lol @ getting REAL loot from "killing" shit in the holodeck

SMH

yeah I thought of this as well... but one could say maybe they planted real loot as a sorta mini-prize for defeating the simulations, meh, best not to overthink all the plotholes cuz it's a MMO

I did some rethinking about the new ep tonight... while it was certainly enjoyable to me because of being a huge DS9 fan, and this was essentially a way to add more content from that world... the episode in itself was like a padded filler mission... it was one long "Welcome to Bajor" and here's some things for you to do in the name of discovering this brand new map of Bajor which shoulda existed a long time ago. The only part that really mattered towards the overall story was near the end when you had to contact the Vorta on the station which I have a hard time believing they couldn't just do like they did last time... why go through so many loopholes to contact a station you were in charge of before. But after the patch this morning, it appears to be rectified.

But I digress, if this opens up more DS9 content and backstory bring it on.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who noticed, but there was in inadvertent spoiler bug when the next chapter was revealed on the same day as "Of Bajor" when the next chapter was unlocked sort of, but you couldn't pull up the map to do the mission, but you could select it ahead of time and hear the details of what you were to do next.

Boosted my Klingon to 40 by sitting in Kerrat all day, and now I'll do the story missions to 50 without worrying about not being level for them, I hope. Doubling my dilithium per day feels good, hooray for C Points. I like the birds of prey, but it doesn't seem like 50 offers much in terms of ship choice for that. The B'Rel retrofit isn't better than the ship you get at 40. I have a Bortas, but I doubt I'll want to play with it much after sticking to the amazingly maneuverable birds of prey. Really looking at that Kar'fi carrier though, since it would be a different style of play, and that's appealing. Plus it looks amazing!

Edit: First thing I'm doing when I hit 45 is running 5 STFs for that Borg engine, sector travel is agonizingly slow without it =(

I knew I was playing for a long time when my son tapped me on the shoulder and said, "you really must like this game". Four hour sessions aren't long right? And a good son would bring snacks!

If you're keen on doing lots of duty assignments, it's worth it to check out the exchange for the 2,000 and 10,000 20% CXP boosts. Sadly, my first gold box for which I spent nearly a million EC to buy a key yielded only a 10k boost, but I'm keeping it after seeing the prices on the exchange. I found that the 2k boosts were going for as low as 25,000 EC, so I snapped a bunch of those up. I do tend to load up as many doable assignments as I can before I go to work and before I go to sleep, so I figure I'll have used them up pretty quickly.

What's really amusing is that in order to get such boosts, one would have had to either spend 100 CP or around a million EC on a key to get it from a lockbox, or traded around 22,000 dilithium (at least three day's refining, or one day between all three free character slots, but still having had to farm the dilithium ore in the first place) to get the CP to buy a key. The 2k boost itself costs 160CP on the C-Store, so 25k EC is an insane bargain. Sadly no 10k boosts were at 125k EC or less, so the 2ks were still a better deal. 25k EC is probably one round of Ker'rat coming in first in points and recycling whatever you get.

Also, I took a gamble and bought up a regular retail copy of the game from Gamestop, despite my failure with the multiple copies of Amazon's CE version. It turns out that I was still able to enter the key for yet another additional 30 days of gold time, as well as the free Constitution class with its level-scaling retro phasers. I've been told in-game that I could possibly also buy the digital deluxe edition from Best Buy, which allegedly came with 400CP of its own, but I think he might have just seen his stipend and thought it came from just activating the key. In any case, the retail version is $8 at Gamestop, which at the very least is $2 less than what 400CP plus a 400CP ship would cost. I'm told that I can also claim my Connie, strip the phasers, then discharge the ship and repeat for free so I can fill a tier 5 cruiser with them.

I think after avoiding turrets for so long, I love em. When you equip them on a ship that can do DHC's, it's almost like having extra firepower for the front as well as behind... so instead of just 4 DHC's firing, a turret or 2 makes a huge difference in the wave of blasts coming an enemy's way and shred their shields to nothing even if they are on the same level as you... ah so good

I've done this on my Bortas ship and now my Fed side Fleet escort ship

The posters on the STO forums pretty much all agree on using 3 DHCs, 1 quantum torpedo and 3 turrets to get maximum DPS

Here is my character:

Only changed the eye color from the face preset because I thought it was pretty good. As for the outfit, went with something retro but more stylized. I wasn't raised on this new leather suit stuff, though I did dress my tactical officer in it. I've always thought Cryptic goes a bit overboard on the tits, but if you try to tune them down they are modeled strangely. Ah well, bigger probably goes better with the retro look anyway.

