Moviemaker George Lucas wants his first Star Wars sequel banned, as he is so disappointed with its quality. The one-off, two-hour-long The Star Wars Holiday Special was originally screened on the CBS network in 1978 and tells the story of Chewbacca's journey home with Hans Solo to celebrate Life Day with his family. During the course of the much-maligned movie, Carrie Fisher's beautiful Leia is seen reducing Hans Solo and Luke Skywalker to tears with a song. A contributor on the Star Wars website comments, "The Holiday Special has always been the red-headed step child of the Star Wars family." While a source at LucasFilm adds, "The Holiday Special was the biggest f***-up ever. The Force was definitely not with Mr. Lucas the day that doozy was born."

Plot summary: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0193524/plotsummary

"It is Lifeday, a holiday that is celebrated on Chewbacca's home planet Kashyyyk. Chewie and Han Solo are trying to get to the planet where Chewie's family is waiting for him, but the empire is out searching for the rebels, giving everyone a hard time. While we are waiting we get a look at the everyday life of a wookie family. We meet all the familiar characters from Star Wars and we are introduced to Bobba Fett during a small cartoon. We also pay a visit to the Cantina and meet all the monsters again."

Smegging smeg of a smeg!
I have a copy of this somewhere that I picked up at a record show. It's just fucking terrible. :lol

You do get to see Chewbacca's family and see Boba Fett for the first time (albeit in cartoon form) though. Oh, and Carrie Fisher's on some sort of drug.

Welcome to 1978......

there were 2 other Star Wars TV movies, the Ewok adventures. They released them on DVD earlier this month.

I've seem half of this before... my god is it horrible. I'm all for the banning.. except for the fact that this would lead to no DVD appearance of it. It's a classic in its own right. Wookie masturbation innuendo > *

All I remember of it are Boba Fett and that it looked like it took place in the Ewok village, even though it was supposed to be Chewbacca's homeworld.

If this was made today, do you think the peope who feverishly defend the new trilogy would defend this crap?

Considering the stuff they say, I do.

He has not seen the new trilogy has he?
Have you seen the Holiday Special? It's seriously the most embarassing thing ever put on TV. I remember struggling to get through the first 10 minutes of it before finally switching it off.

Though if you're THAT curious about it, just read this instead.

It really has to be seen to believe. Its an atrocity. A comic atrocity.

The scene with Bea Arthur singing with the aliens of the Mos Eisley Cantena is probaby the greatest.

I've seen this. It is unbelieveably bad for something involving actual cast members from Star Wars. And not always bad in a funny way either, sometimes it's just flat-out boring as Hell bad.

If you do watch it to the end, you'll get to see one of the best parts: Harrison Ford bear-hugging a couple wookies and overacting like he's just come across some long-lost relatives. Probably the funniest part of the flick.

At Comic Con someone asked if it'll ever be released on DVD and the president of Lucasfilm Licensing said "Ever hear of a snowball in hell?" :lol

I have this on VHS. It mostly revolves around the wookies and all the wookies speak.. wookie? and its not translated. So it's that GWHAAARR back and forth constantly and you have no idea what is being said. You just sort of guess by whats going on. I remember at one point Grandpa wookie gets a gift and it's like a new "VR film" which he turns on and its like some seductress lady dancing and he is getting off on it.

There is an english speaking merchant and there is also musical parts, songs fitting for broadway with psychadelic effects going on in the background. All the early music video effect tricks are used in the Holiday special.

I think I'll put it in right now just for fun.

edit: Forgot they distract the imperial troopers with a holographic Jefferson Starship music video.
