But fun!

I can't remember them all at this point, but I think the hardest one for me was the Infested mission. I ended up making a bunch of Mutas, stealing a Medivac, and escorting Kerrigan around everything to the building you were supposed to destroy.

Ugh, I just tried to do the one for "Shoot the Messenger". Where you have to destroy all three shuttle bays.

I think I'm gonna have to go back and do some these from the Master Archives. I have no idea how I'm going to do this one without mutas.

So here are two TvZs I played, nothing too mind blowing or technical, but I encountered a particularly BM Z that owned me by going pure Hydra into Swarm host.I completely messed up my early walloff and the Z got some free SCVs with 5 roaches. I got frustrated and threw some generic BM his way, but w/e .

In the second game I was put on the back foot by a fast natural steal with a hatchery. Any tips for how I should have handled game 1 or reacted better in game two would be welcome!

I've recently adopted tab production and love it, but if any fellow Ts have any tips for keyboard efficiency, micro macro, loading drops quickly, let me know :D

Nice! Movin up!

Thanks to Alynato for teaching me how to 10 pool. Already got one person with it 1v1! He didn't even try to defend though, which was a little disapointing. As soon as he saw it he GG'd.

I've got a question though, how do you properly micro your lings once you get there? You can't just a move them into the mineral line because they get surrounded and killed, so I guess you want to get the workers to come off the line and then attack them? Or go after key structures like depots/pylons/spawning pool/nexus?

How do cheese?

You gotta stay at the side of minerals and try picking workers 1 by 1. If he moves all workers, just back off and keep doing that. That or go for pylons or something like that. You just don't want to get surrounded. Don't forget to drone up/take a 2nd base while doing that too.

I found this old pic. Fits with the last few pictures posted here.

Spread creep everywhere, expand super early (base to the right, barely guarded), remember when the attacks come (they always come at the same times and in the same places so if you're positioned for them you'll be able to keep your army up) and... that's basically it. I liked having a bunch of static defense in front of your initial base, before the warp portal, but I don't know that it was necessary.

I had to load save even doing that, though; I'm not good enough to do the Mastery achievements straight-up.

They want to buff protoss. Going to try having warp prisms start with speed upgraded. This is definitely not insane.

Protoss is sorely missing an early game harassment option that rewards good micro and is exciting, like shuttle/reaver in brood war. Warp prisms are basically flying pylons rather than dropships since there's no protoss unit that can harass in low numbers. It was pretty disappointing that they didn't address this need in HOTS. Maybe they'll do that in the protoss expansion.

I play zerg, so it was probably a bit easier for me, but immediately go kill the units to the right of your base. Kerrigan alone should be able to kill most of them. Drone up and expand to the base that you just cleared. Upgrade ranged attack and armor as soon as you can. Malignant creep and the gas upgrades are good for this mission, since you'll be making a ton of gas units. Make queens to spread creep, then make tons of hydras with some roach support. There really aren't too many colossi or templar on that mission, so hydras should destroy just about everything if you macro well enough. You just need to be pretty aggressive any time you get a break.

So I've been focusing on my macro, beyond just building drones, and one thing I've learned is that you can build so many army units as zerg. When it's time to build units it's time to BUILD UNITS.

I used to not build nearly enough units. Gotta make sure you have the supply, then build all the units until you have no gas, and then build all the zerglings until you have no minerals.

It's nice to have big armies.

I haven't gone for that specific achievement, but one thing you can do is build macro hatches so that you can rally each hatch to a warp gate, build hydras and queens with max upgrades. Queens don't even need larvae, they can attack air, and they auto heal, and their beefy.

Then you can just make a ground army with kerrigan and role around killing enemy positions or reinforcing your guys as needed.

ketch what's that 10 pool build order? do you expand behind it after the initial lings?

10 gas/10 pool/10 first overlord/lings to 14 then queen

at 100 gas get speed and then put the drones back on minerals.

what you do from there is up to you. But I think if you build too many more lings after that then there's really no way its not an all in unless you do a ton of damage.

At our level it works quite well and you can transition out of it. Also I suppose the key thing is that it's not too difficult to do!

I don't know man. It looks pretty complicated to me... there's a lot actions there for: burrow, unburrow hosts AND spores, overlord creep spread, and nydus worm... all on 2 bases vs protoss. I'd rather go a fast 3 hatches and spend those actions on macro. Build roach/hydra then transition to hydra/host with overseers for detection if that's what you want to do. I think at our level it's easier to beat people by just having more stuff then them.

