Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game | The Official Thread

The lack of spoilers plus the fact that the wave was not present at world's leads me to believe that we're only getting the TIE fo and T70 this side of the new year. I'm really disappointed with that. I wanted the entire wave for Christmas, was going to be the first time I ever had the willpower to not just buy them all day one.

I'm still surprised they didn't release those two expansions with the new Core Set.

I expected that to see that, too.

I still don't think we'll see anything before the end of the year except the Assault Carrier. It takes a lot of time for FFG stuff to get across the ocean and through customs.

Urgh, so I'm in a bit of a losing slump lately. My UNTOUCHABLE BOBA FETT build is proving to be very touchable but it's because I'm losing focus very easily and making stupid mistakes and I've no idea why I am.

Further to this, I haven't made a decent list in months.

Any advice to help me get back into the game? Because I'm going into games expecting to lose, losing, and not enjoying myself.

Find a ship/pilot/combo you really enjoy using, and start building lists around that. Don't use something just because it may be easier to win with.

In my case, those ships/pilots are Deathrain, Redline, Emon, TIE Interceptors, ColzetTrollzet and A-wings. Every time I play a list with any of those things I'm a happy Nete no matter if I win or I lose.

Hard to say for certain, folk get into mental slumps for so many reasons. It might be worth resetting your Xwing thinking. Try out a list that is completely inverse what you are usually using, if you are a Scum player then build an Imperial or Rebel list, build a list around a ship you have never used before or just a different makeup of list (swarms, 2 ship, 3 ship lists etc.) I am at my best when I am flying my Decimator and Phantom tag team, but I admit sometimes I am very very sick of those two ships and when that happens Scum help out a lot and I fly some mean Aggressor Firespray builds.

My slump is over!

I went back to a build that I haven't used for a while, but enjoyed. I went with a TIE Swarm. Oh man, it felt good to get a win again. I only lost 1 ship vs a TLT Horton, Adv Homing Missiles Blount and HLC+Jan Wild Space Fringer.

Though to be completely honest, I shouldn't have won. His dice were awful.

My list:
6 TIE Swarm (100/100)
=====================
TIE Fighter: Black Squadron Pilot (14 + 2)
+ Crack shot (1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Fighter: Black Squadron Pilot (14 + 2)
+ Crack shot (1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Fighter: Black Squadron Pilot (14 + 2)
+ Crack shot (1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Fighter: Black Squadron Pilot (14 + 2)
+ Crack shot (1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Fighter: "Howlrunner" (18 + 2)
+ Crack shot (1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Fighter: "Night Beast" (15 + 1)
+ Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Crackshot came in handy. I can see why it is popular.
I may drop night beast, he survived the game, but didn't really get much done.

Crackshot is really, really good. Latelly I've been using a semi-swarm of TIE/fo with Redline, maybe I should give a try with 4 Black+Crackshot instead. The extra shield and 2-Segnor are amazing, tho.

I made two lightly themed squads for a 100pt Vs 100pt game with my brother in law tonight. He has only played a few times but is looking to get into the game. Currently only three of us play so another in the mix would be great. It is a Rebel Vs Imperial match where the Rebels, led by General Solo and Luke Skywalker, have tracked down Darth Vader and Krassis Trelix as they try to transport a Rebel Captive to the Death Star.

Rebel list 100pts.
Han Solo
-Millennium Falcon
-C-3PO
-Luke Skywalker

Rookie Pilot
Blue Squadern Pilot

Imperial List 100pts
Darth Vader
-TIE/x1
-Predator
-Adv. Targeting Computer

Krassis Trelix
-Gunner
-Heavy Laser Cannon
-Rebel Captive

Backstabber

I've included a lot of cards and characters that let you re-roll or change the dice rolled. He likes dice games so the more rolling the better with whichever squad he chooses to use.

If we get time Bossk and his Hired Guns will track down the winner and try to take the newly added bounty on them either dead or alive.

