle were a huge deal. Romulan and Cardassian? Then I realized they were duty officers, so the only thing making them those species was a tiny picture.

I have a question: is it better to have cannon scatter volley III or attack patten omega III, when I already have attack pattern alpha III and beta II?

Scatter/Rapid Fire is probably going to produce more DPS than adding Omega III to your list I believe. Omega III only adds damage to your exist shots and it's not all that much but Scatter/Rapid actually increase the number of shots you take overall. What I usually do is have 3 Tactical officers, one with Spread/Scatter Volley I and III and the other with whatever offensive buffs I can get. The 3rd will have High Yield/Rapid Fire I/III and is swapped with the main guy depending on what I need to do, assuming you're talking about using the Fleet or Advanced Escorts.

Alternatively, High Yield 1/Rapid Fire 1/Spread III/Scatter Volley III on one and reverse it on the other tact officer. Swap them depending on when you need more AOE or Single target.

Picked up 3 prototype salvages in one elite infected

Now rocking 3 mark 12 disrupter dual heavies, 1 mark 12 quantum torpedo, 2 mark 12 disrupter turrets, 1 mark 11 disrupter turret

So much DPS

For Tactical Escorts, can I just pick dual plasma cannon and be good?

I have no idea how to outfit it.

You can use any weapons you want, or you can specialize in one... if you do, make sure you get some consoles that improve the firepower of that specific energy type

I finally started doing STFs yesterday, but it's kind of annoying how you have to wait an hour to do the same mission again. I've only done normal Khitomer Accords so far, and that didn't seem so bad, apart from teammates seemingly ignoring the probes heading for the vortex from the other side and my having to fly around to take care of them before too many got through. All I've gotten from three rounds so far is four EDCs and two rare Borg salvage. I used the two RBS to pick up a nice Mk XI phaser beam array.

Are the "Assimilated" pieces of gear in the retro section the ones I need to modify my ship's appearance? It seems like it would take quite a long time to actually farm the stuff for those. I'm not sure if I'm really up for the Elite STFs yet, as I still get destroyed from time to time in normal.

STO forums have strats for STFs, on normal mode, infected and cure optional objectives are usually doable and you'll gear up in no time

The Assimilated ones in the Retro Section will make your ship look like a Borg one. Only 15 EDCs to get them which isn't too bad. that set will hold you until you get some pieces of MACO or Omega gear.

Yes, the retro Borg stuff is what alters your ship's abilities and appearances, those are a must for anybody I figure... and are very easy to get. They require 5 EDC's per piece in the 3 piece set, so 15, it's not that hard compared to the other gear you have to get shit for... unless you are lucky to always get rare and prototype borg salvage, that's a diff story.

On another note

I got back from completing the 2nd chapter in the 2800 series, "Of Bajor".

Basically I spent the first 10 mins running around exploring Bajor, which is a very nice city, lots of people, lots of people to talk to and very atmospheric to how DS9 designed them to be. It even has a Day and Night cycle! The missions were a group of mini-missions that led you to run around the city to explore it, and unravel the mystery of the 2800 and contacting them on DS9. There comes a part where you have to convince the Dominion on the station the war is over, but no choice is ever fully correct, but it's cool to watch them explain the events of DS9's arc with the system's engine. This is a huge DS9 fanservice and I love them for it. I even got to talk to the Prophets again! I did this mission twice on the Fed side to get different gear, I got the armor which I am dissapointed in its appearance, it is a simple Polyalloy armor that looks no different than any other Polyalloy armor we can get ourselves. Hopefully they fix this. Otherwise excellent work!

Does it work out okay when playing solo? I'm basically processing everything through my 200 hrs experience with Champions Online. That game was 100x better with other players, but obviously there isn't always someone on when you want to play. I had an ice character that was basically indestructible and okay at crowd control, but then I was astonished at how quickly I could kill things with a blade character.

This game is soloable, but you do have AWAY team members to help you, but space is pretty easy.

You can ask around even with other strangers to form team if you wish to team up, or if GAFleet is on some might help out too

I'm downloading this.

Could someone explain the difference between a tactical guy and and engineering guy? I understand the conceptual differentiation but I'd want practical/gameplay examples, like:

Q: How would you approach a same given situation with an engineer and with a tactician?
A1: With my engineer I'd deploy this and activate that and...;
A2: With my tactician I'd use this ability and use that approach so....

Sorry for the demanding request but the last MMOThing I played was Ultima Online, 10 years (or more) ago.

I tried doing one of the hard defari borg missions with a group today but ran out of time. I don't know if there was a glitch, because no one could figure out how to complete any of the objectives.

I changed ships since yesterday, so I now have two tactical officer stations instead of one. One of my officers has cannon rapid fire II and cannon scatter volley III, provided that I put him in the tactical commander station (which means giving up on using attack pattern omega III). However, I can also replace cannon rapid fire II with torpedo high yield III. This option is more appealing to me, since I only have one cannon but two torpedoes equipped.

Most of the differences only become evident during combat. From time to time there are story-related objectives that can only be done by specific officers, but they don't affect the game much, nor the outcome of the mission (for example, tactical/engineering/science officers are given slightly different objectives to advance past a certain point, but the mission resumes normally from there). I've never been an engineer, but you would have access to more technical skills like shield generators and weapon malfunctions. Tactical is generally more combat orientated, with things like grenades and temporary stat improvements.

lol I'm an idiot. I set up my character in the wrong resolution so the aspect ratio was off and she is way taller and slimmer than I thought. Oh well.

This can be fixed. The "tailor" doesn't just let you modify clothes, but all the options you had when modifying appearance in the first place. Only species and gender remain fixed. The more changes the more energy credits they'll charge, though. I recently made a "Feral" costume for one of my guys, where his uniform stays the same, but he gets longer hair and beard and starts using the Creature pose.