Not that I've got a problem with the species from Star Trek proper, but I really like the greater flexibility possible with pure alien characters.

I was originally going to go with something more like this that I made just messing around in the creator the other day, but it seems KDF alien characters are forced into dark pants regardless of gender so the whole thing just didn't go.

I've been doing something similar with my KDF character. Works nice for for the big ships, but it's a bit of a pain when something maneuverable enough to get out of the cannons' way is just getting hit by turrets.

EDIT: More weird stuff I found while playing around today. You can still do many emotes while sitting in the captain's chair. Some make sense, like pointing. But uhh, try ones like "sleeping". Or while my person was sitting in the chair and doing jumping jacks I told them to do the d'k tahg emote but they didn't stop the jumping jacks, so they wave this knife through the air.

It won't take long to get to level 50 now!

I did the KDF mirror events when they were available to level up from 40-50 - I will have to check out Kerrat? Haven't seen that one - is that the daily distress call mission?

I am still using my QIN Heavy Raptor at 50 and it works well in the Borg STF's but am considering the Garumba in the C-Store as it has similar specs to my FED Fleet Escort. (Equipped with 3 DHC's and 1 Quantum Torp in front and 3 Turrets in back)

Got an awesome bug on the last Cardassian mission. The nav beacon I need to land on Bajor is inside the planet. No way to finish it so I can go onto the borg missions, ugh.

Kerrat is the War Zone in Eta Eridani where you scan Borg nodes, then kill 4 repair drones. There's a repeatable quest for doing 3 of them that nets you a daily quest's worth of skill points and 1440 dilithium. There's no cooldown on the quest, your side doesn't have to win the war zone, you don't even have to be alive. If you're dead and not respawed it warps you when it resets anyway, and you stay dead. Just turn it in and pick it up again every time 3 of them complete, without ever having to leave. It's like the whole thing was designed with every convenience in mind for afking. Hell, they even increased the logout when afk timer to 60 minutes recently too.

I was looking at the Garumba but I think it'll play too similarly to my MVAE, despite the special weapon it gets, so I'm looking for something that differentiates itself a bit more. Birds of prey have the extra maneuverability and battle cloak going for them, and carriers just seem cool.

Well you can't defeat Red Squad, they're the best of the best

And hooray, I finally got a new piece of MACO equipment, albeit it's just a lowly deflector... that weird pattern that eminates from MACO gear is hypnotic

i really only play this game on the weekends. i'm not even max level yet :p

i just hit captain and got a new ship. i finished the 2800 episodes they gave us so far, and now im onto the romulan stuff.

im at an impasse at what i should do for my bridge officers -- they're all white but they have really good abilities. i have 3 purple candidates, but i dont think their abilities are better, and even if i trained them in all the ones i want, what benefit is there to the purple ones?

i kind of like my roster of existing bridge officers anyway, how they look.

Hah you took my idea

I took one of those Klingon shuttles and wrapped it in Borg technology and the Deflector was so big it encased the whole Shuttle, it was like a flying green claw

Last two infected elites I did failed the optional because one person can't read

But also in both someone wanted to take out the gateway before the 2nd transformer......

Since when did people start doing that?

I've been watching people bitching about the STF elites about people not following rules or knowing what to do differently

There are certain things you don't completely blow up till later or else you unleash a wave of enemies that fuck up your timing and ruin your chances at the optional

Must admit it, i was one of the ignorant ones for a while, but when I figure out how to play it right, others don't and it doesn't matter anymore

The STFs really should offer a thorough explanation before joining. It's far too hard to read the text and fully comprehend what it's saying during the mission (especially given the time limit), so one must learn through experience.

Well, there's also the fact that the normal versions of those STFs don't require the same tactics that are needed to win the Elite versions. You don't have to learn the method so when you do the Elite versions, people complain.

I've only attempted two elite STFs, but I didn't notice any differences in strategy. What kinds of things should I be aware of?