Scum List 99pts
Bossk
-Calculation
-Recon Specialist
-Hounds Tooth

Hired Gun
-BTL
-Unhinged Astromech
-Twin Laser Turret

Hired Gun
-BTL
-Unhinged Astromech
-Twin Laser Turret

I wasn't a fan of these burn cards when they first started showing up. But I'm really starting to appreciate them. Especially on paper-ships like TIEs. They'll only be used once, but if you learn to pick the right time to use them, they're deadly.

I'm not sure there's any situation really to save crack shot, especially from a cheap TIE.

Punch the damage in when you have a chance.

Maybe against a regen ship.

Seems like a better ordnance card tbh... how sad is that.

Ha! So sad that I didn't even consider their similarities!

I suppose when I run bombs and missiles, I know what they're worth and the opportunity to use them is, they're attacks that should be used the moment you're able to.

Because these aren't straight up attacks, it brings a fear of wasting them to the game, which is why I didn't like them so much at first. Like inertial dampeners for example.

For what it's worth, "The Force Awakens" stand alone ships are now listed as "On the Boat". We may get them this year yet!

They didn't get on the boat until Nov. 3 (or maybe a day or two before, depending on how quickly they update their website). Those things are probably coming in January. Maybe they'll technically come before the end of the year ... like on Dec. 30.

Why must you crush my dreams?

I'm not trying to! I'm trying to keep you real! LoL. Six weeks on the boat, 10 days in distribution channels! (Barring weird shit like Lucasfilm being too lazy to approve designs like with the Imperial Raider that got held up from late spring until the last day of July.)

This is such a good game once you assemble enough ships to be able to play a variety of lists. One game I go straight aces, the next TLTs, the next B-Wings and Biggs.

Only thing is I wish I could just grab a bunch of Z-95s cheap so I could try out the Z-95 swarm.

I wonder if a Tycho + Z-95 miniswarm would work as well as a Soontir/Whisper + TIE Fighter miniswarm.

I do own four Z-95 models when I count the Scum ones, and I have a bunch of promo Bandit Squadron Pilot cards from the Assault at Imdaar Alpha events

Hmmm

Are there any tactics to using the Tie Punisher/bombers? I tried to use it but it ended up being my first ship to go and seems that is the par for the course.

I have nine >_>

I've thought about doing a straight up 8x Binayre Pilot list just for fun.
I once faced a squad that included 12 Binayre Pilots in a 200 points per side game (he also had a HWK-290 and a y-wing for 14 total ships). I had a TIE Phantom with gunner, predator, advanced sensors, and advanced cloaking device on my side. Predator's bonus against low pilot skill was a big plus and, given the size of his squad, I almost always had someone in range 1. It was a toal bloodbath, lol. I was able to take out a Z-95 in virtually every turn. Also, thanks to cloak I was essentially invulnerable against the z-95s' fire.

That's what's happened to my TIE Punisher, too. I haven't figured out how to use them.

Somehow, I love the balancelessness of Phantoms.

Ordnance Tubes is cool. Unlimited missiles and torpedoes!

I don't like that Docking Clamps forces you to have all the same type of ship, though. I own fewer than four TIE Interceptors, Bombers and Advanceds, so I'll only be able to use Fighters with the Assault Carrier unless I pony up some more cash.

Look for the Imperial Assault Carrier Expansion Pack, its Gozanti-class Cruiser, and its many upgrades to increase the scope and thematic appeal of your Epic Play matches when it arrives at retailers in just a few weeks!

Yep, we're getting it by Christmas, it seems.

Brb,ordering mine.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that this is what we get after such a long silence. As a TIE Fighter fan I am excited to see new pilots.

Also agent Kallus!

I'm excited to see the new TIE pilots as well. Hopefully they detail them next week. I'm on the edge of ordering the sucker and that would push me over.

I also played Rebel for the 1st time yesterday and feel like I had a pretty good combo worked out. I ran Dash in the Outrider with the Heavy Laser Cannon, but also ran Biggs with a Shield upgrade and R2-D2. Keeping Biggs in close proximity helped alleviate the "doughnut" problem and R2 kept his shields healthy.

I like that idea. I really appreciate Biggs and his ability. Integrated astromech is gonna bring him back and he's gonna be awesome.

