Did another session tonight.. the game is a winner.
Yup. I’d summarize my 20+ hours that it don’t reach the target in some areas but hit it spot on and exceed it in other areas.

In pre-release videos it looked a lot like No Man’s Sky, which caused the bounderies and no space to planet flights drama. But after playing it for a couple days now I’d say that Mass Effect is a more close match. The cities, the quests, the crew, the Constellation group, the roleplaying, surveying planets, the shooting, some spoilery stuff we don’t talk about yet, going between planets, etc. From that perspective it’s doing so many cool things.

Can’t wait to jump in again!

No spoiler pics, just details and textures

Finally hit the point in the main story where you start unlocking (maybe major spoilers? idk) powers. First two powers sucked (low gravity and clean air? wtf?), but the third one I unlocked is literally just Fus Ro Dah lol

Yeah same here.

For all it’s shortcomings it still has that magic to suck you into its world.

I hope people will start to move past all the disproportionate complaining and start enjoying it.
Yeah, it feels like you really need to be going out of your way to complain about some minor flaws as if they were some kind of a huge detriment to the overall enjoyment. These are such unimportant nitpicks compared to how great the overall package is, but I guess that some people just can't help but to be the fun police.

I'm really enjoying this game now, that IGN review was spot on, give it time to get over the inital shock and the game is a classic Bethesda RPG, it's amazing the level of detail.

Was travelling around a system and decided to land on a random moon, came across 'abandoned' drill site, found a slate that started a side mission to find out what happened to the crew on this rig

Am i the only one not overly annoyed by the loading times because at least on my end they are blazing fast? (Not demons remake fast of course)

I would take triple the loading times for gore and better ia...

It's literally two spins of the symbol on my pc on every load. I would say between 3 to 6 seconds at the longest.

I too do not understand the vitriol about this game from some reviewers but I have a hunch why.

I'm getting over the loading screen tbh

I'm just doing the space powers missions atm and biggest gripe is jumping from star system to star system with this clunky ass menu just to get to them.

I went the computer in the lodge which give you surveying quests for constellation and it’s asked me to find a planet in the Procyon B system which has boiled water. So I’ve gone to that system and there’s only planet there and it has no water. So I think I’ve been given a bugged quest. It wouldn’t bother me except it’s be in my quest log now for the rest of my save and it’s gonna irk me everytime I see it

I'm really hating combat. Stiffened up the sensitivity but it's just not good at all. It's at the point now I try avoid any combat at alll.

Yeah, I keep doing little odd clicks and going back and forth. I need my brain to sort this shit out or they could do with tweaking the menus.

The ia on the other hand...

When the enemies sometimes retreat and cover and act "normally" the companions decide that it's their time to shine...

In my last session, less than 3 hours, i had the blonde bitch:

Blocking me against an angle under enemy fire so i died because she basically blocked me and i could not move (for something like 10 sec)
shooting at walls
constantly going into my line of fire even if i started shoting the day before
going berserker with her punches even if she has multiple weapons and ammo (random, then she return using the gun of course)
fucking up my stealth
Doesn't shut the fuck up about my weight limit or picking trash objects, and you thought little shit atreus was annoying? ah ah

I ditched her ass after the main quest and now i have vasco that seems to be less retarded and more efficent, if all the humans companions are like that i'm just gonna use the robot even if it use the full lenght of 5 min to complete a phrase...

It somehow feel worse than companion IA in f4 or even skyrim?

At least i'm happy that sometimes the enemy ia act decently.

New Atlantis is awesome that is all.
Also, is anyone doing the asanine thing reviewers seem to be pushing and just beeline the story to get to new game +.

Different rules for different objects it seems. I tried approaching Deimos (small Mars moon) and you can indeed get closer, but at 9999 m it would just stay at that distance.

This seems promising though. Someone should be able to create a supercruise mod that let's you fly around solar systems at will. Perhaps bringing up the planet map thing automatically if you get too close to prevent clipping...
That’s what am hoping for and to be honest expected when I approached the moon. Did not expect to fly through it 😂

Guess they didn’t expect folk to sit for hours fly towards something.

Edit: spelling

Reviewers were always going to be negatively time pressured against their deadline. It's definitely not the way to play a Bethesda RPG, which are built around wandering and 'forging your own story' rather than mainlining the central story mission.

I think the way combat feels on mouse and keyboard is way better than controller, it’s not CoD or Doom or anything, but it’s alright, on controller however is just.. I don’t know maybe they need to work on the aim assist or something

yeah been thinking about trying it with kb/m. i'll do that next time i play it. i searched to see if the game has auto aim incase i was being stupid and not seeing it but one site said you can just bring up the weapon wheel to slow down time so you can aim better. what the fuck lol. it needs auto aim. i play loads of FPS games but this just feels bad.

