Oh man a Star Trek book club! I'd love to do it... but I'll probably forget after like a week. I'll subscribe and hopefully I remember.

BAH! I have been waiting for these to hit Netflix for months, and after seeing this thread I thought they went up early.

Damn you, Forrester! I was wanting to do a marathon today on my day off. Now I have to wait until Friday.

Yes. I did want to buy the box sets, but they are still expensive. I only like Next Generations and Voyager though.

Can you stream these too?

Wow! Awesome news about the series finally making it on netflix. I have been waiting to begin the series. One question though: how well are these spaced out? I want to watch all the episodes but is it nigh impossible to keep up with the viewing dates if I do so? I am sure I will have 1000 questions for the fans on here…

Following along with the original series probably wont be that big of an issue since there was only three seasons and most of the selection I think are from the first two (not sure though). It wouldnt be until TNG stuff that it might become more spread out since there are more seasons but you should watch at your own pace and not feel forced to keep up.

But otherwise I think it would perfectly fine to ask questions here even if its not with the current episodes of the week. Plenty of enthusiastic Trek fans to answer and many episodes arent listed so there should be plenty of room to bring them up and discuss :)

Aw yeah, just checked, it is streaming too! Right before my bday on Saturday. I know what I'm going to be watching this day! ;D I'll do Voyager first, its the one I don't remember a lot of.

I've never seen an episode of Star Trek so I guess this is my chance to finally get into it. I've been pretty hooked on X-Files, another show I just started watching, so I hope I can really get into this also.

Never got around to Enterprise. Was it really that bad? Even with the great Scott Bakula?! I can't believe it.

No, it's not that bad. The ending kicks you in the balls though

Pretty Big Spoiler, you have been warned:
They kill off one of the main characters for no real good reason in the last episode and the story is told through flashback during the TNG era with it's cast....so the last episode was a TNG episode basically

To be fair, there is a long long stretch of season two that is FUCKING TERRIBLE. I do like seasons 3 and 4 a lot, though.

I'd certainly watch Enterprise over Voyager any day of the week.

I actually liked Voyager...:(, only liked TNG better tbh.

Don't hate me.

Same here. We are rare I guess. I actually loathe Deep Space Nine, but I'm sure many here like that series.

Here's the thing about Enterprise. It starts with that awful intro song. It also has sub-par plots, and kinda horrid acting. However, the themes that they are dealing with, namely what is humanity as they are coming into their own in the galaxy. They explore a lot of really interesting sociological issues in the transition from what we know of society today to what we see in TNG. That kind of exploration is what makes Star Trek great, and I really think they did a fantastic job of it in Enterprise.

Plus Jolene Blalock.

It's okay, Philistine.

Not even that, it wasn't even a NEW TNG episode. It was like deleted scenes from an OLD TNG episode.

Such a bad decision...

I actually liked the theme song...something you can sing to and its catchy. OMG, dont kill me.

I like how it showed the progressive of exploration, including the First Contact rocket. Nice cameo.

Will be following schedule up to TNG were after Ill be marathoning!

Family is a really good TNG sode, important in understanding Picard.

Come on guys, Voyager wasn't that bad.*

The first few seasons made me want to gouge my eyes out. And some of the borg stuff was unrealistic, even for Trek.

Where's the challenge? Season a week or bust!

Now all I need is the time to watch a season a week. Time to cut out all of that time wasted sleeping.

Voyager episodes involving the Kazon were terrible. Every episode went exactly the same, and it dragged on for like two seasons.

oh shit, finally. i guess i know what im watching after 24
I'd like a new Star Trek with Captain Bauer at the Helm please. Would love to see Jack square off with some fools with a bat'leth.

Most interested in seeing DS9, Sisko is the man. TNG is also awesome and I watched a bunch of episodes last year when I had a DVR, now I can finally watch it from start to finish. Never have seen many of the TOS episodes so I will have to catch up there. Voyager is ok and I will watch last. Enterprise simply doesn't exist to me.

DS9 was really great.

There don't appear to be filler episodes, every episode moved forward significant character or character relationship developments, or the main series story arc.

Starfleet Captain Rankings

1. Benjamin Sisko
2. Jean-Luc Picard
3. James Kirk
4. Jonathan Archer
5. Catherine Janeway

Captain you'd want to follow into battle - Benjamin Sisko

Captain you'd want to have a beer with - Jonathan Archer

Captain you'd want to punch in the face Catherine Janeway

This would be the order of my list. For so long my favorite captain was Picard, but I've changed my opinion to Ben Sisko.

any options for non-US gaf? I'm in the UK but don't know if ToS is being shown anywhere. I have deep space nine and enterprise on my DVR (been there about a year!) but no ToS or next generation

Sailor Stevenson
David Ellis told me I should post here as we've been nerding out about ST over IM.

My contribution to the thread is I've heard strong rumors about the TNG-HD remaster coming sometime in the not-too-distant future. Here's hopin.

Kinda stoked to watch DS9 again though, I've seen TOS and TNG many times over, but DS9 I've only watched a couple times, and only in my youth.

I'll always maintain DS9 fans are no different than afternoon soap watchers, that shit is basically catered to the same type of audience.

Keep your Sailor Moon out of our Star Trek thread.

Voyager could have so easily been saved as well-

1-temporal/transdimensional accident or some such bollocks.
2-worf gets transported to the voyager bridge.
3-after less then a day worf murders the bulk of the senior staff for gross incompetence and takes command.
4-rest of the show chronicles worf taking voyager home and spreading klingon wisdom along the way.
5-(optional) worf mounts janeways head on a stick and keeps it in view of the main screen for negotiation purposes.

bingo, show saved.

On a more serious note:

1.) Recast/Rewrite Janeway (but keep the character)
2.) Replace Kes with 7 from the beginning.
3.) No neelix.

CBS has ToS on its site but may not be available there in your country, worth a check though.

There are always a couple of trek channels going on justin.tv, but you have no control over what eps are being shown.

My Star Trek viewing has been so scattered. I've never watched any of the series chronologically. Just random episodes whenever they were on TV. So I'm kind of interested in watching each series in its entirety. Anyone else planning on doing this? Or an abridged viewing the better route?

TOS: 3 seasons, 79 episodes
NG: 7 seasons, 178 episodes
DS9: 7 seasons, 176 episodes
Voyager: 7 seasons, 172 episodes
Enterprise: 4 seasons, 98 episodes

Total: 28 seasons, 703 episodes

Damn, that's gonna take a while...