Anyone have any experience with Battle Foam? My GF picked me up a case but I none of the custom foam. I looked at their current selection and it seems space inefficient. I will probably do a custom tray but was wondering if any has tried this yet? I plan on buying pretty much 1 of everything so I wouldn't need as many duplicate slots that they offer on most of their stuff.

Well I was reading this thread and I bought the new force awakens starter pack and a TIE Interceptor and A-Wing. Game looks like a lot of fun and I have some buddies I am sure would like to play. Do you guys think that's an even amount of figures for 2v2 gameplay?

Eh, I guess, if you give the TIE Interceptor, X-Wing and A-Wing each to a person, and give the two TIE/FO Fighters to the fourth person.

Typically, 2v2 games are played in the Epic format with 400 points for each team ... you've obviously got a ways to go before you have that many ships, though, heh.

I've got no experience with the company in question but if they do pick n pluck foam then I recommend that as it will let you store your ships however you want.

Welcome to the game! It's your first game with your friends so you should be alright. Just keep the points even, say 35 each. Once you've enjoyed that game, think about picking up a falcon and/or Slave 1 expansion so you get big ship experience. Then you'll be hooked. If you're UK based, I recommend ChaosCards, Wordery, BookDepository and BooksETC, they're great for x wing deals.

Sure, you can do a game where each person controls one pilot (With one person controlling two TIE Fighters) and gets a certain number of points. Only issue with this type of play (Called "furball") is that if your ship gets destroyed you're out, which can be a bit unfun.

I'd heavily recommend proxying a second Push the Limit so you have one for the Interceptor and one for the A-Wing.

I'm excited as well! These new aces are just what I needed to push me over the edge to pick up an Imperial Assault Carrier. "Wampa" seems like a blast, and "Chaser" actually might have some synergy with one of my current builds. I'll have to figure out a way to transport my first Epic ship though.

In other news, I just acquired the Force Awakens Core Set. However, as I was punching out the tokens, I noticed that something was off about the movement dials... they were all for the First Order TIEs! So I can't play with my shiny new T-70 X-Wing. :-/ I've filled out a component request on Fantasty Flight's website. Hopefully they come through.

I'm sure they will. FFG is really good about sending out replacement parts.

Does Wampa's ability let him completely ignore shields?

Yes.

Wampa plus Lt. Colzet could be hilarious.

Does Wampa deal a damage card per crit you cancel, or is it one damage max no matter how many crits were canceled?

The golden rule of X-Wing is 'Do what the cards say, not what they don't say' which means, as it doesn't say 1 damage for each crit, its safe to assume it's 1 damage regardless of how many crits you roll.

I'm pretty sure it's this. Otherwise it would say, "For each critical hit you cancel..."

That's what I thought but I had to ask because I knew it would come up at the table.

So I found some Armada deals during this past Thanksgiving sale week and went ahead and picked up 1 Core Set and each Wave 1 mini. By no means am I abandoning X-Wing, but I couldn't figure out what else to treat myself for xmas this year and the deals were too tempting.

I'm going to hold off until xmas to open them so I have something to look forward to. xD

I have a problem.

You think that's bad? I'm invested in Star Trek Attack Wing, XWing and Armada... And now I've just seen there's a Halo miniatures game. My wallet hates me.

ehhhhh not so fast ... if you like those games, I'm not sure you'll like the Halo minis game. I checked it out at GenCon — didn't play it, but I listened to the designers explain a bit, looked at the minis and leafed through an available rulebook, which was rather large with rather small print. The game is much more complex than X-Wing or Attack Wing. It reminded me of Warhammer, which I guess makes sense considering it's designed by Europeans. (The designers had German (?) accents, I think.) The minis were super cool looking, but the game requires a million of them to be on the board to play — again, like Warhammer — which looks really sweet but it's probably a hassle and a half to actually move and shoot and defend with all those little units. (IMO, anyway... I tried playing Warhammer 40k and I hated how it took an hour to execute one turn and I could honestly lie on a couch and take a nap for 20 minutes while my opponent did stuff and I wouldn't miss a thing.)

If you like Warhammer and hate having money, though, go for it, I guess.
