no way.. the game is already 35 gigs or so. High res textures? bump that number higher.

there's no reason they would go out of their way to downrez everything for the beta.. this is how the game looks. :\

I could maybe see things go as with the textures option, it was set to medium regardless of what option you put in due to stress testing (think BF3 beta). Hell if I know. Same with the whole AA being disabled.

High res textures are in the game. I saw the same gear go from nice looking in the character select screen to shit in-game. I'm hoping the high res option is bugged.

Except unless textures were not done yet. In the previous couple builds the game was missing alot of textures in places. Since then over the builds they have updated textures on various parts of the games with higher rez ones, theres a chance we will see more texture updates done in places still as every build update has done so. Some textures can still be placeholders for what we know and will still get updated. I doubt there will be a high rez texture option added, but we still will possibly see some better ones implemented still, though I don't expect the whole game to have all it's textures magically improved. But some like armor textures really should get improved.

Meh, I wish beta was still up to test that texture option to see if they go from worse when lowering the option. Unless we have some general testers here that can check that out for us.

I can try when the login servers are back up.

Possibly. I have a friend who's a general tester. I'll see if he'll let me use his account for a short while and see if I can test out that texture theory out as well.

Star Wars, Bioware, and KOTR are the only reasons I'm interested in this game but everything I have seen so far reminds me a lot of Rift, especially the presentation. Are there any similarities between these two games at all?

I disliked Rift.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
As the lead combat designer himself said a few weeks ago on the subject, they have Force Speed, "one of the best closers in the game". It can also be talented to reduce all movement impairments.

If you talent down a particular tree, they also have Force Pull.

Sounds great. I think my decision is made!

YOUR folder is 35 gigs because you decided to patch rather than uninstall the old client and now have two copies of the client. My folder is 18.5 gigs because I was never invited before and did a fresh install.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
The site is down so any access to any patch notes are unavailable. Unless you have access to the site to see those notes, they are under NDA.

I'm a general tester, just at work. I've never actually seen patch notes on any site, just through the launcher itself.

Believe it's a change in texture filtering in cutscenes, not actually better textures.

I'm certain it's higher res textures for cutscenes. Why (aside from them just looking way better)? Because 2 or 3 builds ago, Twi'leks had a problem where their hands would be textured with "Default" during cutscenes only. During normal gameplay, they were fine. Also, particularly, when playing on my laptop, I get UE3-style texture pop-in when quest cutscenes trigger for the first time.

Godammit, uninstalled everything so I can just pull down the latest build for launch and the only installer I have on my computer is too old to patch itself and now I can't install until the site is back.

Oh, Billy...

This is a new downloader so I'm assuming this is the final space requirement.

Looks like servers are going to be down at least for a day or two, as the new build sticky states the ETA is "this week". Oh well. I would say it's good timing so I could check out 4.3 in wow, but since I've recently been afflicted by unplayable lag in that game, I might actually have to do something productive when I get home.

I knew this would happen.
It definitely felt like they were closer to a live patch.
The question now, is how much will that be? I'm getting an SSD on Thursday, so yeah.

Yeah, I was going to say that I did a clean install on Sunday and pulled down a little over 20gb. If the retail install is 35, I'm going to need another SSD.

They changed the file format I think, so the massive amount of music & voice file size went way down. The client shouldn't be that large at release. Not 40 gigs large anyway.

whew, makes sense. It scared the hell out of me being that big.

some textures could always be improved, of course, I'm just saying don't expect the game to drastically change between now and release

Also, I really get the feeling I'm going to need to do a clean install before early access regardless of what they say at the moment.

I forgot to test it out in the beta, but do Light Side and Dark Side points cancel each other out or do they get added to separate pools for gear requirements? If you go full Light Side and get 2000 Light points, you can wear 2000 Light gear and 1000 Light gear but no Dark gear. But if you get 1000 Light points and 1000 Dark points, can you wear both 1000 Light gear and 1000 Dark gear or do you end up with an alignment of 0 and can wear no Force gear at all?

They cancel out. You have a single pooled score. Light Side is positive, Dark Side is negative.

The gear requirement says you need a certain level of light/dark side, so it's not based off the amount of points.

I got up to lightside III at the end of the beta.

Official boards are down for me atm, but I thought I read that they needed/lacked a way to close the distance, to slow someone, etc. I really only care about pvp... I'll just tank for PvE (assuming a respec is easy/cheap to do).

I played played an assassin to level 19. Did a bunch of pvp from 10-19. The way I dealt with people is by starting with the long cast crowd control which doesn't do any damage. The person would then use a cc breaker ability which then I'd use the instant stun that does damage. While he's stunned now I casted a spell forgot the name but does a crap ton a damage over time. Now the stuns broken so I pop recklessness which increases damage from shock. That does a crap ton of damage all while I'm behind the guy and start backstabbing. I'm loving the class but can some confirm if the backs tabs get better? I had the pvp saber and all blues and the backstab wasn't that much damage :/. Also you could close the gap with that insane sprint that has a 30 second cooldown.

I can see it getting annoying if you go back and forth on Force alignment decisions (instead of min-maxing the story), and and keep dropping out of the requirements of the gear you're already wearing. If they add neutral gear, it'll get even worse.

There is no advantage between Dark Side or Light Side, and I'm sure grey will be the same. It's just personal preference.

It's not really min maxing. Star Wars is pretty black and white with moral decisions, unfortunately. This isn't a Mass Effect or Witcher where you can easily have Gray morals.

So how is this going to work with not needing to delete the client and early beta...I bought the game via Amazon, and have early access...will I not need to re-install the game that comes via Amazon?

One thing I noticed is that I very quickly stopped role playing and started trying to game the morality system when I got dark side and light side points that cancelled each other out.

No, you just download the game and put in the code that comes in the box from Amazon.
