Star Wars Outlaws runs "pretty poorly" on the Switch 2 [Update] GWG: "I was wrong"

Nintendo wants their games to run at above 1080p and at 60fps...
meanwhile this probably runs at 720p and at an unstable 30fps...

Nintendo is doing the correct thing.
Not Nintendo as a whole, I am sure Monolith will grace us with another over ambitious open world running at some awful resolution like 360p. The Xenoblade games are the perfect definition of biting of more than you can chew (atleast their first releases) and since they never released/will release on PC, we are left waiting for Nintendo to grace us with a patch to increase the res to 1080p.

If ubisoft can do this.....Nintendo is getting lazy with their games.
What games? Mk world and banaza did start development on switch 1. Still looks good, bit isnt a realistic game. Metroidnis also a switch 1 developed game. Luigi mansion and metroid prime 1 are one of the best looking games on switch 1. Same with zelda for what the physic open world engine is...

Most Nintendo games started development on Switch 1, I'd wait for some studios like Monolith Soft or NLG that are definitely focusing on Switch 2, specially v Monolith that made things that no other Nintendo game did

"Textures" or the lack thereof?

GVG have just released a video stating that they ended up being wrong about the video referenced in the OP

but was he really wrong though ? If he played a messy build that they weren't even allowed to film, it was a legitimate video do so, it's not like his experience was wrong

I've only found one answer for myself. It doesn't matter.
I'll wait until the game is out and then I'll wait for reviews to form a rough initial opinion as to whether I want to play it on the Switch myself (probably not).
Then I'll wait until the game gets cheaper.
Everything else is speculation and debate that doesn't really lead to much. At least not for me.

"Textures" or the lack thereof?

IDK it may or may not be, maybe it's that texture or the sun angle, I mean, there are fine details in the rock anyway but like some of the normal map is not producing shadows? Weird, specially when the rest of the textures look just normal, like the ones in the other consoles, also Switch 2 handles some things better than Series S like geometry level of detail in a reflection section where I see better details in the reflection AND in an tree right above the water

Sacrifices were made to keep the framerate stable. Thankfully most other effects, including vegetation, seemed to have not been cut down as much.

This is still a pretty impressive port considering it's development cycle was most likely rushed to meet Switch 2 launch window and it appears to be extremely stable while comparable to Current gen systems.

Seeing a lot of footage from the game, it seems a bit better than the initial stuff I saw, so maybe I'll give it a try. And surprisingly it is sold at 60$, not 70-80

On a 7" handheld screen, no one is standing there staring at rocks.
That's a weak dumb justification.
You don't know how everybody plays games.
Will you make a justification for every weak aspect of games as "it's ok because nobody goes there/does that/uses that"?

What's gives better immersion, good textures or bad textures in the background?
I read 'immersion' a lot... And then I see people panning the camera as if they have epilepsy, jumping around like madmen when there is downtime and a long walk ahead, always sprinting even in crowded town sections, standing in the face of NPCs, rushing back and forth without consideration...
It's not an attack on you, just something that came to mind when I read immersion again.
When I play, I pan the camera slowly, watch the environment. I sometimes look at details and take it all in, and I still don't need 60fps for motion clarity as some others do and I don't need textures to be perfect. I enjoy NMS since day 1 and have spend a lot of time just looking at creatures or plants. That game has made significant graphical changes since it's inception but I wouldn't call it a looker per se.

I love looking at details and taking things slow too.
That's why these stupid comments of "nobody looks at rocks, so it's fine if they look like shit" annoy me.
Using the same logic we could say "Characters don't need shoes, nobody looks at their feet!.... They don't need feet either"
"Characters don't need shadows, when I'm fighting enemies I'm not looking to see if there are shadows", etc.

Game looks playable to me.

Was expecting current gen level performance after new videos and apologies, but those textures are clearly PS3 gen.

PS5 gen draw distance + PS3 gen textures = PS4 class visuals.

Seems about right.

I think on the whole nobody really looks at rocks etc. But if that;s what you like to do more power to you I say.

A few visible downgrades, but it's more than accetpable for stable performance. Especially so early in the life of the console, as developers still need to get accustomed to its spcificities such as DLSS/RTX on a lower power machine.

If this becomes the baseline for third party ports, we will be eating really well on Switch 2.

If all 3rd party games come to Switch 2, will it hold back PS5/XSX ?