I just like having certain fixed builds to go to every so often, I also sometimes use this same opening but mass muta instead of SH and just spine up. Then take a 3rd as i start harass with the mutas. Just fun stuff.

Speaking of 3 base stuff, I once got BMed by a protoss "fuckin 3 base zerg" as he goes FFE and then proceeds to DT rush me. fun game.

Kerrigan's not high enough level to do this yet, so the best I can do is something like Automated Extractors.

The fact that I'm doing Kaldir first is probably not helping me out much.

What I ended up doing in the save I got the farthest with is that I built spore colonies in front of all the gateways so that I didn't even need to use my army to stop the shuttles. That also meant that I could save gas for my army.

Still couldn't get all the bays, I just got one and almost got the second.

Some decent points about how Protoss plays, they probably needed someone else to try and voice Protoss' points though, since Artosis is more host than part of the discussion.

What difficulty does the achievement require? Even on Brutal I found it fairly easy. The only other piece of advice I can think of is that you don't need to rush to kill the shuttles when they appear. They're slow as hell, so if you are off killing a base somewhere, you don't need to retreat the second you see one. Even if it's right on top of the warp gate, you still have like 10 seconds to kill the shuttle IIRC. Targeting it with all your hydras will destroy it almost instantly.

Let me know what level your Kerrigan is at, and what units/upgrades/evolutions you have at that point, and I'll try to do it tomorrow on brutal. Without actually seeing what's going wrong, my best guess is that you just aren't spreading creep fast enough. It's better to just make 4-5 queens and use them for creep spread like MP, rather than having them with your army. Transfuse hardly heals anything in SP.

I think she's only like level 11, so I've only unlocked the tier with zergling reconstitution, improved overlords, and automated extractors. Zergling evolution is the reward for this mission so I don't have any evolutions. Zerglings, Roaches, and Hydras are the only army units I have to work with.

Sorry for sporadically posting but... I really like un-ranked multiplayer. I took the advise of the people here and just clicked play, and managed to chug out 8 games last night.(1 loss, PvP, bad scouting on my part early on). Refining Hotkey, positional keys and just practicing is so much more fun when I don't need to worry about rank.

PS: Protoss buffs are 100% needed at the highest level of play. What worries me is they want to make protoss more aggressive early on, which will affect lower level play enormously....

You might want to come back and do it with Master Archives. Twin drones > *.

Master Archives only allows you to use the units/upgrades you had at that point in your playthrough.

Yeah unranked ladder is the best.

I should really get back into SC2 with unranked... Hitting masters and instantly going 0-12 or something was really demoralizing and I haven't touched it since the season started.

Yeah that's what I was thinking of doing. A muta ball could probably get it done in a snap. Don't have to worry about killing everything else.

sixghost

Nah, it lets you use the max units/upgrades you could have had at that point in your playthrough.

How does that work? Do they just assume you got all possible Kerrigan levels? That seems like it would get too complicated since you can leave certain planets pretty late on.

I just did it on Brutal, but I had twin drones, since it didn't let me unselect an ability in that tier. Here's my advice:
-Get the automatic gas upgrade for Kerrigan, especially if you wont have twin drones. Kerrigan's starting abilities should be the other two you take (the single unit damage one, and the crushing grip one)
-Upgrades are really important, so start +1 ranged with your first gas, make a 2nd evo and start +1 armor pretty soon after
-The very first thing you do in the mission should be to go kill the units near the hatchery to the right of your base
-You don't need to make units for a while. Make nothing but drones until both bases have 2 drones per mineral patch, maybe a bit more
-I don't know how often you get counter attacked on Hard, but on brutal it was like every 3 minutes. So keep like 10-12 hydras back at your base to defend those.
-Other than that, just use Kerrigan's Q ability to target important units like Colossi and High Templars, since those will crush your hyrdas.
-Attack the top left bay first, since there are two expansions you can take on the way.
-There are always HTs near the bays, you NEED to send Kerrigan in first to snipe them with Q, or your army is going to get wrecked by storm. There are usually 2 in each base.

Make sure you save a lot, in case you miss a counter attack and lose a bunch of time. It was really damn hard, and unless you're already comfortable playing as zerg I could see this being pretty difficult.

Played a Zerg player named "Sixpool."

To his shock, it didn't work.
Classic. Reminds me of the pictures of a game where a terran is named "Marinerush". As the game starts up, his opponent asks "You're going to marine rush me, aren't you?".

Marinerush leaves the game.
