random giantbomb TNT reminded me this went f2p so I dled it. Played like a few missions after tutorial for Feds.
No clue whats going on. Scared to put skill points in because it doesn't feel like your typical mmo tree. Tactical officer.
I also have no clue if a new loot gear is better than my old one (is there a way to compare stats?), because each item has a lot of numbers :/
Is there any strategy to ground combat? seem to be just blasting through guys with my dudes. It's kinda boring though, never really been a ranged guy in mmos.
It comes off scary at first, but pretty soon you'll be able to get it down easy. Tactical Officers have it easier then anyone else because if all you want to do is say.. get in escort or some sort of high dps focus. You really need so few skills raised compared to everyone else unless you're eyeing some sort Engineering or Science ship that has all these powers you want to click like Gravity Well.
So you picked the best class to ease yourself in. Focus on skills that raise your damage, your shield strength, your tactical skills and you'll be really good. You get a lot of freedom, and once you feel more comfortable you'll notice what you like and end up experimenting / tweaking.
Ground Combat.. yeah.. few people like it. Always been like that since the start. Melee can work if that helps. Usually the trick to getting some sort of enjoyment out of it is to try out all the weapons you can and find one that fits what you enjoy the most. Dual Pistols, Single Phaser, Pulsewaves, etc. I noticed that (for me) once I found something I liked it made the experience better for the most part. Also, I play in both modes. My Science guys I tend to use RPG mode just cause I find it easier to heal people, where if I'm just goofing off, solo, don't need to pay attention I'll be in shooter mode just cause. So both work and there's no wrong way.