I also have another question: are there specific weapons I should attempt to buy from the Mk XI set? I've already requisitioned the borg quantum torpedoes, and I need to replace my beam weapons soon. I'm currently using disrupter and polaron weapons because of bonuses I receive from tactical equipment. Should I get antiproton weapons instead?

Stick to one type of energy weapon and then stack tactical consoles that boost that energy type :)

And elites require a bit different strategy, maybe not infected, but cure and KA definitely have to be done a certain way or you get overwhelmed

Playing through the Klingon side is so easy since its a lot of repeat missions and I know how to maximize skills this time

Here's the info at STOWiki. In short, bridge officers have certain traits like our player characters do. Some every member of a species will have, others not. Rarer bridge officers will have more of these traits amplified to greater effect.

Yeah, I feel the same way, getting attached to my crew. Unless you're a real number cruncher and know there are certain specific traits you want that extra edge on, it shouldn't make a big difference to the experience.

Same exact thing happened to me, seems like the new Bajor they made is bigger and ate up the nac beacon, lol.

Just skip the mission so you can start the borg questline!

What are you guys talking about? What is the name of this episode you refer to, is this on the Fed side or Klingon side?

It's the last part of Cage of Fire, Approaching Bajor, on the Fed side; it gives you a nav beacon but you can't reach it cause Bajor is on the way. I went to the forums and it seems it was already reported.

I already have polaron and disruptor tactical consoles to improve the power of those respective weapons. I'm mostly wondering if antiproton weapons are the better choice or if it mostly comes down to a subjective decision.

As far as I can see, Antiproton by itself serves no real purpose other than to combat the Borg especially otherwise it's not much better than any other or even less so of an energy type against other non-Borg

I have both Antiproton and Polaron weapons almost maxed out on Fed side
Disruptors nearly maxed out on Klingon side

I was thinking in particular of ways in which to improve my performance in elite STFs against the Borg, which was why I considered whether antiprotons would give me more of an advantage.

The Antiproton weapons you acquire from the Task Force awards is specifically designed to give an edge to fighting Borg as it can apply some sort of radiation burn against them

That's great and all but if you have other weapons where you have higher DPS and other abilities to drain power you can use those too

Shouta

Member
If you get the borg versions of weapons, it doesn't matter what time you get, Antiproton's advantage over the other types is that it gets a bit of crit severity and accuracy over a proc like the others. So if you want to use polaron or disruptor weapons against the borg, get the borg versions and you'll be fine.

Had a bad couple of STF's tonight after having a great one in the beginning.

One of the bad ones involved doing a Ground Cure mission which I had only ever done 1 other time, this time we got farther than before to fight Armek, but it was obvious the team was not all on the ball as I was and we kept retrying over and over, could not take down Armek so I had to bail cuz I couldn't take it anymore.

A 2nd STF was the Cure space... the team was too busy blowing up probes and the cube to worry about the Kang and I kept saying, protect the Kang, but only 1 other ship broke off to help... I had powerful weapons but the ships were coming in from every direction fast. So we lost.

I am starting to become one of those STF elitists and wanted to yell at them but I restrained myself and left without a word.

Tactical console bonuses stack.........I use 3 +disruptor damage consoles for maximum bang

I had no idea that they stacked. And I just discarded a rare polaron phase modulator the other day because I already had one.

If only the PVE queue mentioned that the STO forums have strategies on how to get the optionals done efficiently

I set up an independent tab that only mentions what other players are saying. It's much easier to communicate that way.

Yeah man, you gotta make custom tabs. I learned that in Champions Online.

Equipment levels get a bit goofy once you hit Admiral. Before that, every 10 levels you gain access to 2 new Marks, and could count on those being the best you could do for 10 levels. But once you hit 40 and you start gaining a mark every 5 levels nothing feels very long-term.

I've just been blowing my rare borg salvages on Mk XI anti-Borg phaser beam arrays. I don't know that anti-proton would necessarily be any better, although I don't think I ever notice my phasers actually disabling any enemy subsystems.

I finally got around to buying some phaser tactical consoles off the exchange. I guess they must be in really high demand because they're so much more expensive than everything else I'd bought of the same rank and quality before. I had to settle for some less than highest versions, as the extra 2% damage would have cost at least 5x as much, and I'm hoping I'll eventually just randomly pick one up.
