Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

Just watch ESB, the best and only really good SW movie (IMO).

I don't agree at all. Mainly because that movie doesn't stand on its own. It may be the best in he trilogy, but it requires the support of ANH to set up the world (which saves it a lot of time and it can get on with the story), and ROTJ which has the redemption arc.

Have we ever seen a low atmosphere dogfight like that before? Hoth?

I wouldn't say Hoth counts, so I guess not, not in the films anyway. So either Dice knew or they are being lazy and just happened to push a mode that is similar to all the dog fights in the new film.

No, it looks like the original trilogy but with much better modern effects.

I would definitely say this is far, far flashier than the originals, which is why it looks like one of the prequels to me. Just better. Much better. I'm not saying it looks like the prequels in that it looks like a bad movie or whatever, but the colors, energy, and special effects out the wazoo absolutely remind me of the prequel aesthetic.

Just again, handled much better this time.

I've been purposely avoiding any news on this movie (want to be pleasantly surprised when I see it), but damn if that trailer didn't get me HYPED AS FUCK.

Anyone know if Lando is gonna be in it? I know folks were questioning Luke's absence in the trailer, but I'd to know if Lando will be making an appearance in any of the upcoming Star Wars films.

I don't think this is a spoiler since it's a case of someone not being in a movie, but no. Lando's not in it. Billy Dee Williams is however voicing Lando on Rebels, so here's to hoping he shows up in Episode VIII.

And most of all, don't bother with the prequels. So bad, and they don't really tell you anything you need to know that you wouldn't know from the OT.

More awful advice, simply because some people like the prequels and some people don't, like with everything. Telling someone to ignore something that you didn't like personally is pretentious as hell.

The only good large scale action scene in the prequels was the short moment when the clone warriors went full Apocalypse Now on that alien planet.

I love that Rey blinks when she fires the blaster at 1:53, kind of shows that she is probably a novice with using a gun. Course I could be reading too much into it, but I thought it was a nice touch.

Also my speculation on Finn's desertion:

At 0:39 Finn takes off his helmet covered in dirt (blood?) with a "what just happened" look on his face. I'm wondering if he was part of the Stormtrooper group that is sacking the village at night. Once its over he questions what he is doing and decides to get the hell out of the Empire.

Ha ha Daisy Ridley's reaction video is pretty awesome. Best of luck to her as this looks to be a big step in her acting career. Rey is looking to be pretty good.

Thanks. I hope he'll be in a future movie at least.

What are you talking about? What he posted is an obvious bit of speculation you can gather from the trailer. The voice overs and clips lead us to believe it's talking about Finn.....then you get the bait and switch in full effect. This makes sense and I thought the same from the trailer as well....

What's the point of doing that, though? "The Jedi is not actually this character you've never known before, but rather this other character you've never known before!"

The previous teasers and the trailer already suggest it won't be like that - seems more like they've tried to emulate the style of the OT cinematography but using up to date special effects etc. Looks fantastic.

As for the lack of 'mirth' - I think that might be the case. The audience probably marines everything was hunky dory after ROTJ with the empire gone. That clearly isn't the case so you're already starting out quite dark. Then the trailer shows talk of the rebel victories and Jedi almost like fairy tales. So I think it might start out with the protagonists accepting the rule of empire and thinking nothing can be done, the discovering from the old gang that the rebel stories are real, and then using that to give them self belief building up to a new rebel attack.

Edit: I expect a love letter like Super 8 was to 80s Spielberg
You know? The first teaser was drop dead gorgeous and it looked like a proper Star Wars film. I'm only starting to get second thoughts because the trailer looks way too close to JJ's usual style, which I don't find particularly engaging. If the film sticks close to the teaser, I'll be a very pleased nerd.

This trailer is perfect. Instead of telling people things, it's carefully constructed in such a way that hints at things rather than pure blatancy, leading to conversation and speculation. Contrast this with the Terminator Genisys trailer, which was like oh look, here's the film's biggest twist!

...even if most of the speculation has been nuts and bolts so far, especially with the Kyluke Ren thing.

I really love the vibe of that "forest in the dark" scene near the end. That fight is gonna be epic and tense, i can feel it.

Trailer barely tell us anything except the bad guy want to continue Vader and Palpatine's work and that the Jedis and dark side are a myth now. Kinda like it that way.

I'm going to guess the reason Luke wasn't shown is that:

1) His role is minor compared to Han and Leia.
2) To make the audience's reaction much more enjoyable when he finally show up.

FOH

Empire is the best, but they all have their charm.

Besides, if someone only watched Empire, they'd be lost as fuck. No, you have to watch all the movies to get the full effect. Or, at least Episodes 4-6.

My biggest concern is that the film will be too simple and too linear. There's a New Order, and then there's the opposing force, one will have a massive weapon, and our heroes must stop them because they hold the key.

It's so standard, it hurts.

The Clone Wars animated series did some neat stuff; there were arcs with bounty hunters hitting where it hurts, there were double crossings, triple crossings, and there was great insight into how the galaxy "operates."

I really hope the filmmakers take advantage of the near-infinite amount of possibilities and worlds to discover. Or it'll be like Star Trek Into Darkness again: boring as sin.

I agree about the risks (portraying the clones as veterans) that the Clone Wars took (in some ways undoing the 'damage' done by the prequels) within the Star Wars universe.

Though I liked the Force Awakens poster it did send alarm bells off in my head with it's picture of yet another Death Star style planet weapon. In seven films it would make the THIRD time such a narrative/plot device has been used.

It's not a Walt Disney Studios film, its all Lucasfilm. Operating on it's own like Marvel which all of their movies have been PG-13.

Lucasfilm is it's own independent subsidary, along the lines of Marvel, Pixar, or ESPN. Ratings of Walt Disney Studio films are pretty meaningless.

Not when Iger has a four billion dollar expenditure to justify with this film being the first out of the gate I'm sure all this supposed 'silo thinking' goes right out of the window.

Besides, the most powerful force within Disney is their 'Consumer products division' and if they want a PG Star Wars then that's what's happening.

We'll agree to disagree.

Works for me.

How do ships bank and swerve in space?

It's a movie dude.

I know it is. But it's different to suspend belief for space battles which I've never seen, lightsabers which I've never seen, robots which I've never seen and aliens which I've never seen vs. ships flying around in atmosphere like they're F16's without wings to keep them up when I've been on planes and see planes pretty much every day and know how they stay in the air.

No need to get so defensive over it.

You don't need to see any of the Star Wars films before this one. Just go in and you'll be fine, the opening crawl will fill you in on what you need to know.
