They should do something about the units not standing out. I can hardly tell them from the land in most of those pictures.

I am noticing that too, in motion it will likely be much more obvious. I never had any problems spotting them in the battle reports. It's just harder in stills I guess.

Starcraft Broodwar can be viewed clearly and easily on YouTube. My concern is that Starcraft II won't be watchable on YouTube.

YouTube HD? This is a problem of 3D games in general I feel, it's hard to see what is going on at 320x240 in any 3D game that is using up 1280x720 or more in a very detailed way.

every single unit has idle animations, so they should stand out even if they're just standing still. it's only a problem in screenshots, i think.

I try my best to resist holding off on reading about the game's details because I want to experience it new when I play it, but looking at those beautiful screens makes it so hard. I've been waiting for this game for what seems like forever. Hopefully it's not delayed but I'm fine with it if they do. I've had Street Fighter 4 (the other game I was waiting forever for) to tide me over so far.

New screens for me, from the Design Philosophies article @ IGN.

Really liking the city drop at the end there, and the big ultralisk looking unit before that.

All in all, they've got a nice amount of varied terrain from what I've seen, quite a few not here (grass, lava, etc), and the two expansions will probably bring even more types of terrain. For some reason, I find that a good thing :lol
omg so fucking beautiful

You will be able to tell while the game is in motion.

God this game is going to be glorious on my 1920X1200 monitor

Wait, I thought Blizzard was debating whether to lock the resolution, so that players don't have an advantageous view of more of the battlefield compared to people who have lower resolutions.

They said widescreen will see slightly more, so all the competitive players will have to get a widescreen.

more likely that'll simply be an option for multiplayer games only. there's no reason to enforce it in the single player campaign.

I haven't had an problem with the battle reports, though I've been watching the HD versions. I think these are pretty zoomed in screens, and the game in motion won't be as busy.

WTF is going on with this game you would think they are making an operating system.
You've never been a part of pre-release Blizzard games, have you?

This thread was made WAY too early.

People expected the beta to be underway right now >.<

And what I heard from Bliuzzard, they are basically set but there's still some stuff to do with bnet2 and it will be "very soon".

You could always run the 16:10 resolutions on a 4:3 monitor though, you'll just have it letterboxed. I've done that on my CRT before from time to time. It's really not too different from watching a DVD on a 4:3 TV, which just about everyone has done.

It's just me, or this match was poor compared to the battle reports ? I couldn't tell those where pro gamers.

EDIT: Added more links.

The protoss is probably Reach, who played like complete ass through the whole tourney, so that's probably part of it. I'm sure if this was Bisu vs Flash, it would be mind blowing. Flash is going to Blizzcon, so hopefully they'll give him a beta to practice on a bit so he can destroy everyone who dares play against him.

That exhibition match was between Warcraft 3 players, WhO and Shy. Allegedly, the governing body of E-Sports in Korea has prevented broadcasting of the exhibition games that have at least one licensed Starcraft pro-gamer playing.

Well everyone at the event played Starcraft 2 for only an hour or so, compared to Blizzard's balance testers that have been playing for 2 years. Plus the mentioned fact that they are Warcraft 3 players, and everyone (even Warcraft 3 players) will admiit that Starcraft is a harder game.

No need to reset. The first pages will still just be:

'download at 56% SOO EXCITED'
'72%, it was fast at first but now it's crawling ugh..'
'anyone getting an install error?'
'so the beta is out or this like a sign up program?'
'69% I'm getting closer now'
'hmm.. my login doesn't work'
'check these out while you download, stream video at justin.tv'
'where do I get this?'

That was a painful bump. The other matches still haven't surfaced I guess.

Nothing wrong with this thread being the general pre-release hype and beta thread. It just lacks a bit hype and beta from Blizzard.

It can't be much longer and supposedly (like 90% reliable) there is a NDA breaking on 17th of August, just a few days from Blizzcon.

STOP BUMPING THIS THREAD UNLESS THE BETA HAS STARTED.

Sorry about bumping it to say that, but it had to be done to avoid future useless bumpage.

Back this information up please.
According to some of the interviews at the event 8 weeks ago, there was a major change occuring with Bnet and it sounded like a tonne of work.

This is probably the worst bump ever.