Diminishing return is what's holding generational leap back, the question is if AAA can even take advantage of Switch 2/XSS level hardware at their fullest considering 8th gen is when it started hitting so hard...

Switch 2 keeps racking up the Ws. Game looks great and a far cry from what the haters said it would be. Lots of crow being served up today. Love to see it.

I am feeling pretty good about my Series S after seeing such enthusiastic reception for shit graphics here.
Some people are just able to have perspective and don't expect 4k 60fps with full ray tracing on a 10W machine that has the possibility of being taken outside.

I mean, three decades ago people were happily stacking bricks on an actual brick while sitting on the shitter...and now we have people on here bitching and moaning about games looking worse on a switch 2 than on a Series X and PS5.
It's amazing what you can play nowadays, on home consoles and in this case on a hybrid, but a lot of people still easily latch on to the negativity that is spread around us everywhere, never happy, never content... Equanimity impossible.

I bought Outlaws for PS5 at the beginning of the week just to see what the fuss is about. I'm not expecting much so I'll be entertained even for just a couple of hours.
But seeing this port I'm happy with my purchase of a Switch 2, there will be more quality video games coming down the line...and I'm perfectly happy with the cutbacks Devs have to do on this machine that is more capable than a lot of people seem to believe.

No worries.

Another console manufacturer is planning a handheld.

You will also get a chance at payback.

Tbh this looks and works surprisingly good on Switch 2, probably the most impressive port right now on par with Cyberpunk. To be in the launch windows, is pretty impressive.

Textures get a big hit in close up view and is strange, maybe some sort of bug or heavy optimization, but overall is a very good work for one of the most graphically impressive game released until today on any platform.

Obviously if you are looking to play it 4k/60fps etc... you are not going to want it on Switch 2, I don't even know what some people are expecting lol

I don't care about payback, I'm not in a fight or a war. I play video games, regardless of the box manufacturer or the dev. If it seems interesting, I'll give it a shot. If it surprises me or has mechanics/ideas I never experienced in this particular way, I keep an eye on the developer.
Sold my Series X and PSVR2 solely because money was tight at the beginning of the year. Kids can do that to you... And the X was the least used machine. (Besides the PSVR2 which I only used to play NMS a couple of times anyway)

For a handheld, very impressive. But I can't help but laugh at the hair rendering, it almost looks like her hair is smoldering and about to catch on fire as the upscaling is trying its best to resolve but is all over the place giving off a strange effect.

Wow, simply wow. It looks so close.

Biggest downgrade are missing assets and textures but other than that? Very impressive.

I do wonder though, given how the Switch 2 has more RAM than the Series S, the textures are probably limited because of game size, which they probably want to keep as low as possible. They should make an optional texture pack.

Also it seems like the grass is different from the other consoles, and it actually looks a lot better IMO.

You.... play games and stare at textures?
Come on that's a weak excuse. Why do we have textures at all then? Might aswell get rid of them entirely and have a tiny download.
It's the closest a handheld has ever come to matching consoles in the same gen.
The PSP was just as close. Much like the Switch 2 released 1-2 years from the next consoles, it was released near the PS3 but was competing with the PS2. Moores law was moving a lot faster then too and the PSP came very close to matching a PS2.

From lol it's the shitty Nintenduh hardware to (almost, just because the downgrades are obvious in LOD/vegetation density and other ways, though they hardly detract from the whole and downgrades were a given) miracle port of previously unoptimised and demanding on most platforms game? 🤷‍♂️

Reflections are a lot more stable on the Switch 2 compared to Series S.

Even less noise than PS5. Is the game using Ray Reconstruction...? If not, I guess DLSS acts as a natural denoiser here.

Given it was a game key you would think that wouldn't be an issue but (I think it was the GVG video) that said they got the size of the game file down for the switch 2 version.

Maybe download size was a consideration for ubi for what ever reason.

Pretty sure that's just missing waves on the Switch 2.

Groan, it's gonna be an Oliver video. Easily the worst DF presenter, he always sounds so bored and gloomy.
At begining yes, he wanted to replicate the "DF style", but recently he found his own voice and pace, so his videos are better

What if Ubisoft never fixed the other build, because they are Ubisoft?

Would we still have our definitive proof of what Switch 2 can do?

There's a reason I just didn't bother touching this thread lol.
