Writing can be more than just dialog or "epic moments". There's a lot of lore in the Zelda games and like a few others were saying, NPCs have a lot of dialog themselves.

Out of these, to me Spider-Man 2 was one of the worst written games I've played in a long while. The amount of cringe dialogue, the bizarre story decisions and double standards in some of characters reactions were absolutely awful

I haven't played Starfield that much, but from what I experienced it was standard cringe stuff from Bethesda they did for years

God of War Ragnarok was a very uneven game for me. It had moments where writing was really good, but some of the stuff - especially with core conflict between Kratos and Atreus was handled very poorly

Final Fantasy XVI wasn't really that bad, but it wasn't great either. It had a lot of weaker moments with some bad writing

If I had to pick one, it'd probably be Starfield because some of those 250K lines of dialog are just, well, awful. The way the main quest is paced early on is not good, either, and I'd consider that a part of the writing.

I get that I spoke in strident language. But, I really didn't like the game. I'm not sure why I'm being insulted by this psycho, and why nothing is being done about it.

Oh well. Maybe I'll just ignore him too.

Ya know… I really didn’t like GoW. It jut felt like trying too hard. The whole thing kinda put me off.

The Zelda story sucked. But it always sucks. That’s not what they are going for.

Ffxvi could have been better, but pretty standard fare.

Starfield…. Had its moments of alright. (Horrible first impression).

smh. not having played spidey 2, i just watched the youtube of that fight. i'll go with your opinion that the rest of the game's a solid improvement (actually finding it impossible to imagine it being any worse)...

you're of course correct about these 'writers' (i should've put that in quotes the first time) not being all that experienced/proficient (not to mention, perhaps just a bit lacking in real life experience?)...

having just replayed r&c: rift apart, thinking that maybe i'd originally judged it too harshly, i can say that any of this years 'worst writing' contenders have a hard time topping it. the game is a never-ending barrage of 'thank you.' 'no, thank you' / 'i couldn't've done it without you' 'no, i couldn't've done it without you' / soul-searching, traumatic memories, pandering, pep talks, & enough sticky sweet sentimentality & 'feels' to warrant a trip to the dentist - look, i know the series's been transformed into a kiddie game, beginning with the remake of the first game (in which, among other things, the evil land developer villain is basically usurped by, who else? - dr. nefarious!), but do kiddie game really need to be stuffed with morality/pontification any more than those for adults? maybe a bit here'n'there, okay, fine, but that's not how it works in rift apart. it's relentless, & fundamentally obliterates/replaces all the goofy, dumb, & occasionally questionble, humor of the previous games...

so, yeah, from what you say, spidey 2 is at least an improvement on insomniac's last release...

I didn't play Spider-Man but I did play the other four and of those it's easily Starfield.

Good game but undeniably flawed and the script is one of the biggest problems it has. People just talk endlessly about nothing.

A truly human drama, in which a man learns to be a better father to his son, and to raise him right.

That these people are fucking serious is alarming. No wonder our entertainment is so fucking horrible now.

The only person who's an idiot is one that believes raising a son can't also be something a person can unwind to. Video games can be multiple things. I killed 500 monsters in GOW:R, but also listened to Kratos teach his son how to guide himself away from anger and revenge, because it can be harmful to him going forward in life.

That's greatness in media form. Sorry you can't seem to understand or appreciate that. Sounds like you only like slap-stick comedy too. Sorry George Carlin and Dave Chapelle are too deep for you. :(

And yet the games that went away from Kratos mainly being that both have sold better and on average have been rated better games. So that means something. And I'd like to say here.........I loved all the GOW games from day one. I don't feel the need to pick one side or the other.