The way space works is an aberration regardless of the loading time, those transitions are the biggest flaw of the game by far, from what i have seen.

i don't think i've ever played a game that makes me want to play so many other games instead.

downloaded No Man's Sky again and considering going back to Fallout 4 lol. I know i missed a lot of content in FO4. I always meant to go back to it but never did.

Did anyone notice there are like zero communication devices aside from emails on terminals and radios on ships?

No phones, holo-lenses or pretty much any other method of communication. No wonder the game has you travel all over the galaxy just to talk to people, no one invented a different way to send messages.

i visited Earth and ran about (why no vehicles?) for a while and all i found was some meteorite stuff suggesting earth was hit. i don't know.

it seems it's a desert planet now with fuck all to do. is there any point visiting it?

also went to the moon but it was the same old copy & pasted bases and enemies.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Some of the random activity missions lead you to earth to check out the landmarks. Obviously you don't have to, it's just for extra exp and shit.

Also, re: meteor, if you go to the Vanguard HQ in Atlantis, there's a 'tour' where you basically find out what happened to earth. The ionisphere (??) around earth disappeared, which is probably what burns up most of the smaller asteroids before they enter the atmosphere.

I can only guess its a lot worse on Xbox, but yeah the majority of loading screens for me are like 1-2 seconds, and i'm only using a SATA SSD.
In fact i probably wouldnt of even noticed the loading screens if people werent making such a big thing about them.

Playing on PC and both Xboxes. PC with a 2TB WD 850 and the load times on Xbox aren't much slower.

Absolutely not, lol.

I'm not depriving myself of the universe building just because of the possibility that something cool might happen in NG+ and I have to play all of this again anyway.

I'm really hating combat. Stiffened up the sensitivity but it's just not good at all. It's at the point now I try avoid any combat at alll.

NGL, I actually quite like the combat. Wonky enemy AI now and then aside, I wasn't expecting the combat to be as punchy and weighty as it is.

I'm getting over the loading screen tbh

The menu could be a little easier to navigate that is for sure.

But, I am glad that they let you jump straight to mission points from basically anywhere, rather than making you first go to space and go through all that flight process.

Fuck yeah this was a great tip. Thanks!

For people really early in the game, or getting ready to play soon this is one of the most helpful things you can do. I'd say right after your first mission with Sarah, head to Mars and boost this skill. I learned a lot about the game loop fucking around here, too:

-When you're running around you can have your scanner active and stop to mine and that will kill two birds with one stone by giving you resources and replenishing your O2.
-While in scanner mode you'll see 2 blank hexagon(?) outlines that denote areas of interest. These were geological interests in this case. When you look around the map in scanner mode they'll be the little map marker shaped things with a '?' in them.
-Also you'll see something like "0/4 Resources Discovered". These are planet resources you scan by getting near them and hitting 'A' on the controller. Example would be H20.
-When you discover the locations and scan the resources, the little info box in scanner mode will get border decoration with the Starfield logo/flag/colors.
-While you're sprinting around with 75% max weight to boost the Weight Lifting skill, you'll run into spacers, and pickup little side missions. I met a bounty hunter and we went on a cool adventure.

Boost Pack skill is probably the next thing I'll max.
---
Side note. This game can have really good lighting and visuals. Came back to the ship on foot with Sarah right after finishing the area and leveling weight lifting just as the sun rose on Mars. It was beautiful. She goes, "This was a good trip." I really love this game.❤️

On top of rhat you can sell your completed scans once tou meet someone in the story. win win win.

Well i dont see what the problem is then because it was only last gen when console gamers were spending, 30 secs, sometimes over 1min, just to enter a building in the likes of Fallout 4 lol.

Yes Starfield follows the same Bethesda rpg formula of loading screens to enter buldings and ships etc, but when most of those loading screens are that fast, does it really matter that much?.

I get the feeling the loading isn't really necessary and this is just a holdover trait from using the same but updated engine. Has the exact same door animation used in Skyrim that led to a longer load screen. I don't know that, but every time I enter a building I think of Skyrim even though the "load" is incredibly short. But yeah, it is really a non-issue.

I haven't noticed much of a difference in load times between xss and my PC nvme but if you try to imagine this game on HDD it would give you nightmares. I don't know how you guys dealt with it in Skyrim lol

This games needs SSD speed more than ratchet

It's console warring. Most of the time it's just a spinning circle in the corner. Meanwhile BG3's loading is a lot longer even on console, but you don't hear screaming about that of course.

Its 100% an engine issue. I'm sure we could get at least less loading screens on another engine.
Having said that, and i know certain people want to act like the game looks bad graphically but man some of those interiors look gorgeous and very detailed, so maybe a small loading screen was needed, or at least on this engine anyway.
